Redeem,

IMO we do have the best WR corp in the league. The problem is that they are not getting the ball to show it. You could take any of the top 5-10 QBs in the league right now and put them behind this line with these plays and they will make the most of those receivers. The problem with Brunell is that he is old, hurt, has a dead arm, and is scared to take risks down field. Trent Green or Kurt Warner are not known for being fleet of foot. Defenses have no respect for our offense because we can't set up the pass with the run and the run with the pass.

It's not about anybody "crying" about being 0-2. It's about expectations and the supposed talent that is on this team and winning. Come on, you are seriously going to tell me that this offense and this team are not that bad? We made a strong run at the end of last season, so we should have some carrying over from that, even if we are learning a new offense. It's a "manhood issue" now because the players still need to execute on offense and defense. That means simple blocking and tackling and beat your man in a one-on-one battle. It ain't happening.

I think you're implying that Gibbs and Saunders do not know what they're doing, and that's fine! From what I've been reading here today there are a lot of really great Redskins' fans that agree with you and some who just think they are

I'm really happy to have Gibbs as the head coach and know that we have a better chance with him than any of the doubters here. Be interesting to hear from these guys when their favorite dish comes out later this year

My bright spot is this thread. Really, wouldn't it be easier to hang yourself than to go on as a Redskins fan? Life really isn't worth living is it? All hope is gone, the team stinks, the coaches stink, Gibbs is too old, Brunell is the stinkiest guy in Stinksville.

Funny, I've been in this thread before. Was it last season? I do believe it was. You manic depressives crack me up, you really do.

Get a grip, take a breath or two, and chill. Let's hope the Redskins players show a little more composure than some of the folks round here over the coming weeks.

Please keep it coming - this really is funny stuff.

In hearing repeated use of the 'he just had a bad game' excuse -- from fans and ex-player analysts alike -- I started to wonder.

Don't you have to have some good games mixed in there in order for the 'bad game' excuse to have any weight whatsoever?

That got me looking. Brunell's last 200-yard game was the playoff loss in Seattle (22-37, 242 yds, 1 TD). In fact, Brunell's last three 200-yard games were all in losses, where it's almost all-pass in catch-up mode against prevent defenses. Some of the 5-in-a-row wins didn't need MB to chuck it all over the field.

But the last time he had 200 in a Redskins win was the 52-17 scrimmage against San Francisco.

Define success. For me, it's the Super Bowl. This team showed last year it had the talent to get into the playoffs, and only lacked a few pieces (which we got in the offseason) to make a SB run. I still think we have that talent, except perhaps for one key player. I'll let you guess which one.

Another good thing about all this is I just read some pieces by various Brunell "haters" and have decided that it's kind of amusing how some of these fair weather fans are reading so much doom and gloom into all this.

I think I'm going to actually enjoy this because it seems that Gibbs is going to keep him in for a little longer so the posts should get more vitriolic the longer this goes on.

fair weather fans

I love how anyone who actually says the "Emporer Has No Clothes" (in saying how much Brunell needs to sit) is labelled a "fair weather fan".

Yet...

None of these people have said they'll stop rooting for the Redskins... and ...

Each has said they want the team to improve...

Somehow I'm not seeing where the term "fair weather" is warranted. Definitions may vary but to my way of thinking it is precisely because they want the Redskins to win that they want Brunell out from behind center.

Bro, it's Brunell's job to shut haters up. Not haters to stop hating.

I want him to be a winner. As a fan, I'm proud to have him be a Redskin from a character standpoint. He's got huge heart. And last year's Dallas win is my all time favorite regular season win - and I've been watching games since 1965!

But he's no longer an NFL starting quality QB and it's painful to watch.

Geez, I thought this year I could finally talk smack around the office. Fooey.

THIS is the best take i've heard on the situation thus far. because, until otherwise proven by boonell, there is no argument for boonell.

Not everyone's a hater. I've heard plenty of Cowboys fans say they really appreciate his performance last night. Eagles and Giants fans are also hoping he remains the starter.

I think I'm going to actually enjoy this because it seems that Gibbs is going to keep him in for a little longer so the posts should get more vitriolic the longer this goes on.

The only point I feel needs addressing is that IMO Gibbs is doing whatever he can with both the players and the coaches to win games. Anyone who advocates anything other than that or who thinks they can question Gibbs intense desire and his ability to find a way to be a winner is not very knowlegeable IMO.

My posts should not be taken as wanting anything but the best for my team. I think that Gibbs will change QBs when he thinks that Campbell gives him the better chance to win - that is how he is!

While I hate to lose I am trying to keep in mind that this season is only 2 weeks old. I was hoping we would win 16 games this year and go to the Super Bowl but not doing that is also a reality and I think that having Gibbs make the decisions on how to have the best chance to win is far more possible than with some of the stupid ideas I have read here in the last 2 weeks. Yes we need to win 10 or 11 games this season but we can only do that 1 game each week.

Anyone who wants to criticize Gibbs is certainly entitled to do that but I can also advocate that while I do not like losing, if the decisions Gibbs makes causes these same critical fans to suffer any discomfort or angst then I'm going to get some small solace from that.

I think a lot of us had our hopes up big time and cannot handle the reality of the present NFL. A lot of friends of mine (at the begining of this year) were trying to convince me that Pittsburgh was the best team this year because they won the Super Bowl last year. Last year means nothing to getting into the playoffs this year and Pittsburgh now knows (as I have been saying for 6 months) that the Bengals, the Colts and the Jaguars are all better than them and the Patriots and Chargers are not far back. That is this year's NFL.

The Jaguars did not beat the Steelers because they had the better QB but because they played better as a team. The Giants did not beat the Eagles because they are a better team they won because the Eagles let them win by not continuing to play together NOT because the Giants are a better team! I will say this again, the Giants are not the best team in our division and despite all their BS luck they will not win the NFC East.

This division is going to be tough and I think that Cambell will be our QB soon but that is because IMO Gibbs will make that decision when he is good and ready. Hopefully also in that time the "haters" will have had a lot of uncomfortable moments.

Cheers

Well spoken, Thaiphoon. I've always enjoyed the idiots who come on here and feel it's their mission in life to rein in all the "fair weather" fans as if they and they alone are permitted to define what it means to be a fan. Passionate fans display their emotions differently. I don't ever see those who like to vent criticizing the "true fans", but they can't wait to attack the rest of us. As for me, I'll deal with losses however I see fit and I could care less who likes it or not.

I'm a long time fan who is just a little frustrated with whoever advocates Gibbs do something because they know that will make the team better!!They might be right, we're all entitled to think that, but, they are implying that Gibbs is not doing this just because of some mis-guided impression (IMO) that he just will not adapt to what is so obvious to "everybody"!

I do not like to be 0 -2 BUT there is a big difference to me in that some of these guys think that we're 0 -2 and are "losers" because of something someone did or did not do! This is a team game and so far we have lost because we did not play well enough as a team not because of a single player (or coach) on either side of the ball for our team!
Gibbs learns from mistakes that he makes and the players make - I have faith that he will make that right and am just frustrated that so many think he is incapable or will not adjust to what he is experiencing.

I hate to see the skins lose too - what does that make me? I'd guess most people here hate to see the skins lose. I think that just makes us fans.

There are such things as good winners and good losers - Some who are loyal fans and others who just seem to want to gripe because they think they are entitled to and not give the coaches or the players the benefit of a little time to get it right. We are only 0 - 2!

My point is that we are not going to win all the games but if we play well as a team and lose then I hope it eats these other guys up because that is what they deserve.

We used to be a pretty sorry NFL team and Gibbs IMO has brought back some respect. Anyone who cannot accept a loss (when we have played well as a team) just because winning is everything to them needs to get a life and do some growing up - this is a game.

We need to start playing better as a team. I think that Gibbs has been trying to get a certain quality of play this year and it has not happened yet. We will be better when it comes together and we execute not make changes and then see if this new way works. You cannot do that at this time. We are who we are for this season - I believe the only thing we need to do is to play better as the coaches have prepared them to and to adapt a little at a time - like a QB change cannot be made unless the other aspects of the game plan are in place for that change to not affect the whole game plan.

It's a little early to scrap this season because some here think that is in our best long term interest.

Brunell is only as high as 57.7 because Dallas had us beatened so badly they played a prevent D against us (with subs) at game's end, letting Brunell complete meaningless passes. Otherwise, his ranking for the game would have been 26 and he would not have surpassed Jake and Chris, both of whom played with much poorer receivers.

We don't hate Brunell. We don't want him in there because he's a very bad QB who's horribly ineffective. We are not pre-judging him nor finding him personally objectiona. We have no bias. If he could play well, which he can't,
we would want him at the helm.
I love my son but wouldn't start him as an NFL QB because he's not good enough. Love and hate have nothing to do with it.
