That's not enough to put a dress on a pig, my friend.
Hahahahaha. Please do not tell a skins fan that Norv Turner is the offensive equivalent to Gregg Williams. I think we know a little bit more on Norv Turner than you guys.

Norv sucks as a head coach but is a vrey good offensive coordinator.

What a laughable statement. Turner is an extremely accomplished co-ordinator (moreso than Williams) that was an awful Head Coach. Gregg Williams had 3 excellent years as a Defensive Co-ordinator with the Titans if memory serves me correctly....and was an awful Head Coach. This makes him superior to Turner...how?

IMO Williams is better because he gets the most out of every defensive player. Norv is a good OC when he has the talent but when he doesn't I feel he struggles. And maybe that is just a difference b/t offense and defense but its how I feel.
Anyway, we are off topic. I like the trade b/c we need another DB and are loaded at WR. Niners need any receiver with a pulse.

Williams has a very small sample size (on a team with quite a bit of talent) in terms of his tenure as a DC. My point was, you shouldn't be laughing at anyone for comparing Turner's abilities as an OC to Williams' as a DC. Turner is more accomplished.
But, like you said, back to the topic. Honestly, I think both Rumph and Jacobs could use a change of scenery. That being said, it's interesting to hear the fans of other team's assess the abilities of your team. I would assert that you probably don't know enough about the Niners' current roster to say that they just need someone with "a pulse". Jacobs is 4th or 5th on the Niner's depth chart. If you guys are looking for a CB/S hybrid that can blitz in nickel situations, Rumph can be successful with you guys. But these two teams traded garbage for garbage.

You too, bro. If Portis' injury isn't too bad, and Brunell can avoid turning the ball over, you guys have assembled a nice team with an unbelievable coaching staff. Tough division though.

Talking about Norv Turner with reverence on a Washington Redskins message board should be grounds for permanent suspension shouldn't it?
Let's get this thread back on topic shall we? Trade... Jacobs for Rumph.
Just start up a Gregg Williams vs Norv Turner thread if you guys want to keep talking about it. Thanks.

Saunders is our OC. QED.

I know that Saunders is your OC, it was an analogy. Saying that Gregg Williams is your DC (and insinuating that Rumph will be significantly better as a result), is the equivalent of me saying that Norv Turner is our OC and insinuating that that will make Jacobs significantly better.

LA9erFan...great post...and all true. Even-handed analysis Hopefully (as a Redskins fan), we got the better end of the deal....and in reality, I hope Jacobs emerges as a star for you.
I would be curious to look at our posts when we picked up Trung Canidate. I bet we were all saying some of the same things. Hopefully, Rumph will be better than Trung "all you need is an arm tackle to take me down" Canidate

You could probably ask that same question regarding every board for every team in the league. Heck, only a couple of weeks ago there were Niner fans just thrilled to death that we picked up Sammy Davis for Rashaun Woods, when in fact that was another swap of underachieving, high draft picks with "potential".
As for Jacobs, I too am hoping he emerges as a star for us (as I am for Rumph as well, he's a good person and very active in the community), but I'm not exactly holding my breath. VERY rarely do talented WR's not show their stripes within their first 3 years in the league. This may be the case with QB's, but if you're going to be a good WR, chances are you're gonna be that before your 4th year.
BTW, thank you for the kind words.

Rumph has a chance to do some specialty coverage work in the Redskins' system. His speciatly is man-to-man, something that defensive coordinator Gregg Williams might be able to use.
A nickle who specializes in man-to man? He might be the best pick up on the Defensive sidee behind Carter (I'm hoping for Archuletta). I think when the season is winding down, after all NFC East teams have beaten up on each other, players like Rumph and Posey will prove to be more adventageous then some of the big name acquisitions in the devision. Depth is everything down the stretch, and this adds depth to two vital poaitions. It proves Gibbs ability to sell the team concept to players. I can not believe how much he has improved our franchise. He is truely in a league of his own.

While I love the addition of Rumph, I don't really think he is a man-man guy.
Today I was watching the 49ers vs. Chicago replay on NFL Network to watch some tape of Rumph, and Chicago's WR Justin Gage (who) juked Rumph's jockstrap off in man-man coverage, completly turning Rumph around in a 180! Then made like a 40 yard RAC...
Nonetheless I love the addition of Rumph and I'm sure he'll play harder/better in a defense with fellow Hurricanes.

He'll play better with better coaches & players around him.

You're absolutely correct about Rumph's struggles in man to man. Even in his best moments, he was never even decent in that aspect. WALT HARRIS is the 49ers #2 CB in terms of man coverage. Think about what that says about Rumph, Redskins fans. Blitz Rumph as much as possible, and you may have a productive player on your hands.

It was an EVEN trade with limited chance for success for each player in either team.
I am not really optimistic about the future of either player. It is a low-level trade. Nothing gained and only potential for -something- to be gained if you believe the staff around both offices. Nothing spectacular either way.
Fortunately, the future of the Skins this season has not changed as a result of this trade.
Unfortunately, the same can be said about the 49ers.
There are other areas of highr need if you ask me. But somebody has already pointed out this fact earlier in the thread.
