As a Caps fan, I'm cheered because I don't see the Rangers, Flyers, or Penguins in the finals.
As a hockey fan, and with apologies to the fine Mr.NC43, I lean a little more toward Edmonton.
I think a Canadian town would appreciate the Cup more than an American town. It's time for some balance.
(And when I'm absolute king of the world, not only will there be only 16 major league baseball teams, with eight to a league, and no DH, but Phoenix and Denver send their NHL teams back home. Oh, and I dissolve the hockey teams in Florida and Tennessee, and rearrange the Stars / North Stars.)

And how about making sure the Capitals go back to red, white and blue uniforms.
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

Why would it be embarassing? It's not embarassing to Canada, though it may be to the NHL. Just because they play in the US doesn't change the fact that 60% of the players are Canadian (league average - don't know specifically about Carolina).
What I think is kind of embarassing is that my local radio station called a bar in Durham, NC and they didn't even know who the Hurricanes were... let alone that they were in the Stanley Cup Finals...
I've said for a long time that this Carolina team was built to win the cup this year and they only got better after the trade deadline.
Edmonton has done well to get there, but won't be at all satisfied with doing so. I'm cheering for the Oilers but I'd probably place my bets on the opposite side of the ledger... especially now that Roloson is done.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

Canadian/Snadia its all the same to me. I grew up in NC and I'm sure I'm not the first person to say that there are some people there that don't have a clue whats going on. And coming from and NC State fan, your Radio Station called a bar where UNC is at and all they care about are themselves. That is that see to be seen crowd. Anyways, its nice b/c I've started watching hockey just because a team from NC was in it and found that I really enjoy it. My wife watched also and thats a shock. Really.

Raleigh is a smaller market, but the Hurricane fans are multiplying - helps when you win. This is still very big ACC Country with NCSU, UNC, WF and Duke and that will always be so, but this time of year is great for Hockey. I personally have loved it and haven't missed a game all playoffs.
Another sad note - riding back to Raleigh from Charlotte and couldn't get the game on the radio til I was in range of a local station. Sad - thought all through NC I could pick it up.
As far as where the players are from - doesn't matter to me one bit as long as we win. It makes sense that more players come from a cold climate - not much pond hockey here in the south.

Can anybody please remind me where is that fantastic young goalie Ward from?BossHog wrote:Incidentally... Carolina has 11 Canadian players... certainly less than 60% but still a healthy contingent.
I seem to forget...

Come on guys, there is A LOT of good hockey yet to be played in this series. The oilers have to go through Ward but that is the only thing between them and Mr. Stanley (injuries or not).

Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

I think I heard he was from Edmondton, but I know he was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
