This whole article makes me sick. The only thing I will say is name another player that had his heart and soul so intensely planted with the Redskins? Do you guys forget a couple of years ago when the redskins were stinking up the place and on their trip back home after a loss people were joking around. Lavar got up and gave them all a lashing for not taking this all more serious and to allow such levity. Sure he has had some injuries but he is a beast and I don’t care if he freelances….funny how he can find the tackle.

Just saw the local news and Gibbs came off very pi&%ed at Arrington. Joe is usually plain vanilla before a game and this time he was livid about Arrington diverting attention from the Philly game.

Wondering if Arrington will get the T.O. treatment?

Did it specify wether he was pissed about the article in which Arrington didn't expect to be a skin next year or the one where he seemed overconfident in where the skins stand for the playoffs?

No doubt at all that Gibbs was referring to Arrington not being a Skin next year, and Arrington's remarks about how the team has treated him and several former players, e.g., Stephen Davis and Champ.

This is just what we don't need at a time like this. Hopefully both sides will talk this out before Sunday.

Gibbs has no place for Arrington distraction

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Washington Redskins coach Joe Gibbs reacted sharply Wednesday after LaVar Arrington discussed his expected departure from the team.

Arrington told The Washington Times he expects the Redskins to try to trade him or cut him in the coming months because of his high salary. If that happens, the three-time Pro Bowl linebacker said he might retire.

"It's not a given that I'll continue playing if the Redskins get rid of me," Arrington told the newspaper. "I don't really want to play for anyone else. I don't feel bad about it. I've had my time. I'm capable of doing other things besides football."

Asked for his reaction, Gibbs said he had not read Arrington's comments, but he took exception to anything that might distract the team ahead of Sunday's game at Philadelphia. The Redskins will clinch their first playoff berth since 1999 if they beat the Eagles.

"Right now, for anybody in this organization -- I would hope in the entire town -- to be focused on anything other than Philly would be ridiculous," Gibbs said. "We're getting ready to play the most important game that a lot of our players will play. ... If we lose the game, we're not going anywhere. So my mind-set is on one thing, Philadelphia. That's the way I feel about it."

Arrington missed most of last season with a knee injury and was used sparingly early this year as he worked back into shape. He regained his starting job Nov. 6 against Philadelphia, but has usually been replaced by Chris Clemons on passing downs. Arrington missed two games earlier this month with a bruised thigh, but returned for last week's game against the Giants. He doesn't have a sack, interception or fumble recovery this season.

"At some point during that six-game drought when I wasn't playing much, I lost my mojo," Arrington told the Times. "I accepted being on the bench for the good of the team. But I shouldn't have. I was like, 'Is this the way my career is going to end?"'

Arrington declined interview requests after Wednesday's practice.

Although his talent is considered boundless, Arrington has often been criticized for being a freelancer on the field. Former teammate Jeremiah Trotter, now with the Eagles, reinforced that reputation Wednesday in a conference call with Washington reporters.

"I always said -- even when I played there -- if we could ever get this guy to play within the scheme, study, and be a professional, he probably could be the most dangerous player in the league," Trotter said.

Arrington told the Times that Penn State coach Joe Paterno was responsible for the freelancer tag.

"Joe Paterno started the whole thing of me being a freelancer and it has continued through my whole career unwarranted," Arrington said. "I've been called a freelancer doing what I was asked to do. If I ran into any gap I wanted, how long would you keep me in the game? (Former defensive coordinator) Marvin Lewis said, 'LaVar ran around like a chicken with his head cut off until I got here.' But I made a Pro Bowl before he got here."

Arrington also said a long-running contract dispute over a signing bonus derailed his relationship with Redskins management.

"Obviously, using me sparingly or not at all is a very clear message," Arrington said. "I'm not wanted here. I believe in my heart that the Redskins faithful love me as Ravens fans love Ray Lewis or Packers fans love Brett Favre. Some individuals hate it that there are more of my jerseys in the stands than anyone else's."

LaVar has my favorite player since he was drafted. He was a LB full of playmaking potential, and untapped talent. Has he gotten a raw deal in DC? Maybe, too bad for him he just can't let sleeping dogs lay. He has sealed his fate with the Skins. Cry me a river Mr. $68 million.

With that said, Gibbs will have the team very, very focused this Sunday, so I don't see a damaging distraction.

I have consistantly been the staunchest LA suporter, and i still love how he is passionate about the fans. But this latest tirade is freaking ridiculous! What is he thinking! In the past Hes always talked about being a leader and how bad he just wants to win and go to the playoffs, and now as soon as we have a sniff, he is deflecting the focus onto himself. Does anyone know what brought on these latest comments from him? I know the media is not to be trusted, but when did he make all these comments? Unbelievable! I know we cant just cut him, but i have a very strong feeling he and the redskins try to part ways. And at this point i think its probably a great idea. Incredible!

If you read the article closely, it sounds like Lavar granted a recent interview at his house in Annapolis (note the use of "this house" and "this far" as well as the descriptions of the interior):

"That feeling of separation from the Redskins coincided with Arrington's move in February of last year to Annapolis and this house that sits on the lip of a creek that leads to the Chesapeake Bay.

"Arrington lives so far from Redskin Park that he usually stays at a rental property in Virginia during the season rather than commute home to his version of paradise, with its adult playrooms full of autographed NFL helmets and NBA sneakers, suits of armor, Spider-Man statues, a koi-filled indoor pond and plenty of Arrington memorabilia.

There also is an all-pink baby room: Arrington and his wife, Trishia, are awaiting the birth of their first child, Marlee, around Jan. 15. Keeno, Arrington's 5-year-old son from a prior relationship, is a frequent visitor.

"I didn't plan to move this far from Redskin Park," Arrington says. "I looked all over Virginia and Maryland for this type of setup. But I wanted to be near the water."

This whole thing stinks, I heard he's having an interview to correct this sitation.

He's becoming just like Mike Jackson. He keeps trying to make things better by being in the public eye but he keeps on making it worse. The likeness ends there!

He isn't saying anything about leaving, he says if the Skins get rid of him. Big difference between the two. He talks about getting into the playoffs and getting a ring. Were both of these statements made during the same interview?

Earlier this season I ripped Lavar on this board, even naming my thread: Lavar Arrington is a coward...and all of you bashed me for it, this article shows you that I was right and that this guys true colors are yellow, no gold or burgandy, just yellow, don't take my words for it, take his. His SELFISHNESS is evident when he says at this crucial point in our season quote "I'm not wanted here" like a spoiled little brat, the icing on the COWARD cake is him saying he might not even play football anymore!(why so he can go smoke his heart out listening to his fav artist bob marley, who by the way had more soul in his pinky finger than this guys got in his whole body) what a jackass (can I say jackass? I know Gibbs can and probably will as he cuts the soon to be former Redskin LB)...is it any wonder Gregg Williams didn't start this no heart, no class, overpaid, selfish little crybaby, Williams only wants guys with HEART, lavar pays more attention to how many of his jerseys are in the stands and who's being "promoted" by the team than the buisness at hand PHILLY.
