Hopefully this post doesn't raise the ire of the thought police, but it's the way I see this team right now....

I don't know if i'm the thought police or not but I must say you put some thought into your post.
You keep wondering if what you are saying in proper or not. It doesn't matter it's your opinion and you have a right to it. Unlike quite a few who post here when you state your opinion you normally give some background on how you form that opinion. This give a bases for a discussion, which is all we ask. You seem rational and took your time to get your point across. Most of which I think we can all agree with.

The problem is when someone have the same opinion has you but all the come up with is....

As far as the holes you point out.

1) We didn't need a Speed DE last year and I thing the spot was kind of overlooked last off-season. A lot of faith was put into Phillip Daniels also. This must be address sooner than later.

2) We will need another Coner soon Harris has been disappointing at times but serviceable. Springs has missed time and Ade isn't the answer. Rogers will be the future on one side but we will need to cover the other side also.

3) I don't see Campbell playing this year at all, I don't see us out of the playoff hunt either so that might have something to do with that

4) First we blamed Portis style of running then we blamed the blocking scheme, truth is our O-line is underperforming for the second year in a row. Jansen has been play hurt so has Samuels but oretty much everyone in the NFL plays hurt. At least Dockery is consistant, if only it wasn't for holding we could build off of it.

Hopefully your post will inspire others to follow your lead and handle a lost in the same manner that they'd handle a win.

I just don't get that at all - aside from the beating we gave SF, we've won by margins of 2, 1, 3, and 7. There hasn't been more than 1-2 games where both the offense and the defense have both decided to show up. Sure, the 'skins have shown flashes of brilliance, but they've also shown some pathetic mistakes. It's nice to have luck on your side, but you can't always be depending on it.

Look at both side of the coin the games we lost not including the Gints were by 2,7,1,and today by 3 so we are in every game and that gives some people hope.

thanks for the response...i hear what you're saying, and hopefully others on both sides of the debate here it as well....

i think you're right about why we didn't address the d-end hole...it's a little surprising, but the guys that dale lindsey and greg blanche were so excited about out of chicago (holdman, harris, and daniels), have been some of the most disappointing skins this year...luckily, lavar has apparently solved the holdman problem, but the other two are issues.

as for the 2nd corner, i personally don't really see the playoff hunt, but even if it is possible, i'm not as into it as i am into team development...let me explain:

i've seen something i like to call the "rams phenomenon," which basically means a really mediocre team squeaks into the playoffs year after year (hence the rams), and so, falls into a false sense of security...look at how long it's taken for mike martz (or brian billick for that matter) to get on the hotseat...so, i think the playoffs for this skins team are more of an illusionary goal then anything...while i recognize that for skins fans, the playoffs would be great (and you better believe i would go nuts watching) what i really want to be able to say is that "you know what, next year, we're going to blow some people out." i think we can be there, but not with walt harris playing...so, just like the brunell-campbell controversy, i think carlos rogers needs to be out there...he's already demonstrated he's a better tackler than walt harris (he really only had to make 1 to do that, but hey), and i think his coverage skills need to be refined by game time...now, listen, if that happens, he's going to get burnt...once, twice, maybe 5 times...but you know what, it won't happen next year....

as for portis, i agree he's had some problems...i don't know why he skips on the field as much as he does, or where his elusiveness has gone...however, i can't help but think that if we built a line for him like the broncos line, we would see a 1500 yd back pretty quickly...

i agree, i don't think the offense and defense have come together very often at all, and sometimes neither showed up (the giants game for one). i think that's one of the problems...the difference however, or the reason i am optimistic is that the skins are actually in games with decent teams...look at the broncos game...we played alright, but not great, and lost by 2...

even more importantly, as you said, "the talent is there to be better than this." i agree, and the coaching is there to be better than it is...but both of those things are remarkably better than they were last year, and there's no reason to think it can't continue that trend....the point is that the process looks healthier than it did when dan snyder overpaid dramatically for bruce smith or primetime....

on a side note, does anyone know what's going on with nemo? i'd like to see him out there if he's healthy...and i'm glad to see that robert mccune was brought back up to play special teams...i still think that he will be the starting middle linebacker for the #1 defense in the league in a year or 2....

Half this site has been screamimg DE -DE -DE for the last two years but when you get a Sean Taylor and your Teem ranks in the top 5 you tend to forget about that need that hadn't been addressed.

Harris had played better than expected last year and now he's on the flip side of that and not playing up to par this year. Rogers is ready now but will Springs be able to cover the other side for a full season next year is my question.

I'm not sure what the isuse with the run game is but I hope we get it fixed soon.

I think we will pick uo a DE in the off season.
All of these guys are in the last year of there contract and could hit the market at seasons end.

Ok, yeah, i just noticed that you were talking about the other side of the secondary...shawn springs' health is a question, and if we trot harris and rogers out there, that might really be a problem...i wouldn't mind seeing the skins pick up lenny walls to at least add some competition...nate clemets is a free agent next year, and would fit in very well (played under g. williams, etc), but i think he's going to be a little pricey...so, that really leaves us with either a low price free agent (i'd love to see that list) or draft a rookie with our very limited picks (which would be unfortunate)...

looking at that list of ends, i think howard from the saints and abraham really stand out (though vanden bosch is in the top 5 in sacks i think)...freeney is out of the question i think...the colts will make it work...

still, i think that finding the end we want in the draft won't be an issue if we concentrate on that position...some people have floated darryl tapp, but i think he'll be gone by then...i think one of the nc state ends (lawson or williams) may be realistic and solid...

however, i think the biggest question will be with the proposed increase in the salary cap (i believe 10-15 mil?), how much money will the skins have to play with? i read an article indicating that our cap woes are not as bad as anticipated (which makes it essential to keep lavar i think), so maybe we can make plays at reasonably priced free agents, perhaps making a splash by landing abraham....

I do not take insult with what has been written against me in this thread. It waa an emotional and painful loss and it is natural that we all feel pretty strongly about a few issues.

The after-game interview by Joe was as telling as the interview in the locker room to him and a few players. I share in their and our collective pain.

I am not interested to discuss the off-season moves now. We will do that then. But I am -VERY- interested to discuss our WR moves now that Thrash is most probably done for the season.

The Skins have the ability and talent to play with ANYBODY in the NFL. We've been through years where we had to pray for gusts of wind and heavy rain with voodoo dolls and binge drinking... we're not a bad team anymore. It's tough to be patient after 12 years of this crap - but if any group of fans can do it.. count me in. We can still pull it together. The G-men, the Boyz... c'mon they're not world beaters. Season over? Last I checked, the season wasn't over until the last play of the Superbowl, and we're not out of anything yet. It's gotten more difficult with the last few games, but it's not impossible to make a realistic run at the division title and make the playoffs. I don't see us going far into the playoffs if we make them this season, but don't count us out! And if that makes me a "burgundy & gold glasses wearing homer", then so be it!
