I said it before: this is a tough game. The Bears defense was, is, and will be tough.

If the Bears OL has improved, then their rookie QB will be able to do some things.

This is not a romp-away win.

Just about as I expected. Bears have no offense, but you gotta admit that their defense looked good. Congratulations to the Redskins and their fans.

I agree except for one thing VARon, do you believe that was a clean hit that took out our QB? Honestly??

That was atleast a 3 point swing. We also ran pretty well after we wore down the bears D.

Way to many penalties and that is a bad mark of Lovie's teams to date. He has to buckle down. Our O line was sub par as I thought they would be. It didn't help against your D.

Orton looked good. He'll be a good QB for you guys. I think he did as well as you would expect any first round QB to do in his first start (on an openning day away game at that), so he was definitely a steal in the draft.

Your defense looked good, but we found a way to run all over you in the second half. What you'll have to wait to find out is if that was just first-game fatigue, or if that is a hole in the defensive scheme.

Well, I certainly would not have been surprised to have seen a penalty called on the play that injured Ramsey.

That said, I don't think it was intentional. Had it been Brett Farve on the receiving end, I might suspect it was, but Ramsey is not the Bears nemesis that Farve has been, and honestly, if you wanted to injure someone in order to cripple the Redskins, would it be Ramsey? Briggs hasn't a reputation for cheap shots, either.

It was too soon to tell about Orton before yesterday, and it is still too soon to tell. Certainly, many all-pro quarterbacks have done about as well in their first game, but so too did another Bears *cough* Krenzel *cough* quarterback. The real test is whether he improves with experience.

The observation about penalties is well taken. Since Smith became coach the Bears have committed many foolish penalties. For the benefit of Redskins fans, I mean foolish penalties like jumping offsides over and over again, not foolish penalities like Briggs *tackle* of Ramsey.

As for our defense and your running game... I was listening on the radio and sometime near the end of the third quarter, they gave the time of possession. At that moment, the Bears defense had already spent more than 29 minutes on the field. If you'd frozen the defensive stats at 30 minutes of playing time, the Bears D would look much better. The biggest problem with the D is that the O can't keep them off the field.
