He hasn't lived up to his "Mr Redskin" potential.
Calling our coaching staff liars doesn't fit well with that title.

Here's a new spin on this whole mess.
1. The NFLPA canceled Arrington's hearing at the players request.
My Take: LA knew he couldn't win this so he backed out, but didn't cut and run.
2. Lavar fired a high powered group of lawyers and hired one.
My Take: His attorney's were telling him the same thing that the league mouthpeices were saying. So he needed a new plan.
3. Lavar and his new Suit wants to have a sit down with "the Danny".
My Take: LA needs to save face
That's where this mess is and that's my take on it.
How would I like it to end

This is how it should end

There are probally cap ramifications that I haven't considered, but here's what I would like to see.
1. Lavar needs to dump and sue the Postons.
2. "the Danny" agrees to redo Lavar's contract where in the end Lavar gats a fair deal considering ALL that has transpired.

And as long as #1 precedes #2, 1niksder, then the only real losers in the situation would be the Postons, who are to blame anyway.
It sounds too good to be realistic, but it would be nice. . .

Fair deal?!!!!!!!!???? For what? Running his mouth?? Causing the Redskins turmoil? Getting injured then having the unmitigated gall to blame the Redskins for rushing his slap self back?
Surely you jest.

MENTAL NOTE -- Things to Do: a) Change text color in my posts from now on.
b) Thank SkinzDomin8 for ruining it for those of us who originally rocked the yellow text with all his constant Skins-bashing.
You've been yellow since you've been here(Didn't mean it the way it came out"

). You use to hate on LA almost as much as Brainiac. You changed for reasons I've yet to discover. However you not posting in yellow because of SD8 would be a travashamockery, and we that joined the week that you did won't stand for it.
Here we go again....
SKINZ_DOMIN8 wrote:Wow. What a "True/Core Redskin" this piece of garbage is.
Where are all his defenders now? Do any of you realize that his proposed new arbitrated contract would basically squash the Redskins cap situation yet you let this piece of garbage run amuck on the team?
How do you do it

... You seem to know the outcome of ever issue that is Redskin related, Regardless of the facts.
But we know you don't care about facts, because YOU KNOW...
The FACT that the arbitration has been canceled and not reshceduled by any reports didn't matter you have stated the outcome.
The FACT that it
would have been arbitration Lavar more than likely would not have gotten the full $6.5M that is in dispute (definately could not come out with more). So any out come would have been planned for(worst case 1st). Again your post shows a lack of knowledge on the subject at hand.
SKINZ_DOMIN8 wrote:I am now more firmly entrenched in my beliefs that Arrington is all mouth and I find it hillarious how all he needs to do is say stupid asinine things like: "I love these guys" (supposedly referring to his team-mates) and shedding a few crocodile tears.
At first it was surprising to me the number of people that believed Mr. Mouth Arrington and paraded him like he was some Redskins Icon when in fact he hasn't done ANYTHING except get injured, run his stupid mouth, complain about his contract, get someone shot at a party, etc......
Man did you leave the door open here, but I'm not going though it (wrong Forum) so I'll just say your entrenched beliefs either stem from a "what have you done for me lately" background or it's due to a short attention span, and I'll leave it at that, but betting the latter.
SKINZ_DOMIN8 wrote:Now I just laugh at all of his defenders like the lemmings they are. If it were up to me he'd be shipped to Arizona or San Francisco (Don't be surprised if that happens).
He is an eyesore on this team. Definitely NOT a TRUE/CORE Redskin.
Based on what you've contributed to the boards I really can't picture you laughing or being happy about anything. So I'll go ahead and piss on your parade. LA lost most of his base support after his last blow up. This was the blow up where he lost a lot of the
core redskin fans that had never left his camp, The bandwagonders that were only onboard because they follewed Lavar, and those that had just crept back into his camp after his late season return.
Re-read most of the post about Arrington, most aren't defending LA the are defending his previous performances that you don't quite remember.
I'm a Redskin Fan + Lavar Arrington wears the B&G = I support Lavar
That being said He missed most of last season (and was payed hansomely - also so has a nice piece of coin coming THIS year) but the defense thrived. Even if he comes back healthy, the baggage of a arbitration hearing versus the front office would have negative effects on the team. I was thinking this might work out to be a good thing. according to you I'm wrong

Well, even though you haven't always been the yellow-text man, I'm still with 1niksder on this (and I've got a right to chip in here since I happened to join that same week too). In all honesty, Red, the teal is making me want to

, at the very least you could go back to that orange/red color that didn't clash with the background.
But hey, do whatever you feel like. . .

IMO, he's produced GOOD but no where near GREAT numbers. Especially with the extra large contract he received. I like Lavar but I'm just saying it's time to bring his game to the next level with consistent great play. Sure, he's had a few great plays (Aikmen) that make the highlight reels but he also gets out of position and gives up a big play with his freelancing style. I think Williams can only help him so I hope that Lavar can listen to his coaches and play within the scheme. I'll take team play over one potentially great freelancer any day of the week.

He is the original Mr. "Can't get right." I agree that until he stops missing tackles he won't be considered anything more than another name on this team.

I'm not too sure, but I imagine he would see typical playing time (for a starter) during the preseason, which would likely be a quarter or so. I think they have said he should be fully set to begin the regular season. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Arrington Case Settled

Redskins, Arrington Settle Grievance
Compensation Unlikely for Star
By Jason La Canfora
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, July 30, 2005; Page E01
Lawyers and representatives from the Washington Redskins met with linebacker LaVar Arrington this week to settle his lingering financial grievance with the team, NFL sources said. The meeting was held after Arrington opted out of an arbitration hearing earlier this month.
Two league sources with knowledge of the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Arrington's new lawyer, Steve Brown, as well as officials from the NFL Players Association including NFLPA Executive Director Gene Upshaw visited Redskins Park in Ashburn on Wednesday, at which time the matter was resolved.
Karl Swanson, a spokesman for Redskins owner Dan Snyder, said he was unable to reach him for comment yesterday. Snyder is on vacation in Colorado. Vinny Cerrato, the team's vice president of football operations, did not return a call seeking comment. Coach and team president Joe Gibbs was contacted through a team spokesman but did not comment.
Brown, who spoke openly earlier this month about Arrington's desire to mend relations with the club and reach a "win-win" solution to the grievance, has not returned repeated phone calls this week. A message left with the NFLPA was not returned.
Arrington contended that the Redskins failed to include a $6.5 million bonus in the eight-year, $68 million contract he signed with the team in December 2003. After a year of delays the case was scheduled to be heard July 18. Arrington met with Upshaw a few days before that date and decided to forgo arbitration, because, as Brown later stated, "It's not a matter that [should be] litigated where one party is making allegations in a semi-public forum against other parties with a third party [arbitrator] involved."
Arrington missed virtually all of the 2004 season because of knee problems and twice underwent surgery to remedy the injury. During the offseason he criticized coaches and trainers for their handling of his knee injury after the team failed to announce that he had undergone a second surgical procedure. He was unable to participate in mini-camp this spring and he might not be cleared to participate in contact drills when training camp begins Monday morning.
Brown said previously that Arrington wanted the grievance settled before the start of training camp, but with Gibbs and Snyder on vacation, it was difficult to get all of them together. The reason for the meeting Wednesday was as much to solve the financial matter as it was to repair a strained relationship between the player and the team, according to Brown.
"LaVar recognizes that it's to everybody's benefit to restore this relationship," Brown said during an interview 10 days ago. "And he's the one reaching out to the team to restore that relationship."
The Redskins reacted immediately to Arrington's request to postpone the arbitration date. Director of football administration Eric Schaffer, the team's primary negotiator, issued a statement saying, "While we agreed to the postponement I think it is very important to finalize through arbitration that the Redskins did nothing wrong to our highest-paid player. I also feel strongly that the business ethics of the agent should be questioned and looked into."
Schaffer did not return a call seeking comment on the meeting with Arrington, and Arrington's agent, Carl Poston, has not returned numerous phone calls on the matter.
Redskins Notes: The Redskins are still trying to sign first-round picks Carlos Rogers and Jason Campbell before the start of training camp, and will work all weekend to attempt to do so. "We're exchanging ideas and having conversations, but nothing is imminent at this time," said Campbell's agent Joel Segal, adding that they still have "plenty of time" to get a deal in place by Monday. . . . The Redskins signed safety Omar Stoutmire yesterday and released offensive lineman Ben Nowland. Stoutimre spent five seasons with the New York Giants but missed all but one game last season due to a knee injury. He has started 51 NFL games over eight seasons.

Good to hear this thing finally got straightened out, and I hope we can sign Rogers and Campbell before training camp. I can't stand holdouts!

Since neither Arrington or the Redskin's management is making comments on this I hope it did end in a "win, win". I have a feeling though that it didn't.

I think it ended in a win win. I think the Redskins told Lavar, that he is getting what he signed and that's it. Lavar himself said last year that he was going to drop the case because he missed the season and he figured it was square anyway. I think his lawyer(what? his 3rd one?) told him he had no case and that if the Redskins didn't budge, then there was nothing Lavar could do. I think Lavar realized that the Redskins were NOT going to budge and that the only way for Lavar to save face was to accept his contract and for the media to get a no comment response from anyone that matters on the team.
I think(hope I'm right) that Lavar finally realized that he needs the Redskins a whole lot more than they need him and that with Gibbs in charge, things are different now. Shape up as they say...

WIN-WIN situations always end with a press conference. There was no press conference....and there was no comment. Therefore, this is no win win situation. Lavar has lost his rediculous claim because he was finally able to be told by somebody OTHER than his agent that a signed contract is a LEGAL document.
Apparently Lavar was under the impression that since he is a star and use to getting his way, just saying he didn't like his "signed" contract would immediately make everybody jump. Guess what, nobody was jumping and Lavar got mad. Tough.
Let him sue his idiot agents for change.

And suing the Poston bros is exactly what he should have done from the start and should still do. How the Redskins got involved in this thing from the start still baffles me...

And by the way if I could choose any outside linebacker in the league....it wouldn't be Lavar!
