i hate to bring this up, but wouldn't anyone rather see us bolstering our offense a little more rather than the defense at this point?

our offense sucked in 2004. it was cover-your-eyes awful. the defense was probably the best in the league when you consider how much slack it had to pick up from the offense. don't get me wrong, it's great to be acquiring all this depth for the defense... but we have precious little cap room and if there are going to be any more additions/depth shouldn't it be on the offense?

we'd have to wait until the June 1st cuts happen to see if we could get some guys on Offense. McQuarters would be good for KR/PR and some 3rd or 4th CB duties with our last remaing roster spot. After we cut some players, get more spots, and more money, we should be able to get some offensive help provided the right talent is made availible.

From ESPN...

• The Washington Redskins have a need for a No. 4 cornerback, and might soon require a punt return specialist if they release Chad Morton as a salary cap casualty, so the club will stay in contact with veteran defensive back R.W. McQuarters, who was released by the Chicago Bears earlier this week. But word is that Redskins officials weren't thrilled when McQuarters arrived for his visit with a two-man entourage tagging along.

McQuarters, whose résumé includes 58 starts in seven NFL seasons, and who has played virtually every position in the secondary and on special teams, will continue to explore his options. He might visit with the New York Giants, and all three Florida franchises have indicated an interest in meeting with him, as well. The former San Francisco first-rounder has 10 career interceptions and 52 passes defensed. He has averaged 9.4 yards, and scored three times, on punt returns and has a 21.2-yard average on kickoff returns. McQuarters' career has been marked by inconsistency but, in a league where teams always need cornerbacks, he will find a home soon enough.

Redskins Still Interested In McQuarters
By Gary Fitzgerald

June 7, 2005

The Redskins are keeping tabs on the status of R.W. McQuarters, head coach Joe Gibbs said on Tuesday, and the team remains in the running to sign the free agent defensive back.
Team officials have talked to McQuarters "off and on" since May 26 when the seven-year veteran visited Redskins Park, Gibbs said. McQuarters is expcted to make a decision on his next destination in the next few days.

"He's considering several options right now," Gibbs said. "We've told him what we think we can do. We'll just have to wait now. He had talked about making a decision the first three or four days of this week."

Gibbs said the team has no immediate plans to bring in any other prospective free agents for workouts.

In recent weeks, the Redskins have sought to upgrade their secondary. On May 24, the team signed veteran defensive back Cory Hall, formerly with Atlanta. But Hall abruptly retired from the NFL two days later.

The Redskins shifted focus to McQuarters the same day that Hall left the team. McQuarters was released by the Chicago Bears, his former team, on May 23.

"For us, if there's somebody out there of interest at any spot, we'll look at them," Gibbs said. "We wouldn't rule anything out at any spot. If somebody comes up out there who we think would upgrade a position, we would look at him seriously. And we have looked at safeties."

McQuarters' versatility appeals to Gibbs and the coaching staff. Although he has played mostly cornerback in his career, he also has experience at the safety position.

McQuarters, 5-10 and 195 pounds, was a first-round draft choice (28th overall) of the San Francisco 49ers in the 1998 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Bears prior to the 2000 season and played under current Redskins coaches Greg Blache and Dale Lindsey in Chicago.

McQuarters has appeared in 99 games with 58 starts and recorded 386 tackles (288 solo), 10 interceptions and two sacks. Last season, he started 14 of 16 games and amassed 80 tackles, two interceptions and eight pass deflections. McQuarters also excelled as the Bears' primary punt return specialist last season, running back 44 punts for 435 yards and one touchdown.

^^ take reports from little unknown sources with a grain of salt. a lot of times they write something like that even if its just a prediction so in case the person really signs with them they can say they were the first to report the news.

Antonio Brown is just OK?? Come on man just because he hasnt been on the team that long doesn;t mean anything. HE has potential, and remember we still have Ladell and Thrash returning, Thrash is a smart veteran who makes the right decision

Huh? We have Springs, Carlos Rogers and Walt Harris... why do we NEED a db? many teams would love to have 3 capable starters in their stable. We have Wilds and Rufus Brown behind them who both showed signs of promise last year.

Oh and we have Ade jimoh too... we need him in case.... er... well... what if... er... Ok... I have no rationale for Ade.

Anyway, I think McQuarters would fit in as about the #4 guy and would likely be an upgrade over Wilds and Brown at this point... I do think the combination of him filling that 4th spot and putting in ST duties would make him a valuable pick-up, but for depth and ST, not neccessarily as a 'need'.

My 2 cents

I was talking about him playing saftey. I thought he played saftey too???
I don't really know a lot about him but I thought I heard something about him being a versatile player and being able to play three positions..?...
