I want him to be in camp tomorrow!! He needs to start sticking with the program. We ONLY have 3 months until pre-season!!!! :)

What name! The guy is a #3 receiver, or at least that is how he has played so far in the NFL. He is a lot of flash with out much cash. His time in the NFL has been less productive than Gardner's has! We are ready to run Gardner out of town, but give a guy that has produced less than him $11 million in bonus money ](*,)

This is proof thst even Gibbs hasn't reighned in Snyder. So much for being 1.5 million under the cap. With our rookie pool allocation at over $4 million we are going to have to cut Gardner, Barrow, and a couple more after june 1 just to be able to sign the rookies!

The team is going to regret this deal almost (maybe more) than the Brunnel deal!

I'm going to let you re-collect your thoughts and post when you are a little less tense.

What are you talking about? You don't think he's a #1 WR? Then why the hell did we get him then? JGibbs believes he's the deep threat, and I of all believe him.
The only mistake JGibbs made was his first one, Brunell. After that....I don't think he's made another fatal mistake as that one. There's no way getting Moss was as bad as getting Brunell....actually no where close.
You're comparing Moss to Gardner? What are you on, crack? Have you noticed the speed difference and their stats over their NFL careers? I'm no Einstein but I think it's pretty clear that SMoss is by far a better WR than Gardner.

Again, re-collect your thoughts and then fix your post. It's okay...it happens to the best of us. :)

It is rather unfortunate that Hasselbeck was released, he sucked but i still love him.

Why? $13 million and a 1st round draft pick only got us 2 injury riddled years from Coles! I wounder how many injury riddled years it will get us from Moss befor he is either cut or traded!
This deal does not help the team at all!

OK, I have thought about it and not Moss is FAR FROM A #1 WR and I have no Idea why they wanted him! Yes he is a deap threat. His yards per catch is his only carrer sat that Moss exceeds Gardner's 16.0 to 13.2, all of the rest Gardner exceeds Moss. Gardner has caught 76 more balls, for an extra 581 yards, and two more TDs. So he has moved the ball more frequently and for more yards and has scored more than Moss, so PLEASE tell how Moss is better.

By the way Marvin Harrisons yards per catch is 13.3 and Monks was 13.8. I am not comparing Gardner to either of those two, but my point is that a high career yards per catch usually means the guy was a deep threat, which also means he didn't catch a lot of balls (or at least the tough ones).

Um ... you have been following this story from start to finish, right? Coles, who didn't want to be a Redskin, was "sent shipping", aka traded, for Moss, who does want to be a Redskin.

dude, he wanted to be a redskin because he knew he would get a fat contract. with all due respect, wake up and realize that EVERY player loves the skins... they know if they come here they get paid.

I think it is something else because Gibbs was saying that you are always looking for a player to bring in to help your team. He said they worked someone out this morning and are announcing a signing tommorow.

that does not sound like Moss news. he also mentioned player personell being an ongoing thing finding talent, i think this will be a new player or a trade...we shall see.

Yeah, maybe it has something to do with Gardner. Although I doubt it. Can't wait for the news!!!

Talk about pissing your money away. Are you kidding me?

Wow...This is why Guys like Smoot and Bailey want more money to stay...they see Snyder giving it to guys who never put on a jersey and then turns around and tells guys who played 3,4 years for the skins they ain't worth the money?

Damn....When has he showed he is worth this kind of money? Someone call the cops, you just got robbed.

If Gibbs and Vinny knew half as much as you do about the salary cap then maybe they'd figure out that we could dump Brunnell.

By the way is it me or were two threads that aren't the same merged together?? I thought it was not determined that Moss has anything to do with the big announcement???

If you listen to the interview with Drew Rosenhaus on the website, Michaels says how the signing of Moss was the announcement.

On the other hand, this is good news for our offense. Hopefully we didn't mortgage our future on this guy.

thought we already mortgage our future with the sign & trade for backup QB Brunell, and the gigantic contract of LB Lavar Arrington and the trade for the 25th overall pick of this year for QB Jason Campbell.

I too hope we didn't over pay for a guy that hasn't proven much in the NFL. On the bright side if he faulters we still have David Patten. I see more Ramsey to Patten in the passing game than Ramsey to Moss.

Plus we got a huge hit with coles leaving and then we may possibly go throught the same process of a fat signing bonus for a possibly unproductive receiver. moss will hopefully live up to his cost , but if he doesn't it just seems like a waste of money and cap space.

i like patten better but his bonus was ONLY 3.5. so why not get another guy like patten who's much cheaper and a better gibbs type guy and a possibly better player.

From the Post

Thus, sources said that the extension essentially is a five-year deal worth about $26 million.

and

Perhaps Moss's most impressive quality was his knack for making first downs: Moss turned 78 percent of his catches -- 35 of 45 -- into first downs. (Fifty-two of Coles's career-high 90 catches last season went for first downs.) Moss has career averages of 16 yards per catch and 11.9 yards per punt return.

If he can continue to make first down's at those numbers, he's worth every cent. Sure, question his lack of toughness all you want but these numbers say the opposite.

I think we paid on the high side but I don't think we overpaid by any stretch of the means.

PS - Those complainers out there can whine 'til the cows come home, it's not going to change anything...So, let me get you some cheese for your whine(ing).

It is a little excessive but not AS bad as I thought it would be. It's virtually identical to the contract Muhammed signed with the Bears except he got a $12 mil signing bonus and statisically speaking Muhammed was the best reciever in football last year. However, Muhammed is also a good eight years or so older and last year I think he really peaked. Both contracts are six year deals. Considering that Muhammed is most likely beginning to age a bit I think that over six years they will contribute similarly to each team. It's a big contract but I don't think it's rediculous.

Plaxico got six years $25mil with an $8 mil bonus. The last two seasons Buress and Moss have had similar numbers. Moss's have been similar but still significantly better all around (including his durability) and he is an elite punt returner. Therefore, I don't think this deal was so bad when you compare it to Plaxico's.

2003
Player G Rec Yds Avg Lng TD FD
Moss 16 74 1105 14.9 65 10 49
Buress 16 60 860 14.3 47 4 40

2004
Player G Rec Yds Avg Lng TD FD
Moss 15 45 838 18.6 69 5 35
Buress 11 35 698 19.9 48 5 31

You may say last year's comparison is unfair because Buress only played 11 games but he averaged almost exactly the same catches per game and Moss had a much higher yards per catch anyway so Moss's stats are better. Also, Moss was dinged up but still played four more games.

I'm not trying to say Buress is that great but the contract that Moss signed is right in line with the other contracts that WRs have signed this season. This isn't a terrible deal.

Moss Contract Extension

Post by spudstr04 »

This Moss Is Staying Put
By Casey Husband
Redskins.com
May 5, 2005

Earlier this year, a guy by the name of Moss left his team's bench at FedExField before the final whistle. By contrast, the Redskins' own Moss sounded Thursday likes he's ready for the long haul in his new digs.
Saying, "Players don't want to bounce around, they want a home," wide receiver Santana Moss was in an upbeat mood Thursday at Redskin Park.

Santana Moss
Why not? Moss, obtained from the New York Jets March 10 in the deal involving disgruntled Laveranues Coles, spoke about his new contract extension and his urge to get into the flow of things with his new teammates, particularly Patrick Ramsey.

"This spring, I've attended some celebrity events in Florida," said Moss, 25. "When they announced me, they always said, 'Of the Washington Redskins.'"

He smiled when he said that.

It's now a reality, Moss as a Redskin, after a gap of about two months between the Moss-Coles deal and the first appearance at Redskin Park of Moss, contract extension in hand. In the interim, the former Miami Hurricane worked out in South Florida with other former Miami players while the overwhelming majority of Redskin players have been taking part in the voluntary off-season program at Redskin Park.

During his time with the Jets, Moss totaled 151 catches for 2,416 yards and 19 touchdowns. The 5-10, 185-pound Moss had 45 catches for 838 yards and a team-high five TD catches for the Jets a year ago.

Against Pittsburgh, in an AFC divisional playoff game, Moss went 75 yards with a punt return for an electrifying score in a game the Steelers won in overtime 20-17.

In terms of his four-year NFL career, the most productive season for Moss came in 2003, with 74 catches for 1,105 yards and 10 TDs.

Said Moss: "Here's what I'm focused on now: Getting the system down. It's a blessing to be here. I feel privileged. The door opened, and I was able to take advantage.

"Now, I want to get in here and get off on the right foot. I was working out I Miami and I can assure you it's similar to the running and lifting they've been doing here."

"One of the things the Jets told us about Santana," said Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs," is that he's a great work-out guy. We're not worried about that.

"It's a happy day for us. We got the deal with Santana done. We're excited about getting to work now. We have a long-term deal, so we're excited."

The Redskins continue to tweak their roster. But for the moment, Moss joins a group of wide receivers that includes David Patten, Taylor Jacobs, James Thrash and Darnerien McCants. Rod Gardner's status has not appreciably been altered, Gibbs said Thursday. The Redskins have given the four-year NFL veteran the right to seek a trade.

In the 2001 NFL draft, Moss was taken at No. 16 in the first round, just ahead of the Redskins and their selection of Gardner.

Asked if he had planned to spend extra time with Ramsey, Moss said: "I'm gonna do whatever is needed. I'll make sure I'll get up to par with him.

"I was basically staying in shape down there with the Miami trainers. Their program is intense, just like it is here."

(I did a search and nothing came up, so I guess no one has posted this......)

Also, if you get a chance, check out the video of his press conference.... Moss sounds like a stand-up guy..and Gibbs actually complemented Drew Rosenhaus...
