From what I've seen this offseason Joe Gibbs has pissed me off. yeah yeah I know what hes done in the past but what has he done for me lately? I'm only 15 and dont even remember watchin the Redskins win those titles so to me Joe Gibbs is just a guy with a legacy behind his name. My feelings might have been different had I experienced his greatness the first get go, but for now, he's really handled this GM duty pretty poorly

I guess the owner of the Atlanta Falcons was absolutely crazy to fire Dan Reeves to make a spot for him to come back to.

Gibbs Addresses Arrington Surgery

Head coach Joe Gibbs said Monday that the team expects to take a "conservative approach" with LaVar Arrington's knee injury, but he added that the Pro Bowl linebacker should be ready for training camp in July.
Arrington underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee last week after seeing Redskins' team medical consultant Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. He was walking on crutches at Redskins Park on Monday.

"[Dr. Andrews] feels like it's going to be a two-month process in which we don't want him running on it," Gibbs told WJFK-FM on Redskins Radio on Monday evening. "Then he'll be able to start working back out and running. He should be ready for the season."

Gibbs said that the team has been conservative with Arrington's injury since a lateral meniscus tear was diagnosed last August 2004.

"We always try to err on the side of caution," he said. "LaVar really wanted to play, but he still didn't feel good after coming back late in the season. So we felt like he needed to go on injured reserve list and we'd take the whole offseason to get healthy.

"When we started working out in the offseason, he'd have very good weeks--some good workouts--and then he'd have a setback. It wouldn't feel as good, there'd be slight swelling. We just thought that was part of the process."

About two weeks ago, Gibbs said Arrington told him that he had a great workout. But then he came back in over the weekend, worked out again, and it didn't feel as good. That's when the decision was made to have Arrington visit with Dr. Andrews.

After examining the knee, Dr. Andrews determined that another scope was needed.

In media reports on Monday, Arrington expressed his frustration that the injury had lingered so long.

Responded Gibbs: "He was emotional. LaVar was upset because he had to have another scope in there. The good news is that, as Dr. Andrews said, he should be ready for the regular season. And also the good news is that his knee looks fine in all of the critical areas. I think we did what needed to be done."

The main part of playing for Gibbs is keep it in house. Never ever run to the media!!!

Lavar is gonna need to grow up fast if he wants to play football for the redskins much longer. If he doesn't he might be sitting at home for a few years until his contract becomes tradeable.

You'd think these players would get it by now. I understand Lavar is an emotional guy, but blow up at the coach or snyder. Do not make yourself expendable. Especially when your contract isn't...

I sure hope Lavar comes out and changes his tune next week, but I also seem to remember him qouted as saying he was dropping the suit against the skins for the 6 million quite awhile ago....

I love this team man, and JOE GIBBS runs this team...but it seem s like we can't get the really high paid players to buy into his mentality. Santana,Taylor,Lavar, all young superstars. But they're acting like whiny babys, with the exception of Santana.

I find these quotes at least give you a little peace of mind, but Lavar was completely wrong in the manner in which he handled this.......

To start off this post I want to say that I used to love lavar as a player and playmaker.

That being said I say we cut his ass. Well with the salary cap the way it is it can't be done but i say we ship him out of here. The thing the redskins need to do most is make a statement to itself, the players and the rest of the league that we're not a team that's constantly in disarray. We're not a team that players can come to for social security checks or a place to up their asking price. We're not a team that gives in to players. You guys may think i'm crazy but I'd rather replace Arrington and get back two marcus washingtons. For all the money this man's made and the stats he's put up, he should be very quiet. Come to think of it i don't even think he's had a 10 sack year yet.

I know I'm ranting but I'm tired of "playmakers" on this team and other teams controling the nfl. I think its stupid, because mainly , successful teams don't have a load of high priced overly hyped players.

Back when we were in the glorious days of burgendy and gold, players came here not for cash, not for a bunch of playing time, they came here because it was a professional attitude with professional players who won.

Right now the team seams like a day care with gibbs having to make calls to players mothers because they're whinning to go back home.

I've played organized football for 5 years, played every single position on the football field except punter/kicker, and I watch anything that has to do football. Combines, playoff games, NFL network, you name it. I know how the different offensive and defensive schemes work and I can tell you biographys of hundreds of players. I dont fault you and the rest of the members on this board for not thinkin I know a damn thing about football, because I am 15, and you're very right, most teens dont know a DAMN thing. Ok, how many of you noticed that this article was about his INJURY, not his attitude. Please stop giving in to the manipulation of words that the media is so adept at.

Lavar had knee surgery and wanted to play BAD - so bad he didn't care we weren't in the playoffs, he wanted to play. The coaches supported and pushed him on it - their jobs as motivators.

Now in hindsight, because he worked his ass off - AND HE DID - and is back at where he started, going in for surgery, he wants answers taht he cannot find.

Health is like the lottery. What makes me feel good is that Dr. Andrews seems to think his knee will be fine.

Let Arrington rant. We do it everyday.

Arrington just wants to win, and he wants to be ON THE FIELD when we win. Is that the kind of player you want to cut?

Please read between the lines, and don't take the words at face value. He should know better, but we all have our moments.

I was really excited about the progress Lavar had been making in the offseason, recovering from his knee injury, but this article is certainly a rude awakening.

However, knowing the ramifications of a Lavar "trade"/release on our salary cap tell me that both Lavar and the organization will have to mend the fences (done, apparently) between them.

I also think the Post was working the negative angle on this story. SOunds like Lavar engaged in a impromptu Q&A session, and his frustration got the best of him. Did he say some good things??? Honestly, I don't know, but I'm sure the Post wasn't eager to report on that, especially since they have a grudge with the Skins organization.

Finally, the "missing" bonus thing is far from over, IMO. Months ago, when people took Lavar's comments "at face value" about dropping the case, I said it was good p.r. fodder, but nowhere near the truth. Hopefully they can resolve this issue soon.

BTW - Are the Postons still his agents?

he's so far out of position (ask Ray Rhodes and Marvin Lewis) half the time you can't even tell he's the one that got burned because he takes himself out of the play...

I've always been a union guy and instinctively a supporter of workers over management, including players over management, but my sympathies for players are beginning to fray. Coles, Pierce, and Smoot have fallen in my estimation and now Taylor and Moss pretty much disgust me. Add to that
Arrington's recent beef and Courtney Brown's recent display and I have to say: What the hell am I doing rooting for these spoiled jerks?
As a matter of face, I am tired of seeing Arrington overrun ball carriers and being taken as a superstar without the stats to back it up. As for Cole, how many of his ninety catches were uncontested gimmee catches at or around the line of scrimmage. Seems to me at least 20. I think he had maybe 70 contested grabs, or less.
I was also tired of Smoot letting first down passes be caught in front of him and Moss and Brown being injured. Say, does anyone remember Pierce tackling grass against Pittsburg. I do. The heck with all those guys.

This isn't the smack forum, lets keep name calling out of this.

Anyway, this talk of getting rid of Arrington is maddening! Arrington is a beast who just had a temporary moment of frustration.

Look at things from his POV, he is supposed to be a big player in the defense in 2004 and he gets badly injured. People don't think it's very serious but it lasts and lasts. Arrington can barely walk but people rip him to shreds for not being on the field because the media portrays his injury in the same light as a stubbed toe. He sees the defense prosper without him and he wants to be on the field, but he's on crutches... he's finally healthy enough maybe to engage in football activities and they pressure him into the starting lineup... he injures himself again from too much strenous activity...

The way we've treated Arrington is not acceptable, and it's not the way you'd treat a player you respect. The coaching staff made a mistake in thinking Arrington's injury was nothing serious and Lavar has EVERY right to be angry with the awful treatment from the coaches AND the fans.

The coaches and fans getting mad though? That's preposterous! Lavar Arrington is a lifer who's done nothing but eat, sleep and brethe Redskins football for years only to get this terrible and unearned reputation and the cloud it carries.

Anyone who would even entertain the notion of trading Lavar over this incident should be ashamed of themselves!
