I think Im being overly optimistic when I say Garnell could replace Smoot this year.

He could definately play well for us in the nickel spot, I believe that is a reality.

What we need to do is groom this young man to take over for us in years coming. He needs to be able to surpass Harris and overflow Smoots shows. Lets be honest, Smoot is a good player but he wasn't that far above average. He got his job done, and I believe Wilds can be equal to that.

This defense doesn't need playmakers, we dont need superstars. Last year we saw that if we can get a good group of guys who love the game, play with a passion and can EXECUTE the defense then we'll succeed.

Wilds went to VT, and was behind DeAngelo Hall. He's a solid corner, but I see him more as a quality reserve than a starter.

If we have ever learned anything from the past, it has to be that you can't just write a guy off as a quality reserve. A lot of people did that with Tom Brady and look at him now. I saw both Wilds and Hall play at VT and DeAngelo Hall was perhaps the most overhyped player that I have ever seen. He alone lost a game against West Virginia, but was heralded by scouts because of his make up speed and big play capability. But just like Chump, Hall can create big plays but give up big ones as well. I'd much rather have a tough corner that doesn't give up the big play, and I think Wilds can provide that at some point in the future (no more than a nickel right now IMO).

Garnell will be a beast in this system...I would'nt be surprised if he got a shot at starting if we don't draft a CB.

But as someone earlier said, nickelback is more a possibility.

I dont understand why no one has faith in this guy...something we never have is players for more than a year...im sick and tired of us gettin some high profile guy that doesnt do nothing, I can give a long list of examples but dats a waste of time...Wilds can turn out to be a good nickel back, and thats amazingly good for an undrafted rookie, and last year walkt harris wasnt even 100 %, and still played well, lets say he does good in preseason and starts then we dnot have to use 9th pick on corner and spend all that money...but really can someone explain to me why wilds and harris arent capable to hold down the 2nd and 3rd spot...??

Because these guys are used to us dropping an entire team rebuilding every year. The ones who are bored and dissapointed with these offseason. Im only upset about the loss of Pierce.

O think a lot of people on this thread have blitzing and pass rushing confused. When I refer to a pass rush Im talking about just our front four. If anyone in here deabtes that our front didnt get hardly any rush on there own is crazy. We only got sacks by blitzing. What will we do against a team like the Cardinals who have 1000 great WRs. We will still need a pass rush and may need to keep everyone in coverage.

I can remeber playing against teh Eagles and Donovan had lots and lots and lots of itme to pass the ball if we didn't blitz. Our front four got us through a season but we need to upgrade them.

If we can get a pass rush and have teams worry about our front four, could you imagine what our blitzing capability will be like? Last year our blitzes got picked up a lot, especially in that last Philly game.

Wilds will probably compete for the nickel back position. Harris is slated to start opposite Springs.

Look for a wide open competition in camp. If nothing else, the man is a solid ST contributor.

This year, we focused on a guy who is unlikely to make major contract demands and has no known character issues. He's bigger than Smoot (weight-wise) and is a surer tackler.
What could possibly be wrong with that, particularly when you consider that CB is a recently devalued position ? I'm aware that the other two were chosen first, and I'm fully aware that Big Mike was available at that pick...but was it really such a horrible choice, considering he was the top guy on the Redskins draft board ?
Surely, they know something we're not considering.
Remember the '95 draft ? We picked a sure thing with a big, tall WR from Colorado when we could've picked up a CB from Michigan.
Knowing then what you know now, would you still take Westbrook over Law ?

If a CB goes, it will be Ade Jimoh, not Wilds. Come on guys.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
