I don't really care what Coles has to say about the Redskins. I think he has proven that all that is important to him is the money. If he was a true stand up guy he would have played out his contract and not whined like a little girl about the skins passing game. He is nothing but a greedy little punk with a bum toe. I hope the jets enjoy having him back. Especially when things don't go his way. Boo Hoo Boo Hoo.

Im not shocked by this story. This happens with most of the F/A's that come here. Maybe just maybe the homers will realize that its the fault of this front office. If we had a good front office half of these lame players would have been picked up and we wouldn't be going through this...
I blame the Skins.

The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!
You have finally seen the light. How you guys are bashing the players...the players you signed to these big deals in ther first place & they get blammed for the FO and their incompentence.Chris Luva Luva wrote:Im not shocked by this story. This, ladies and gents, is what you call Brutal Honesty.

Well, I personally don't see how giving guys a lot of money will make them bad people and less loyal, but if you guys think so...
I blame the guy who IS at fault. The one who signed a contract, then decided he wanted out, didn't wanna give back any money though, oh and btw I need another bonus from the Jets when I get there, and let's not forget, you guys suck, my toe is fine, and I'm happy to be back.
Yeah, how can we think he's at fault

No, but malcontents like him are. Can you say Bruce Smith, Deion Sanders, Jeff George, Michael Westbrook. I'm not blaming anyone but the Redskins for those signings, but bad team chemistry will kill your chances at success every time.
There is blame enough to go around. Yes, the front office is to blame for the signings, but the players are responsible for their own conduct while with the TEAM. <-- No "I" there.

Well he's at it again. The more i read the more I'm glad we got rid of him. I rather be in cap hell for this year than put up with his spoiled attitude.

He often commiserated with Rod Gardner, another Redskins receiver in search of a trade. "We'd shake our heads and wonder where we fit in every time we saw a new game plan," said Coles, who became a Pro Bowl receiver while playing in Steve Spurrier's pass-happy system a year earlier. "People say we're leaving now because we're selfish, but how are you supposed to be happy as a receiver when you go from a passing offense to a running offense? This wasn't what I signed up for."
Yeesh, I've been defending the guy this whole time. . .but quotes like that make me scratch my head a little bit.
When the season ended, Coles met twice with Gibbs in order to air grievances. Neither session led to any positive results. "We concluded that it was best to go our separate ways," Coles said. "I don't want to get into the details but he basically said he didn't trust me, and I said I didn't trust him."
The lesson that I learn from this?
Trust Gibbs.

He'll play with a better supporting cast on a playoff-caliber team. He also gets to be happy again. That's the biggest boon for a player who described every week of last season as a "miserable" experience and added that the most important lesson he learned while in Washington was "trust nobody."
I don't agree with the writer's assessment that the Jet's have a better supporting cast, or that they are and we're not a "playoff caliber" team.

I guess we'll be reading these stories for the next week or so until she gets it all out of her system. What a complete low class whining little jerk. Everbody associated with the skins, from the front office to the coaching staff, to the players, have had nothing but positive things to say about him. Be a man Laverneus, and accept the fact that it just didn't work out. Real men understand that it's not always one persons fault. At least the skins did you a favor and let you go and took a huge cap hit to accomodate you. And why? Because you weren't a big enough part of the game plan.
90 receptions on the year isn't part of the game plan?
Maybe it was because you weren't open enough downfield to throw the ball to. Who would you all rather have with the Redskins? A hall of fame coach or a spoiled wide receiver with a bum toe?

How can you wirte that with a staright face? Snyder threatening the guy to do what he wants and you take snyders side?
I never commented on what Coles said about Snyder, personally I'm not sure what to believe on that one. IF Snyder said something along those lines, then I would not be "on his side", whatever that means. I do know that Snyder wants to win, I'm not so sure about Coles anymore. . .
Check the content of my post: I was commenting on Coles' attitude during the season--shaking his head at game plans with none other than Rod Gardner. I guess those guys where just too cool for school when it came down to it.
As for not trusting Gibbs, I'm sticking to my guns. Who do I trust more--the man responsible for the golden era of Redskins football, or a 5-year (or so) veteran who was happier under Spurrier's reign?

I think that its pretty hard to disagree with the Playoff caliber team assessment. I mean they did end their game in the playoffs...and really could have...some say should have beat Pittsburgh.

Hello!?!?! Snyder is his boss, he is the one who decided to give him millions of dollars. If Coles didn't want to do what the team asked he can sit and make millions on the bench rehabbing his toe. I cannot believe that people feel that is a serious threat!
In fact, reading that article made me sick! I cannot believe football, the media, and society in general has denegrated to the state where Coles is the victim. He is someone who chose not to do his job and play his part and then he is upset that he is told that if he doesn't do that he can do nothing at all.
This is a TEAM sport, Joe Gibbs is a Hall of Fame coach, Coles is just a cog in the system. Why must he play by his own rules? Because of his ego and stubborness. He is a truly spoiled human being and he has no clue. He got far more than he deserved, got his wish to leave, ended up in this amazing wonderland as the author of the article describes it known as the Jets organization, made off with boatloads of money he didn't deserve and then was given more and somehow he is the one who has been victimized. Boo freakin' hoo!!!! Grow up you spoiled brat!
I had no idea things were that bad. I'd like to see him playing for Bill Parcells! I always thought that Coles would play hard no matter what but the things Coles said in that article are the most damning I have ever heard about him and they came from his own mouth! He seems to be trying to make Joe Gibbs and the organization to be these terrible people. Let me get this through your skull, you work for them, you do what they want because they pay you! He obviously has never come close to having a real job.
What ever happened to respect!?!? Did your parents ever make you do something you didn't want to and tell you it was for your own good and then years later you realized how that experience had benefited your life and made you a better person? Even if Joe Gibbs has been away from football for a long time he is a Hall of Fame coach who knows infinately more about life and football than Coles will ever learn! How do I know? Because Coles obviously is unwilling to take the steps to learn. I cannot believe him say how upset he was when Gibbs, a Hall of Fame coach who won three Super Bowls, took over and Portis came to town because he heard that it would become a run first offense. Well we don't need anyone like that around here! Talk about not buying into a system!
I always thought that Coles played hard no matter what and he probably did but for the first time I have seen what a sickness he was to the club. While other guys bought into the system him and his buddy Rod thought they knew better. Finally I realize that THEY HAD TO GO!! Good riddance!!!
And by the way, I pat Snyder on the back! He showed me some true character standing up to who I now realize is a spoiled brat. That part about buying the plasma screen so he could watch from home was classic! He showed me some real conviction. I don't know, maybe I was brought up differently than other people out there but I learned from an early age to show repect for and listen to my elders and superiors. Why, because they generally know more than you do and the things that they teach you are invaluable. I am outraged about this entire episode and outraged that anyone could find Snyder's actions to be inapropriate! I am only 24 and already I wonder what this world has come to!
I don't think I am so much outraged by Coles's actions as much as I am saddened and disappointed that the writer of that article, Coles, and many of you out there seem to think that Gibbs and Snyder did anything but try to hold up some discipline and build a winning system. Some may think that an episode like this shows that Gibbs may not be able to suceed in the modern NFL. If that is true I think that shows very badly on the NFL, the modern NFL player, and society in general, not on Gibbs! If anything the NFL should be more like Gibbs, after reading that article I admire him more than ever! Gibbs is a better man than Coles and I respect him more than ever that he never brought this topic out into the public or said things behind Coles's back as Coles is now doing in the press. I salute Snyder and Gibbs for doing everything possible, INCLUDING TAKING THE CAP HIT, to get rid of such an ingrate!

"If you want to know how badly Coles and the Redskins needed a divorce, consider this: Redskins owner Daniel Snyder threatened Coles when the receiver's refusal to accept the trade without a contract extension thwarted the deal last month. "He said that if I stayed in Washington, he would turn me into another Terry Glenn," Coles said. (Glenn, now with the Cowboys, missed most of the 2001 season with New England as his public feud with head coach Bill Belichick resulted in various fines, suspensions and ultimately Glenn's benching). "He said he would send a flat-screen television to my home because I'd be better off watching the games there. That was his way of saying I'd be sitting for the next couple years until they cut me."
Thank you Dan Snyder. This is exactly how I had hoped the Redskins would address the situation. I thought we should have made Coles stay and sit if need be, but now that we know more of the inside story, thanks to broketoe, I'm soo happy it worked out this way. It's nice to know that Snyder had the nerve call a player out and threaten to sit him. Players have to know that you will do it. Now they will. Great job Daniel

Mark those words
This statement speaks volumes about the case in point. If Joe did not trust Coles, that alone is good enough for me to get rid of him and try to get the best possible deal back for the team under the circumstances.welch wrote:Case open, case closed. Coles does not trust the most honest and decent coach in pro football. Astonishing.
Over the years, I can't think of a single player who felt that about Gibbs.
Mark those words, they will come back to hunt Coles in the future
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!
