Oh, boy. I would love that. It would be exactly 17 minutes before TO started getting antsy about who the number one receiver is on the team. Nothing like a little agita to disrupt a team's chemistry...
I guess what I'm saying is, the only way to beat the Eagles is to have them beat themselves.

becasuse he is a good pass rusher from the left and right sides, at the beginning of last season they were thinking of putting him on the Defensive End to pass rush...

Not to mention he is also the best LB to cover the TE in a pass coverage situation.

Actually I disagree on his TE coverage. He is physically ABLE to cover the TE, however he and Marcus Washington occasionally miss their coverage assignments.

That was what I liked about Pierce. He was always in the right place... never allowed easy yards.

It will be great to see him playing again next year.

Don't take this to the bank, this is indeed a rumor...

A longtime and trustworthy friend of mine works at a sports bar in G'burg, MD. Apparently over the weekend a regular that he's known for a long time came up to the bar with a guy who is affiliated with the Skins in some way. He didn't get his name or his job for the franchise. They were talking about the league, the Skins and the draft. This guy said that the top 4 on the Skins draft board are as follows:

Antrell Rolle
Mike Williams
Braylon Edwards
Shawn Merriman(sp.?)

In that order.

Both of us are always skeptical about random people like that. This doesn't happen often, actually it's never happened before... But if my friend bought it this guy must have been walking the walk and talking the talk.

But like I said, don't take this to the bank...

Two questions for the decade: Is there any possible way to escape blowing cap money on Brunell, such as giving him away with a future draft choice? Can we create enough additional cap money to acquire Brown or Ty Law or Andre Dyson by releasing Gardner rather than trading him? It seems to me we need to be creative here. :?:

"The Redskins are reportedly interested in wide receiver Kevin Dyson, who didn't play last season after being released by the San Diego Chargers during training camp."

Ugggh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! we are scraping the bottom of the barrel here keep Gardner in that case....

No... if you trade a player you just have to pay his signing bonus to the cap right then and there. Releasing a player and trading a player have the EXACT same effect on the cap... you pay whatever is left of the bonus on that year's cap.

Not that this would happen with Brunell, but is it true that a player can forego his signing bonus money, if he wants the trade bad enough?

There are certain ways a team can gain cap relief, but it doesn't happen often in the real world... as witnessed in the LC fiasco. You have to try to remember that a signing bonus is usually paid up front, regardless of how the team is allowed to pro-rate it for the cap. And there is a reason it is considered GUARANTEED money... it's virtually impossible not to get it.

But this is the Rumor mill and we're starting to stray way off topic. So how about we get back to any rumors and start new threads on non rumor related things?

Thanks.

NO GO ON NINERS-CHARGERS DEAL

PFT.com wrote:Now that ESPN.com and its talking foofs are taking full credit for the origination of the rumors regarding the possible trade of quarterback Philip Rivers from the Chargers to the 49ers, we'll go one step farther and say that there's no way that the deal will happen.

Per a league source, the deal was DOA due to the fact that the Niners first put out feelers after March 10, the day on which the option portion of Rivers' rookie signing bonus came due.

If the trade had occurred prior to March 10, the Chargers would have realized a far more manageable cap hit, and the Niners would have paid the second installment on his signing bonus.

The more important point here, as we see it, is the timing of the Niners' interest in Rivers. It appears that San Fran didn't decide to make a run at Rivers until after the new power structure got a chance to take a look-see at this years hot quarterback prospects -- Aaron Rodgers of Cal and Alex Smith of Utah, both of whom conducted individual workouts only days before we first caught wind of the rumors of a possible Chargers-Niners trade.

We're also hearing that the Niners generally are leery about the prospects of selecting a quarterback or a tailback in the No. 1 overall slot, given that a bust at that level will haunt the franchise for up to five seasons. Either the team leaves the guy in the lineup and suffer -- or pull him out and look like a bunch of nincompoops for drafting him.

By taking a defensive player or a receiver in the one hole, it's far easier to continue to leave the guy on the field even if he ends up being a turd.

Our guess is that, unless the Niners can swing a trade for a starting quarterback (Drew Brees is still available, theoretically), they'll try to trade down a few spots -- where they then can select receivers Braylon Edwards or Mike Williams.

And if they can't move down, our guess is that they'll give serious consideration to taking Edwards or Williams with the No. 1 pick.
