Why didn't Shanny play Armstrong? Go with Shanny's consistent sayings and actions rather than the above. Consistently Shanny has said that you don't practice you don't play (of course, if you are a stud, that rule goes out the door in the regular season). AAA took off the yellow jersey for one practice and he saw limited duty. With practices closed, we won't know until the Colts game how he is doing.

I think Anthony Armstrong is pretty much done here. Aldrick Robinson is a younger player with a similar skillset, but who has more lateral agility & explosiveness. I think Shanahan goes with his guy Aldrick over Armstrong.

While he's only been in the B & G for 3 seasons, Anthony Armstrong is 29 years old. I think the performance of Robinson, his potential, and the fact that our receiving core is getting younger players who can grow with RG3, it will be tough for Armstrong to crack this roster.

Good points.. I'd also point out he came from arena football, and was a rookie to the NFL when we signed him. He's just never been THAT good.Id rather go with the faster younger guys, and I think Shanny will agree.

^I agree as well, that AAA is done here, but I am hoping that he looks great on Saturday. He's a great guy, love to see another team be willing to trade for him to keep him off the waiver wire.

Plus a late round pick or a serviceable o line man would be a nice parting gift..

Even if he was "that good", it would have been a moot point with noodle arm Rex throwing him the ball.

This guy has skills and is good enough to make the 53-man roster. However, not having a QB who could utilize his skill-set was a major for his decline in 2011. Of course, he has his issues with beating the jam and now he's been injured.

He won't have trouble finding a team to get on, maybe as the 4th WR.

I agree.. I hope he has a great game and we can trade him. Fact is hes an older shorter slower Robinson. Seasoned tho he may be id rather the youth. Briscoe is above both just because of his experience and size = redzone threat and more playing time then either.

Breakdown: Garçon- has proved he can be the number one and is. Moss- is Moss the slot spot is his for at least this year probably more w RGiii. Hankerson- is big and has done very good as a rook (camp and his breakout game b4 injury) and has grown in his secound year, hes a LOCK. Morgan- has done well despite an injury set back, his upside isjust to good + wed be on the hook for part of his salary if we cut him I think.. LOCK. Banks- his top three in the league returning ability is just to much to let walk. He will be the sixth receiver but I think w his speed and rgiiis combined coach Shanny will have a few more plays for him on O. Briscoe- big redzone target for RGiii, experience and still as young as most rookies. What else is there to say? I'd personally lock him and BB in. Robinson- has made a strong case for himself and I think he makes the squad( final 53 not ps). He's fast has good hands and is maturing nicely. Like any of our wr if he's cut he will be picked up. I have him behind Briscoe and banks cuz let's be real just how much time will he see? How much games will he be activated? Who knows. AAA- outside looking in... That injury might have cost him. He's just not an improvement over Robinson in any area I can think of. Two years ago we just didnt have the depth.. his drops last year made me rethink his value, I'm sure coach hated it aswell. I'm hoping for trade bait because at this point all the other guys have built stronger cases.

I liked what I saw from Morgan and Dez against the Colts.

1 - there are a bunch of guys not on rosters this evening ONLY because they did not prove their value on the practice field

and

2 - there are a bunch of players that proved in the preseason games and on the practice fields that they had more to offer their teams during this season than they did last season

I like how you think, good analysis.

I also like moss in the slot. He is a toughguy and becoming a specialist in that spot will add a couple years to his playing time...unless he breaks something as that spot can be tough. What i see is his continued presence in the same area will open possibilities for the tight ends coming across. I bet we see more tightend activity during the season and i will attribute taht to Moss being in the slot.

Here's my prediction and rationale from August 13th

Why would I go 7:

1. Shanny likes tinkering with ways to use Banks. Banks is a weapon he like having. Banks is 100% healthy for the first time. If Banks improves on his route running in games, we know he can do it in practice - Banks is there. He always says good things about Brandon including the slight on his past before. He said words to the effect, Brandon is beginning to be a pro player.

2. Aldrick Robinson is a darn good receiver. It has taken him a bit to show it in practice, but Shanny trusts June Jones at SMU which is why he continues to draft Jones' players. Robinson says potential, potential and potential again - just as a wideout. You don't get rid of this guy even if it turns out in games , he can't catch punts. He brought Aldrick up to the 53 for the last game of last season to keep the Jags from getting him. Shanny likes Aldrick.

3. Don't know if Briscoe is in yet with Shanny, but I will assume he is with his red zone prowess.

If he keeps that pace with us, he will catch 9 TDs this year. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Only if he is active on Sundays. For that to happen he will either need there to be injuries to the WRs above him or he needs to start playing ST.

Yeah, that rule pisses me off. Why can't all 53 be active every Sunday?

*Moss,
*Gafney
*Armstrong - ST
*Paul - ST
*Stallworth - ST
*Banks- ST but Kick returns only
*Austin - ST inactive
*Hank - in active

For Week 1: Activated 5 receivers plus Banks.

This years group:

Garcon, Hank, Moss, Morgan, Briscoe, Robinson and Banks

ST coverage is not their strength.

We might be seeing 4 activated plus Banks
My guess somebody might be alternating with someone to get the 4th activated slot for a 4 activated plus Banks. Banks will see action from scrimmage.

Once again, good point. Briscoe might not have all the offense down yet, so he might be a Week 1 inactive (also due to lack of ST) depending on what Shanny sees in match ups with the New Orleans defense.

Then you also look at who you’re going to dress on which game. How many receivers can be up? Who’s going to be on special teams? Who’s going to be backup X, backup Z? At the end of the day, we decided to go in that direction. You know, Briscoe is a little bit bigger guy. 6-2, 220 range. A very physical receiver, whereas Anthony’s more of that X guy where he’s got that great speed, very similar to [Pierre] Garçon and [Aldrick] Robinson and even [Brandon] Banks. So we thought we were a little deeper at that X position than we were that Z position, so that’s why we went that
direction.”

Briscoe’s ability to play special teams: “First of all, if you’re going to play special teams, you’ve got to be part of the top five receivers. If you’re not, you don’t play special teams. When you do start getting some depth at the wide receiver position, who’s able to play special teams? Who’s that fifth receiver? Who’s that fourth receiver? Armstrong probably was not going to dress when you take a look at a guy like Aldrick Robinson and Pierre Garçon. And if you do take a guy like Banks, there’s a lot of different scenarios you can have. But I loved Anthony because I loved the guy. He’s a great guy. Very smart – knew all three positions. And it really was a tough decision to pick one of those guys. But we’re going to make decisions which we think is best for our football team, and I think you guys will like Briscoe in the future.”

Did he answer that question about Briscoe playing special teams? The way I read his first sentence of his answer is Briscoe will be a top 5 receiver therefore, he can play special teams. Second sentence and on, I read it like this: If aren't a top five receiver, you won't dress. Banks though not a top 5 receiver will dress because he can be used in a lot of scenarios and one of the scenarios is returning punts which happens to be ST. That's my guess at reading Shanny.

Kind of sounded to me like Brisco was the 6th WR and wouldn't dress unless they lost Hankerson or Morgan sure to injury.
