The rumor (floated by Cousins agent) is that they want to know that RG is gone before they start contract talks? Iagree the market will be significant for Cousins.

They need to use the franchise tag on someone else other then Cousins. They need to sign Cousins long term and move forward.

What happens if RGIII leaves and a team throws big money at Cousins and he leaves. What do we do????

Lock up Cousins now.

You use the Tag on Cousins...I think this may very well happen, just to lock him up while they work on a deal.

Honestly, if I were Cousins, I'd take it one step further...... I wouldn't sign until RGIII had signed with another team. I am serious --- but the drop dead date for signing (whether or not RGIII had done so or not) would be the day before/morning of the draft --- because once the draft occurs, the market will get significantly smaller and the best offer may no longer be on the table.

That being said, this is my anti-Danny boy coming out. I wouldn't trust a thing that weasel says. And I wouldn't want the owner's little pet as my #2.

Now, I don't see this happening in any scenario --- but it's Danny F&<^ing Snyder --- MUCH odder things have happened since he ruined us by purchasing the team. I'd make sure my bases were covered.

The preference should be to lock him up long term. The tag is a bandaid and not in the best interest of either party. If I were Cousins, I'd want the $25-30M signing bonus in my bank account now. If I were Scot, I wouldn't want to spend $20M on a QB next year and THEN have to give him the $25-30M+ bonus next season on top of another $16-20M in salary.....

In the franchise scenario, the only way it works out for our FO is if --- after seeing next years schedule and incredible DEFs we play (AZ, CAR, PIT, GB, MIN, CIN) --- Cousins doesn't play as well and we pay him less...... then again if we have contract negotiations during the season, how he plays next year won't really matter as they will most likely be done at the beginning of the year....... on top of that, I don't see Cousins being interested in the distraction of negotiating a contract mid-season; he doesn't seem like that kind of player.

Regardless, Cousins is no fool. The whole "wants to be wanted" is schtick. He is ASKING for a long term deal when he says that.

I just don't see an issue ... Scot & the FO will want to get Cousins re-signed and the Cousins camp wants to re-sgn here

this will get done at the appropriate time and be very fair because of the parties involved ...

now, if Dan Snyder is at all involved in this then it really does not matter, the franchise is screwed

I don't know what the timing is for letting Griffin go but it makes no sense at all that he's even still here, so how does he even factor into anything - if anyone thinks that Dan Snyder is "holding" onto Griffin for whatever reason then it does not matter what happens with Cousins or anyone here because we're royally screwed if Scot & the FO are not making ALL of the player and coaching staff decisions

Well there is already a report out that it will be sooner rather than later. Also the report says he was on the team this year at the request of the owner. Robert has cleaned out his locker and in true RG fashion left this note...

I had drafted up this long email about how RGIII learned nothing this year........ And as I was drafting it, thought to myself "I honestly don't believe RGIII would do that"....... then I did a little more research and learned the note had been up in his locker ALL SEASON. Why he only left the note is another issue, but all in all, albeit a little diva-ish, it's overall not a big deal. It is almost a way of him saying "goodbye" to the experience he had in DC. Who he's "forgiving" I have no clue --- as a man you are responsible for yourself --- perhaps Danny boy or the doctors, who knows, but perhaps it was a way to get "closure".

Guys, this was yet again just another idiot member of the media trying to twist a story in order to get more "clicks"......

I agree that this is overblown, but the dude knew reporters were filming him cleaning out his locker.

And he purposely moved this note to the center of the locker and was the only thing he didn't take with him (various other notes were taped to his locker and he took those with him).

^^^Exactly, why not just clean out the locker and move on?? He clearly wanted to send some sort of message by leaving it IMO.

Maybe it was "Hey team mates... don't let anything SkinsJock says get you down... just follow this stuff and do the best you can, anyway... Now I'm off to start my new career as an astronomer..."

I love that it irks so many - even when he has not played a down and has according to all reports, been very supportive - this kid is awesome ...

hopefully he gets back on the field soon and proves that he can play this game at a high level

I will pull for RGIII no matter where he ends up, unlees he winds up with one of our enemies in the NFC East. Then we have a problem!.

well not really - there are many here that know more than you and I do that know he cannot play QB, so there is that to consider ...

besides, I just see him as wanting to go somewhere where he can get the support he needs and an opportunity to play reasonably soon - I just don't see that with the eagles or the pukes

Kirk Cousins 2015 = Nick Foles 2013

Except Foles beat good teams and whether it is a winning team, MNF or the playoffs, Cousins lays an egg.

Sign him, but don't spend a lot of money on Foles, err I mean Cousins.

You are aware that Foles played good in 2014 before being injured?

Foles was a product of the system, which he thrived in. Which just so happened to be a system that teams were slowly catching up to. The WCO is a system that's been around for years and has been successful. Cousins thriving in the WCO means two things: so long to your man crush & no real threat of a total regression.

No. Just no. Only five quarterbacks in NFL history have done what Kirk Cousins did this season.
