I don't think they're being lazy just because they're local. I think they just feel they are the best on their board. They'd take an out-of-town kid in no time if they felt he was better.

I think that the barnes pick was a good one.

One Reason: We don't have a starting Slot CB!! No nickel corner on the team. That was Shawn Springs' position and he is gone. Tryon, westbook and smoot are all too small. hall and carlos don't play that type of technique. We did need a bigger guy who can play the slot reciever.

We actually have all of our starting O-line. you might not like them but its Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, Thomas and Heyer, Jason and Rhinehart as backups

This does mean that we need the backup C/G- would could be Kendall and a backup Tackle- Mike Williams-? prolly not. So the Tackle and Strong Side LB are desperate needs.

We need some backups here that can develop and step in for a game or two.

Look at it the way you are facing Gibbs4Life. Carter lines up on the right, so he is the RDE. I think they will move him to the left though and play Orakpo on the right.

And I think this was a bad pick. We should have went OT. Drafting the best player available is a good general strategy, but there are times when the dropoff between best available and need aren't that far, and the need is great, you HAVE to go with need. We definitely need OT more than DB.

The CB was a good pick. There was just a big run on corners - 6 picked in the third right after the skins picked. Little chance that Barnes would have made it out of the third round.

I do not agree with going CB.

Kevin Barnes is a heck of a player though. So I am happy that at least we picked up an athlete. He can tackle with the best of them.

The skins need to trade into the 4th and take a tackle. Only one has gone in the third i think. That won't last in the 4th.

Chase Coffman is going to be a good TE.

No, He would go against their LT, if he plays RDE.

If he plays LDE he would face the RT, but he'd also typically be on the TE side (the strong side). I'm not sure he or AC are big enough they would want to play on that side all the time. It was the part I wondered about when we took him. I'd be interested in the perspective of anyone who knows more about that then I do.

Orakpo will play on the left, and should do fine. He's bigger and stronger than Carter, so there's no sense moving Carter to left from right. They could move Carter to Lb, put orakpo on the right and rotate Daniels/Wynn at left DE.

I did see that Orakpo played some LDE in his highlight vids, but it was mostly from the RDE spot. Didn't Carter play some LDE at San Fran? I guess it really will just come down to who has the better moves from the left side. Or like Brad said, maybe they will pull some sort of rotation thing where Carter and/or Rak float up to LB.

Carter played LOLB in a 3-4, after they switched to it. He played DE before that, I'm not sure which side. I would guess right.

"Exactly. It is all about the packages that I can bring to the table. Like I said, I talked with Coach Kirk Olivadotti, the linebacker coach, he really likes me, sees me as a SAM backer first and second and then it's time to get after it, third and long or whatever the situation is. Get down in the stance and rush the pass and do what I do best.

If he's on the strong side playing LB on 1st & 2nd and putting his hand on the ground on 3rd it sounds like he'll be playing LDE

There's a lot of picks available for those who are willing to move back in the draft. I think you'll see Vinny start that in the late rounds. He said he wants to trade down for more picks.

Vinny needs to trade into the 4th and take an OT.

ttit traded back. the giants just have a crapload and they've all been early. I have no idea how they got all of them.

Love the Orakpo pick. The Barnes pick is terrible imo though. We need an outside linebacker and significant help on the offensive, not another defensive back. Obviously this means that the team has little faith in last year's 4th round pick.

How could you possibly think it's a terrible pick. He's one of the smartest players in the draft, lots of maturity (he was like another coach on the field for Maryland according to reports), he's obviously a hard hitter, has excellent ball skills. His only flaw it seems is playing the run... and he's in the mix for nickleback! So who cares how he plays the run?

Well unless he can learn how to pass protect by the time the season starts it's not a smart move. It's not a knock on him as a player, it's a knock on the decision to draft a cb. The secondary is one part of the team where we actually have some decent depth. We still have a huge hole at linebacker and we have done almost nothing to improve the offensive line. Our offensive line is still as terrible today as it was last year and we draft a cb??

I am thinking that the quality of the offensive lineman out there are not worth a 3rd or 4th round grade. No one has been selected in a long while for the o-line.

Yea, and its not there like were no OT's out there. There were 2 or 3 decent ones. They throw Heyer out there and he wasn't even drafted, so i know they have no problem playing a 3rd round OT.
