The attorney of Redskins' safety Sean Taylor said Monday that his client will file a not-guilty plea at an arraignment scheduled for Friday. "I sincerely believe that Taylor is innocent of the charges," attorney Edward Carhart told the Washington Post. The second-year pro is facing two felony charges of assault with a firearm and a misdemeanor count of simple battery for an incident that took place in Florida earlier this month.

Well, you didn't really think Taylor's attorney would tell the media that he thinks his client is guilty, did you? The Skins are taking precautions just in case Taylor misses playing time this season. In addition to signing free agent safety Tony Dixon over the weekend, team officials have also expressed interest in safety Lance Schulters, who was released by the Titans last week.

If it were Spurrier, then, yeah, he would not sit. However, Joe is big on character. Sean's conduct (unrelated to the contract) has been detrimental to the organization. If he sat for a DUI, of which he was not convicted, he will certainly ride the pine for this matter, which is more serious in its nature.

It's for Sean's good in the long run anyway. My 2 cents

Yeah...although I don't want Sean to be put out of games...he has to be punnished some how. Maybe we should allow him to play during all of pre-season! :lol:

So is june 24th the dte where we know if he is being convicted or not, and if he isn't convicted what happens does he show up finally?

The arraignment is Friday at this time Taylor will answer the charge made against him by the DA, if the DA brings charges. Taylors attorney seems to think that charges may not be filed. If no charges are filed then that's it.
If charges are filed, Taylor will plead not-guilty and a court date should be set. A conviction won't come until after the trial, if then. AT that point the NFL/Redskins will look at dealing with Sean

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor yesterday gave a voluntary statement through an interview with the Miami-Dade state attorney's office, accompanied by his attorney, Edward Carhart . Taylor gave the statement in hopes that prosecutor Mike Grieco will drop two felony charges of assault with a firearm and a misdemeanor count of simple battery before Friday's scheduled arraignment, Carhart said.

Grieco, who asked Taylor questions during the unrecorded one-hour session, is overseeing the pre-filing conference during which prosecutors gather information before deciding whether there is sufficient evidence to pursue their case.
Sean Taylor's defense attorney says his client will file a not-guilty plea for Friday's scheduled arraignment.

Ed Griffith , a spokesman for Grieco, said Taylor's arraignment Friday at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building in Miami would take only a few minutes. Carhart and Taylor aren't expected at the arraignment; Carhart said this week he would file a written not-guilty plea on behalf of Taylor.

Carhart wouldn't disclose the specifics of yesterday's interview session, but said that Taylor told prosecutors he didn't have a gun during the June 1 incident, as police have charged.

I know Gregg Williams is still one of his fans BUT I am convinced the Skins are getting ready to play without him if it came to it. He has already kissed goodbye any chance to have a new contract, not that the Skins were remotely considering giving him one ... :roll:

Joe Gibbs will give him a chance this season. He better play as we suspect he is capable of or else ... ](*,)

I think that the contract "issue" was due to the inclusion of making the Pro Bowl the first 5 seasons and as he did not make it this "incentive" was not available. I guess he felt it was a "bad" deal - for him.

I think that Sean will find out how to "work" with Greg and Joe and hopefully very soon.

These guys now have the ability to take away playing time and might just do that to make their point. However, I do not think that Joe or Greg will do anything just to make a point - these guys are very good coaches and they will figure out the best move for the team and Sean.

No matter what happens with ST's legal situation, there will still be a price to be payed for:

1. refusing to respond to Coach Gibbs phone calls, and
2. placing himself in a situation in which the organization is embarrassed. Gibbs #1 Rule... do nothing that brings shame onto the organization. Whether ST did or did not behave in a criminal way has no bearing... he put himself into this difficult situation.

I have no doubt that Sean is going to sit some.

Possibly but even if it does not go that far, there will be consequences at Training Camp and the preseason. Somewhere, somehow, the coaches will give him something. In fact, they already have recruited enough people to try them during the preseason. So, he may not see much game time in preseason. Who knows after that.

Stop posting in this thread! Sean Taylor doesn't deserve the attention...Think about it for a second.....

This thread shouldn't even be in HogWash because Taylor hasn't even associated with the Redskins all offseason.....So stop givin' him all the attention....That's frikken sad....When the most popular thread is a Sean Taylor thread, when that Motherfather wasn't even with the team all this time....The motherfuther doesn't even care about the team...so y care about him?....

Redskins' Taylor Could Face Charges Today

Friday, June 24, 2005; Page E02

The Miami-Dade state attorney's office has concluded its investigation into the two felony counts of aggravated assault and one misdemeanor count of simple battery against Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor and is expected to make a decision on whether to file charges this morning.

State prosecutor Mike Grieco , who oversaw the pre-filing conference, will announce the state attorney's decision at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building in Miami.

At an arraignment yesterday, Grieco filed one charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon -- a bat -- against Taylor's co-defendant, Charles Elwood Caughman , 19, of Baltimore. Police have said that on June 1, Taylor drove his sports utility vehicle, with Caughman inside, and with several other friends trailing in another car, into a Miami neighborhood to settle a dispute over the NFL player's two stolen all-terrain vehicles.

According to police reports, Taylor got out of the car and pointed a gun at two people and demanded the return of his ATVs. No shots were fired but Taylor returned shortly thereafter with more friends, police said. The second time, Taylor hit one person with his fist during a scuffle, the report said, while Caughman chased the second victim with a bat.

On Wednesday, Taylor -- accompanied by defense lawyer Edward Carhart -- gave a voluntary statement to the state attorney's office during an interview that lasted approximately one hour. Taylor acknowledged a confrontation, Carhart said, but disputed that he possessed a gun or his co-defendant had a bat.

According to officials from both sides who requested anonymity, Taylor has submitted to the state attorney a passed lie-detector test, which was conducted by a private polygraphist.

Carhart said he has filed a written not-guilty plea the court will announce, if necessary. . . .

The bit that sticks out for me is that the prosecutor has filed a charge against Taylor's mate for assault with a bat and that towards the end of the article, is says that Taylor denied having a gun or that his mate had a bat. So, if the prosecutor dosnt believe Taylor was telling the truth about the bat then it dont look like he's gonna believe the story about the gun either

"My buddy is Melvin Taylor who is a cousin of Sean's. Seans lawyer has submitted lie detector test results as well as witnesses saying Sean did not have a gun at all. He passed all tests. He tells me that he has never seen a deal like this go to trial. There is too much evidence against the victims story. Also one of the victims friends who was at the scene failed the lie detector test and the victim himself did not submit to one. Taylor is free trust me! I just hope this scared him enough to settle down a little bit."
