Whatever slim hopes the Skins had for a playoff berth probably died yesterday. So the objective going forward should be to to coach the team up and develop some winning habits for the future. Find out who can play and who should be a part going forward.
Cousins needs to stop playing disparate during the remainder of his starts this season. The restrained guy that played well against Philly and Seattle can be developed into a starter but the interception machine that showed up late yesterday and against the Giants has no business starting for an NFL team. If Kirk can't get himself under control there isn't much point in the Skins developing him. I think the Skins should tell Kirk another meltdown and McCoy moves ahead.

hanburgerheel wrote:How about start Cousins and trade Griffin for some better O-linemen? Those of us who are in full "Griffin-Will-Fail" awareness are a lot more open to the actual potential of the team, rather than wishful thinking.
I don't think Cousins will ever be Tom Brady, but I KNOW that Griffin will never be Russel Wilson. Cousins will get closer to his mark than Griffin ever will. Griffin has already met his potential and peaked. The sooner everyone (fans, coaches, staff, owner, and Griffin himself), the sooner we go forward instead of spinning wheels. With Cousins, I'm not sure of how far he can go. With Griffin, I am absolutely positive how far he will go! It's nothing against him personally, he's just not the NFL QB that is required for a winning franchise. In fairness, he never was! Griffin was a gimmick from the start.
Hmmm. So Cousins will get closer to the Tom Brady mark than Griffin ever will, eh? I'm assuming you were talking about Brady's career interception numbers.
I'm looking forward to more informed opinions on the quality of RGIII from the crowd who have been telling us all along that Cousins was the better QB.

Start Kirk Cousins & Try to Make Playoffs?

The same argument is going to be applied to people screaming for Cousins in 2013...when/if Griffin is re-inserted into the lineup, this team is not going to magically become better.

yes, but the QB play will be magically better. No telling what impact that will have on the team.

Jay Gruden, any thoughts?
As soon as Robert Griffin III receives clearance from the Redskins’ medical staff and proves to the coaching staff that he’s ready, he’ll be reinstalled as the starting quarterback, Coach Jay Gruden said Wednesday.

OldSchool wrote:Cousins floated a throw off his back foot for a pick but came back strong after that and he really looks comfortable in Gruden's offense. He continues to flash enough command and decisiveness in the pocket to make me wonder how things would look if he got the starting reps with the 2014 receiving corps, Cousins probably has a higher ceiling in Gruden's offense than Griffin. The offensive line and protections look much better when Cousins plays because he knows what he is doing and releases it quicker. I don't want to hear about poor protection as an excuse for Griffin's failure to process and release quickly.

Cousins is a turnover machine that doesn't even qualify as a game manager at this point, yet you believe him to be "better in Gruden's offense" Probably best to see what Griffin's record is when he comes back from injury (again) vs. Cousins' record never having had to deal with any injuries at all, just studying film (which has clearly helped him not turn the ball over). To wit,
Kirk Cousins, meantime, has gone 0-4 as Griffin’s replacement and leads the league in interceptions with eight.
I'd like to point out that in leading the league in interceptions, Cousins has played in 1.25 less games than the other starting QBs in the league.
OldSchool wrote:I think any football coach just reviewing the body of work this season would pick Cousins over Griffin. I thnk if it was really Gruden's option he'd bench Griffin and play Cousins, but I don't think Gruden is free to make that decision. When Griffin starts in Houston over Cousins it will not be because Gruden thinks Griffin runs his offense better or offers the Skins a better chance of winning in Houston because Cousins is performing significantly better now, it's not close. Griffin will start in Houston because the Redskins ownership is not ready to let the Griffin dream die yet.
At this point choosing Griffin over Cousins require willfully refusing to see the obvious because the glittering RGIII dream is so intoxicating they refuse to put down the 2012 Griffin crack pipe. . .
Jay Gruden, any thoughts?
Once they say he’s healthy and he practices with us and we feel like he’s ready to go mentally and we have a good game plan for him, then he’ll be the starter,” Gruden said at Redskins Park

that first observation was spot on and Cousins is making the choice easy ...
most are hoping they don't rush Griffin back because of the hole that Cousins has helped make here these past 5 games

Maybe the OP meant start Cousins, then let someone else take over before he starts throwing INTs.
