Uh, HELLO? It's the complete OPPOSITE!! We have him by the short and curlys. His value as a players and leverage for contract re-negotiations have dropped DRAMATICALLY over the last week, plus he's signed for a few years. We OWN him!!!
I completely disagree. Yeah, we have the leverage in contract renegotiations now. But were we really going to redo a 2nd year players contract anyway? I highly doubt it.
Overall, Taylor is in the position of power. He shows no respect for authority. He doesn't return the head coach's calls. He gets arrested. He skips workouts. He's not even in the same state as his teammates!!! But what can we do about it? Nothing. The bottom line is that he is too talented a player for us to get rid of, no matter what kind of stuff he pulls. Do you think the team would put up with this kindof crap from Andre Lott?? He'd have been cut weeks ago.
Taylor has all the control here. He's an extremely valuable commodity, and he knows it. We need him out there on the field. He doesn't need us. If we cut him, someone else would immediately sign him and insert him into their starting lineup.
I'm not sure I understand your position on him having control. What control does he have? The only thing he can control is if he plays football in the NFL. All players have that control though and that is news to nobody. Sean is very talented, we all know that. That's why everyone is pissed at him for being ricky junior. But, Gibbs is in control of Sean Taylor. I very highly doubt Sean will play in the first game. Gibbs will teach Sean how to be a player on a Joe Gibbs team or he won't play.
Joe got rid of Coles and Gardner because of how they acted and what they represented. In doing that, he took a huge hit to his ability to mold this team quickly because of the cap hit from Coles. He did that as a message and also because he believes you can't win with players like that on the team. It kills team chemistry and team confidence. You think Sean Taylor is in control here? Sean Taylor is as helpless as Joe Gibbs decides to make him. If Gibbs says, I want Sean to sit at home in Miami for the next 2 years to grow up, Snyder will say, whatever you think is best Joe.
If Taylor doesn't go to court over this thing before the season, I figure he'll be in camp, probably sit out game 1 for not returning Joe's calls thereby embarrassing the team(and unofficially, for not coming to the voluntaries) and then be a good citizen for the year. Next year is anyone's guess though.
