With 8 compensatory picks at the end of the 5th round, the Seahawks' 5th round pick is more valuable than I thought. Sheesh.

I had hoped our much maligned OL would be addressed with this draft and the #1 pick should be a great addition but then we waited a few rounds for the guard I think we desperately need. When they traded down for more picks I was expecting to get a guard in the fold before scatter gunning the late round picks. I hope the Bama guy is a starter not a project. I hope we are happy with our guys but I'm a little crestfallen after getting really excited when Scot ushered in a new era picking Scherff like cannon shot it was so expected.

Oldschool, just be patient, you just arent gonna pick up 4 starters in a draft. Thatll take a couple more years. Scot goes with the player on the top of his board regardless of position. Filling holes can take years that way, but it ensures that 5 years from now the number of holes you have is VERY limited.
You have no idea where he was on the Redskins board.RG3peat wrote:Prowl33 wrote:OldSchool wrote:Loved the #1 understood the #2 pick and it went down hill for me then. You cant say Brandon was higher on the board then Williams

I hope he cracks the 53 man roster.
Our past tall WRs have been busts or non-productive: Hankerson, Devin Thomas, who else...?
We could use another Art Monk...!!! (we all wish)

I was kind of confused by his stats at first glance, it looked like he wasn't a starter. But then I read this article.

BPA is very much scheme based.

YOUR KIDDING RIGHT???? 6'5" 302 not a scheme fit but was taken by the Jets that run a 3-4......maybe Bowles will go to a 4-3 now....BUT regardless not to small for DE in a 3-4

Dont know why I thought he was more 290. Still thrivingin a 4-3 as a DE vs playing as a 3-4 DE. In the 4-3 you are getting around the edge, in a 3-4 you are splitting the tackle and the guard. It wasnt as much of a lock as him to be dominant here as you think. Plus just because the jets drafted him for a 3-4 doesnt mean they were right.
Scherff was the right choice. If he could play well on the left side, he should do even better on the right side.

According to reports, Scot had Scherff above Williams on his board, so in his expert opinion Williams was NOT the best player in the draft. Not even top 3, btw. Just sayin'.

And let's be honest about this. When people say they're disappointed in these late round draft picks, they're basically saying either SM didn't take guys that they knew or guys that didn't match up to Mel Kiper's draft board.
My response to that is that we all applauded bringing in McGloughan. The guy clearly drafted according to his plan. So why don't we give him the benefit of the doubt and see how his draft picks pan out?
If we just want to see the team pick name guys or follow ESPN's big board, we might as well leave the drafting up to Danny and Bruce.

Exactly. I don't know why people keep arguing that Williams was the best player in the draft. The Jags went defense and took Dante Fowler over him. The Raiders could have used him, took Amari Cooper instead.
There's no question Williams is a beast. Maybe he will prove to have been the best guy this year, but just because Kiper or McShay say he was the best guy doesn't mean he was. If you don't get that, then I highly encourage you to read the "experts" opinion on the best player available in the 2007 draft:
"JaMarcus Russell is going to immediately energize that Raider nation. That fanbase, that football team, on the practice field, in that locker room."
"Three years from now you could be looking at a guy who's one of the elite, top five quarterbacks in this league."
"The skill level he has is certainly John Elway like."
- Mel Kiper. LMFAO.
