Actually, Maddox started and got hurt. Otherwise, the steelers would also be undefeated

Where's Jeff George, anyway ?
He is probably fishing with Gus Frerotte and Heath Shuler. Hopefully they have an extra rod ready for Brad Johnson

Oh, I got a "Rod" they can take with them, but he's not a quarterback, except on option plays.

What a fabulous post, derse131. Great examples as to why you would feel that way. It's a pleasure to read such brilliance.

For all the bad things we can say about Brunell, he is a man of integrity and courage. If he knows he can not do the job, Joe will know.
Mark will know what to do if things do not work out with him in DC

that may be true, but NO qb ever wants to give up his job...
Gibbs knows Brunell aint getting it done. For his own reasons, he's leaving Brunell in for now. When the time comes, he will make a switch. Brunell will back PRam up next season, and probably the year after that too. I seriously doubt we would cut him and take the cap hit. Of course, Brunell may decide to retire early as well...

I applaud those in this thread who have noted Brunell's character as part of "the mystery" surrounding the security of his position as strarting QB. Here's a man with "guaranteed" millions of dollars, who could easily succumb to the pressure of the fans and media calling for his head and criticizing his every last move.
Last year several high-priced guys failed to "show up" even though they had the lucrative incentive to "fullfill their contractual oblïgation". We as fans complained an moaned about it. The coaches were unable to do anything about it, because today's salary structure favors the player, even if he doesn't play.
Brunell could easily give up his position as the starter since he is obviously struggling, and several fans are calling for his head. However, he made a commitment to Joe, and vice versa, that he would help build this team to fit Joe's coaching style, and rebuild our storied franchise. He is honoring that agreement, and Joe is as well.
Now, this chapter, so far has been far from spectacular, but you can definitely se how this team's character HAS cchanged. Special teams are coming around, you can't say enough about our defense, and our running game is showing signs of life.
Until Joe says "let's begin Chapter 2" with Patrick, Brunell is his QB, perhaps not the fans' choice, but his own. He will find the way to win.

First, Gibbs has not given up on the season. If he switches QBs now he is telling the team it's over for this year.
Second, I believe Gibbs likes Ramsey and wants him to learn how to make as few mistakes as possible. He knows Ramsay is a better passer, but Ramsey must learn NOT to make poorly thought out passes. There is a discipline Ramsey must learn.
Third, if the Skins are eliminated from the playoffs you will see Ramsey play.

The question is.. Is Brunell gonna be back next year?

by tcwest10
Yeah, so...why don't you answer the question instead of repeating it for a counted post ?
Look. It goes like this.
Brunell will most likely be back next year, but as backup. We have too much money tied up in him to simply let him walk, and nobody is going to sign him and give us cap relief. He'll be in the system a year at that point, and will likely become the highest paid clipboard holder in the league.
See ? That's what you're supposed to do.

Dude, I wasn't trying to get a "counted post". What's the point anyway? Who cares how many posts someone has? I just wanted to know if Marky would be back next year, thats's all bro.

THE RAM wrote:Simple question, With Gibbs loyalty to Brunell, will the worst passer in the NFL right now be here next year? or will Gibbs give Ramsey a true chance to win?
This was the post that started this thread.... next rhing to do is give our opinion and a reason for that opinion..... Like ...
Brunell has one year left on that gift of a contract. He'll be cut June 2006....That's my Opinion
He will not be released or traded after this season because of the cap hit we would take plus who would trade for him. By waiting until June 06 there will be less impact on the salary cap and that to can be spread out over the 06 and 07 seasons.....That is the reason for my opinion
SkinsLaVar wrote:The question is.. Is Brunell gonna be back next year?
For you to post this on page 4 of a thread asking if Burnell will be back next year.... well sure looks like padding to me but that's just my opinion

Gibbs is not going to change QB's during the season, that should be a last resort option in the NFL...but it would be nice to have Brunell back up Ramsey next season.

Since Brunell won't be cut for cap reasons, then do u think Gibbs will have him tutor Ramsey next season; since Mark's been so successful in picking up Gibbs' offense?

Ramsey will play this year under one condition. That condition is when/if Brunell gats hurt. That's the only time Ramsey has played thus far, if Ramsey had won the Gints game he still would have returned to the bench once Brunell had healed.
Gibbs has said
.... Brunell won the job in the pre-season.
.... Brunell gives us the best chance to win.
.... He will always play to win regardless of W-L record,so if we are elimanated from the playoffs he still won't make the switch
.... Brunell plays smarter is a more moblie QB and makes less mistakes.
.... When he hears the fans chanting RAM-SEY he feels gosh we have some Great fans, so public opiniom makes no difference.
Brunell should see the writing on the wall and will help develop Ramsey during the offseason and through next year. He really didn't do that here in Jacksonville but he wasn't given the oppertunity.

I think you may be close, 1 niksder, but Joe seems to be firm in his "plan" for the team. There are a couple of mysteries (Mark & D McCants) but Joe has been there done that and I for one will let this thing play out.
I feel that if we continue to improve (we are getting better!) he has earned that from the fans as well and a lot of our very enthused (sometimes impatient) fans will give him a break and not make predictions (sometimes ridiculous)for our team let alone who could be doing better!!
Brunell has shown that he is a very good QB and his experience and leadership (next year or sooner) can only help our team and our QBs.

but gibbs has never been a GM, and the team isn't really getting any better overall. the defense has always been great, and now the running game and special teams are doing really well- but the passing game has gotten steadily worse throughout the season. the overall net effect is that we have the same odds of winning a game as we did earlier.
additionally, i will have to slit my wrists if i see brunell hobble out to the huddle with his walker next year. MAKE HIM GO AWAY NOW!

Ramsey won't be here? sure he will unless someone puts more money on the table, Gibbs said he's the future and unless Ramsey wants out he'll be here, Gibbs word is good with his players, unless he's changed which he hasn't.

If he wants out he should have signed a shorter contract because his contract says he'll be a Redskin next year and in 06

I think it is time to look at Brunells contract and adjust it to fit the needs of the team.
