Driving drunk has nothing to do with youth. And how is driving drunk not worse than selling crack? At least if you are selling crack you are selling it to people willingly involved in the activity. Drunk driving can cost the life an innocent person, just ask Leonard Little.

ASHBURN, Va. - Washington Redskins rookie Sean Taylor was arrested early Wednesday on charges of driving under the influence and refusing a breathalyzer test, the latest setback in a tumultuous year for the No. 5 overall draft pick.
Taylor was pulled over by a Virginia state trooper at about 2:45 a.m. EDT, on Washington's Interstate 495 beltway. The officer suspected Taylor had been drinking, and Taylor then flunked some field sobriety tests, according to Virginia State Police Lt. Harry Newlin.
Taylor was detained and later released on an unsecured bond, pending a future court date. He was not on the field when the Redskins began practice at noon. A team spokesman said coach Joe Gibbs would address the matter following the workout.
The former University of Miami safety has made headlines for all the wrong reasons since the Redskins selected him in April.
Taylor left the NFL's mandatory rookie symposium early and was fined $25,000. He showed up at his first minicamp wearing shorts that were so baggy that they kept falling to his knees. His vision was impaired temporarily at a later minicamp when a pile of shaving gel was squirted into his face by linebacker LaVar Arrington in a wayward prank.
Taylor also fired his agent within days of the draft, and his contract negotiations were delayed because he took so long to hire a new one. When he finally found an agent, he signed a seven-year, $18-million deal. He then fired the agent and rehired his original one. He also boycotted the media for a few weeks.
On the field, Taylor made a strong impression in exhibition games with three interceptions, but he was unable to work his way into the opening day starting lineup. He played sparingly in his first game, but he was a starter at free safety by Week 3 and had his first interception and first sack the Redskins' last game, a 13-10 victory over Chicago before the bye week.

Driving under the influce of alcohol is one of the worst crimes there is. If he was involved in an accident that resulted in someones death, he could be charged with vehicular homicide. Sean Taylor should consider himself lucky that ALL he got was arrested and charged with DUI. He put the lives of himself, and others in jeapordy. He should personally thank the State Trooper for pulling him over and arresting him, thus preventing him from getting behind the wheel of a car and jeapordizing his life, and the lives of innocent people.

HAHHAHAHAHA! lets bag on Irvin, funny thing you never want us bringing up the past of the 90's and three super bowls, but ya'll sure don't hesitate to bring up a Coke reference from the 90's!
Maybe this is why the guy scored a 10 on his Wonderlic? Not too smart in my book!
Driving Drunk could have been a huge deal, look at what it got Dwayne Goodrich a few years back! He's lucky he only got a DUI, unfortunately the NFL will do nothing for this but suspend a guy for taking Ephedrine. Go figure?

Well, he won't have to worry about it for another year or so. I'm pretty sure refusal to take the breathalizer will result in an automatic 1 year suspension of driving privledges.

I thought you weren't required to take a field breathalizer? It's not official anyway.
You refuse, and then they take you to the station and you take it there, or something.
I believe you don't have to do the "field sobriety test" either.

You people are amazing.
None of you have any idea what happened or what is happening.
You don't know what he BA was, whether he had 2 beers or 2 cases at a bar or at his buddy's house. 2 beers boys and girls and your DUI. I'm also sure none of you Mormons have ever had a drink before or ever tailgated at a game then drove home later. Comparing crack and alcohol is being stupid. I'm not making any judgements on what he did because I wasn't there or know the facts. I do know that as of July, DUI is now a felony.

I'm not Mormon, but I've never, ever, driven under the influence. It's just a risk I'm not willing to take.

Well cvillehog you are the minority. Like I said earlier we all make dumb decisions when we are young. Some of us got out easy without getting caught. But if you have never in your life broken a law you are definitely not the norm. I have done it, I'm not proud. I've matured and will never do it again. I got lucky and I know that. No lectures please. Taylor will learn his lesson. Luckily it cost him nothing more then a legal matter and a bunch of "fans" harsh words and disappointments.

So I take it you've never drank anywhere but at home if at all. If you have a couple beers that means you can't drive at all for several hours. Or you have some great friends that haul you all over the place.

... Not really mad that he got a DUI, cause he might get off (like Bruce Smith did TWICE).
But I am mad that he is out in the middle of the night FOLLOWING a bye week. He already had a whole week off to party. Gibbs even gave the team 4 days off (which is more than other teams on bye weeks).
The Redskins have a very important game on Sunday where the Redskins defensive backs will be tested by Favre....and this kid is out all night the day before "Game Plan Practice" (done every Thursday).
For those that care, a grown man that weighs 220 lbs can drink either 4 beers,4 shots,or 4 glasses of wine WITH food and remain UNDER the legal limit...but the 5th drink puts you over.
If you are 200 pounds then you can have 3 drinks and the 4th puts you over, etc.
Trust me, I know.
If Taylor refused a breath test/blood test then he has a better chance of getting off at trial. However, if you refuse the test your drivers license is automatically suspended for 1 year in Virginia. The bad news is, earlier this year Virginia increased the punishment for DUI...part of the Strike Force 1 campaign.
So, for the next year Sean Taylor will need to roll to practice in Portis' ride:

Just like you said, only at home, wait several hours, or get driven around. Acutally, I'm not much of a drinker, so I tend to be the DD.
Now, I've of course broken other laws. There are so many it'd be hard not to!

I've heard from a friends brother who is a cop (I know, this doesn't sound to good so far) said that the punishment for refusing to take a field sobriety test is less then failing for a DWI.
