That appears to be the name they're going for as of now. It's leading the "Name the team" poll in baseballindc.com.

You folks in DC better get in touch with your City Council. The crap I heard on the radio was extremely negative from one City Councilwoman. It's a huge boost to the City, employment and tax base. The benefit will far outweight the costs, stadium etc... If they can fit RFK, I think people would love to go back there. Call or email your City Council rep, even if they're not your rep. Baseball in DC is good for the City, the surrounding area and the nation... not that I have an opinion or anything :0)

Problem with naming them the Senators is that the Texas Rangers (the Bob Short debacle Senators) still own the rights, so along with buying the team the new owners would also have to buy the rights to the name. They should just come up with a new name. It will be in Anacostia, so how about the Washington Drive-Bys or the Washington Crackheads.

As far as the councilwoman is concerned, I believe that not all of the council is in favor , however they have secured enough of the council to make it happen as long as they do so before the three new council members take office in January.

Look for all I care they could call them The Senators or The Fluffermutters.... I could care less what they are actually called... I agree that Senators is bland. There was some more interesting ideas on the radio. And as of now the mayor is saying he doesn't want Senators. His motivation is political but that doesn't change the fact that he's against it.

The council needs 7 out of 13 votes to pass it through. Right now, they have at least 7 but it will be close. However, I think it will go through. I think they should go with the Grays, after the African American team back in the day. It would be a marketable name outside the area as well as in chocolate city. I like that or the Nationals.

Thats fine and dandy, but these roads cant handle what we have in place now. Besides people are inspired by watching TV and reading books.

INMO Baseball sucks. I hate it. I wish they would go on strike forever, that way I can watch sportsCenter in peace.

DC will dread the day baseball comes to this here area. The public complains now on potential traffic when a Dairy cream shop goes up. Just wait to afternoon baseball enters our lives.

I can't believed that people want to name it the Washington Monuments..

In that case, call it done. Washington Canaries.

Why? The Expos are notorious for horrible play (besides 1994). We need either a new identity or the "Senators".

RSC, I know how you feel when it comes to Sportscenter. If the Senators had never left DC, my dad might still be a baseball fan to this day--which means I might be one as well. I'm glad I'm not, frankly.

I would love to see them called the Senators, but I think that BTP has a point. What if we called them the BTP's and you designed the unis, man? Now that's some baseball that even I'd watch.

(on a side note, I'm here in MI for school, living with a couple of guys from Chicago, and it's been almost entertaining to watch them lament the Cubs recent failures.)
