One commentator I really don't mind, becuase lets face it they are all annoying, is Tim Green. He is a former player, and he also is a author. I recommend 'Dark Side of the Game'. Its a pretty good book. I also agree that Aikman isn't all that bad (he must thank LaVar for making him quit earlier).
On the other hand I can't stand joe T. Even tho he is a former Skin, he is just horrible. He reminds of Bill Walton...

After this weekend I'm convinced the US government needs to hire Aikman as a diplomat.
Tardo announcer: Hey Troy, what do you think of htis hit that caused you brain damage?
Troy: I'd love to rip your throat out right now, but I'll play it cool and stomp on your nads during the commercial.
Tardo announcer: Ha ha, look at that guy rubbing your head on the sideline.
Troy: Your nads are so dead, but I'll still wait until the commercial break.

I got your number. I steal your thunder. I got your mother's maiden name tattooed on my arm.
Every time Troy does a 'Skins game they bring up the Arrington hit that ended his career. I would think it's starting to get old for him, but he takes it really well, and it's always fun to see a 'Skin slamming a 'Pie into the turf.

I've always liked Madden, but maybe that's because I've read his (early) books and I know that he's got a ton of knowledge. The more time has gone by, the more he's resorted to the 'booms' and 'bams' and gimmicks rather than good analysis.
Collinsworthless is just that.
My opinion is that American football announcers talk too much, anyway. They ride waves of momentum so much--as soon as it looks like someone is going to break a run they're already yelling into the mic. 90% of the time, the guy gets nailed just as the announcer raises his voice. Then they feel like they have to spew as much out as possible in between any action. Give me a break.
I'd prefer to see a shift to a style of announcing that you find more in European (and esp. British) soccer announcers. They don't mind a bit of silence, they get excited when they should (only a few times a game, really), and best of all they don't exagerate or jump on bandwagons. How much does it annoy you guys when announcers (I'm looking in Collinsworth's direction here) jump on bandwagons and completely dog a team? And then how satisfying is it when the underdog takes over? Of course, usually right about that time Collinsworth has hitched a ride on that one. . .
I really like Troy Aikman, and in the FOX studio I think that Howie Long is still quite good. But nobody will ever beat Sonny and Sam (and Frank).
Absolutely! Pat and John used to be great, but then they got too old and would miss big parts of the game while rambling on with some stupid anecdote. Collinsworth is always on the side that's winning. He can be just all over a team that is getting beat in the first half, and then turn around in the second half and sound as if he is their biggest supporter. That guy is a freaking moron.

None of you actually care about whether or not a guy is a good announcer, you just hate everyone who says anything remotely negative about the Redskins, and love anyone who says anything positive. I bet you guys wouldn't have anything but good things to say about Osama bin Laden if he picked the Redskins to win the Super Bowl.
We can be biased because we are fans. Collinsworth is PAID to be an impartial announcer. He should comment on what happens during the game and keep His "feelings" about whoever to Himself.
I happen to like the ESPN Sunday night crew the best, that's with Mike Patrick, I also like Aikman and Johnson. Al Micheals might be the best play by play guy in the game.
Oh yeah if Osama bin Laden picked the Redskin's to win the SB, I would say "He knows His football." And then put a bullet in His turban.

"I never apologize. I'm sorry but that's just the way I am."
I like Al Micheals, Joe Buck, and Aikman
I hate colinsworth the most followed by who ever did the cbs games for the skins last year. I don't know who it was but they were just bad. CBS broadcasts in general remind me of a bad college broadcast, poor camera angles, missing plays because of showing a replay and mundane announcers. God I hate CBS

Hm... John Madden should write articles, I thinki. The man truely knows more about football than any other person ever to live and probably has forgotten more about football than any of us will ever know, but John Madden just has horrible announcing skills.

While I agree with all of you it was still PAINFUL to hear Summerall do the game.
Please Pat hang it UP!!
I am tired of you getting players and plays wrong. I only wished I could do what I use to do when I was a kid living in Bethesda and turn down the sound on the TV and turn on Sonny, Sam and Frank on WMAL.
AHHHH the good old days.
