Wait, wait, wait, wasn't there just a Portis Q&A on http://www.redskins.com. Wouldn't that have been a hot-topic if this was real. Theres no way that ESPN or anyone would miss this.

The Washington Post is reporting that it's a hoax! THANK GOD is all I can say. I guess some fans are a little intimidated by Clinton Portis to the point that they'll try and scare us.

How childish is that!!!

Sportsline has a hilarious retract on their site right now. This hoax has gotten out of control! What meant to be a prank, spread like wildfire. I blame the cicadas.

'SKINS SCRAMBLE TO REPLACE PORTIS?

For roughly five minutes on Thursday afternoon, CBS SportsLine.com was reporting that Redskins running back had suffered a serious injury while lifting weights. Now, the site has a full-blown retraction of the story, with all appropriate apologies.

"It was egregious and, frankly, unforgivable, and we apologize to our readers, Portis and to the Redskins for publishing the misinformation," says the mea culpa posting from managing editor Mark Swanson.

But we're picking up indications that the story might not be off the mark, and that there have been talks between the Bears and the Redskins about a possible trade for Bears running back Anthony Thomas.

The Bears, we're told, are trying to get a second-round pick or a receiver (possibly Rod Gardner, who supposedly was shopped to the Fins as part of the Adewale Ogunleye package last month).

Stay tuned on this. We're trying to figure out what's happening here.

PORTIS NOT HURT

We've just learned from a league source that Redskins running back Clinton Portis is not -- we repeat -- is not injured.

However, we've also learned that Bears G.M. Jerry Angelo learned of the erroneous CBS report that Portis had suffered a serious injury while lifting weights on Thursday, prompting Angelo to upgrade Bears running back Anthony Thomas from "questionable" to "probable" on the injury list -- and to call the Redskins with a specific trade offer involving the A-Train.

Bottom line -- Portis is okay, Angelo is pissed, and Thomas still is, and likely will be, a Bear.

So to get Thomas we were supposedly going to give up Portis and a 2nd round pick or WR? Is this a healthy Portis or injured Portis? My goodness, this has gone insane. I know its not real but to even post this on a site...well I gues stranger things have happened.

We keep CP and get A-Train for Gardner or a 2nd round pick
the Bears just want to dump Thomas for some reason

What I want to know is ...How was this "Breaking New" if it has been discussed here for almost 24 hours :?
