Come on! Tampa was 7-9 last year and are trending down, way down. If the Skins can't win this one we are in for a long season.
Gibbs is going to have these guys ready; the fans should be loud, the defense is going to be ultra aggressive (they MAY get burned deep once or twice, but I bet we get a turnover or FOUR!), and the offense has too many weapons to be shut down.
How can you say I think we're going to lose. There is no reason in the world to think that way. I'm going to say it; that is how a loser thinks. I would let it go if we were on the road against a solid team, but were not. I know we're just fans but come on!
Did you see Arrington when turned loose how he quick and strong he looked when smashing Vick on that blitz. I swear I thought LT's ghost was playing.
There should be nothing but optimism and positive thoughts, from the players and fans. Auuuugggghhh!!!!!
Wow, it's only Monday. Maybe I should go mow the yard or something.

I hope I'm wrong...I'll be rooting for the Skins as much as anyone and more then most (from what I saw last year). I'm just giving you my take on the game.
Using Lavar and LT in same sentence

I'd put Marcus Washington there before Lavar

Don't expect a blowout. TB may be old and slow, but they still have great coaches. Last year, they beat the Skins simply because they didn't make mistakes and the Skins did. this year, they are likely a less talented team and will most likely finish with a worse record than the Skins...but...the Skins will probably struggle offensively to start the game because TB is solid defensively. TB's O-line is better than last year, but their RBs are worse.
I don't expect many scores in the first half as the defenses are usually still ahead of the offenses at this time of the year (don't panic, Skins fans, if the offense sputters after a solid opening drive). I say 10-6, Skins, at the half. If the Bucs run the ball well, they could pull off the win. But, I think Gibbs' unveiling of the offense, and an energized D-line, prove to be the deciding factors, with the Skins winning 24-16.
But, please don't panic if the Skins lose this game! TB is a solid team. Don't forget, the Pats lost 31-0 to open the season last year. It's great to start 1-0, but it's not the end of the season if they start 0-1. I don't see Philly or Dallas posting 11 or 12 win seasons this year, so the division games will be the most important, as a 9-7 record could win the division.

I'm not questioning your devotion to the Skins. I just can't think that way.
And, yes the LT comparison is stretching it, but on that particular play (which I watched a few times), Lavar looked so big and quick, he looked like a man playing with boys.

Your right he is...No question....I believe Lavar is the most physically gifted LB in the game...what I believe he lacks is a desire to be the best...Look at Lewis and Brooks, not nearly as gifted as Lavar...but they're better LB's than Lavar (right now).
Anyhow back on thread … the Skins will have to play a great error free game to beat a still good Tampa Bay team. Gibbs does have the element of surprise working for him. Our LB's will have to play well against Gruden’s short game to the backs and TE’s….They killed us last year. I’m not as worried about Rice doing what he did last year…SS tried to block him with a RB?? We agree on one thing GO SKINS BEAT TB!!!!!

I have a good feeling about this one. Plus I must make it good for my 81 (art Monk) post:
Here are my two predictions:
1. Redskins 17 - Bucs 0
Under this scenario, we rattle Brad and his replacement early. We dominate in a tough battle. Portis gets his first 100-yard season but not by much. Our H-Back shines.
On defense, Washington, Arrington and Taylor are too much to handle for them... 2 fumbles, 1 interception.
2. Redskins 13 - Bucs 10
Close, slow-scoring, and hard-fought game! Defenses prevail but we win in the last two minutes by a field goal.
I have a very good feeling for the first prediction. But I know that reason dictates the second.

I've been scanning the TB boards and they seem to think that their screens to Gardner and Allstot will negate Williams' blitz packages. Also their 3 w/o sets will expose our CBs.

OK..I didn't know we get two predictions??
My second prediction is the Skins win by a TD 20-13...that about covers both sides of it...I like this

Alstott is still not all the way back, and I think he's a limited factor.
Who is the clear #1 WR in TB ? Galloway ? Hasn't played a good game since Seattle.

Tampa Bay will be a win. It will be the beggining of the streak that we will have this year. It will mark the start of the bandwagon of journalists that sad we were trash that will all of a sudden sing praises.
The defense will blitz often. The front four will hold their own. Sean Taylor will get one big hit, and an INT.
The line will look incredibly good. Portis will make us gasp and become giddy.

ey will show why he was worth a 3rd pick amd have better stats than Winslow. Rod Gardner WILL drop at least 2 passes. Coles will get a TD. Brunell won't throw any INT's.

Ok, I'll try.
Brick Hands will run a hook route. 5 yds, turn, pass is there, it is dropped. I'll be watching the game with my father and grandfather, I will curse Rod Gardner in my mind, my father will do it out loud.
Clinton Portis will break tackles in his 1st run from scrimmage. He'll surge into mass of players and gain 6 yards on his 1st run. Eventually he WILL break one and get over 30 yds for a run.
Tampa will try to stack the line like they did last year to no avail, this isn't a Spurrier scheme. The blitz will be picked up in stride, Coles will burn the CB in single coverage.
Rod Gardner drops another pass right before halftime.
3rd QTR. The master of mid game changes will bench Rod Gardner and McCants will be our #2 receiver, with Jacobs at #3. McCants sure hands will haul in a TD, Jacobs will give their nickel back a hard time. Too many good receivers, too much shifting at the line, and Portis in the backfiled will be too much for Tampa.
Brunell will be calm and sure footed, decisive, and intelligent with his handling of the ball.
Arrington will destroy brad johnson.
Bottle Rocket Ismail will get his socks blown off my Taylor, Smoot will be able to run step for step.
Bowen will finally unleash a satisfying/devastating hit on an opposing player making us forget about last years hit on Candidate as his best hit as a Redskin.
LESS THAN 3 PENALTIES!!!
John Hall will be a probowl kicker this season.

I try not to get too excited. The past few years I've gotten my hopes up only to be severly disappointed. I keep telling myself that this is Joe Gibss' team, and he isn't going into battle unprepared. I think the Skins will come out on opening day and squeeze out a win 17-10. Tampa's "D" should still be pretty good this year, but the offense won't be there. Their passing game is sub-par as well as their running game. I think the Skins "D" will be able to handle anything the Bucs can throw at them. As far aas the season goes, I think 10-6 is realistic.

Let's not take this Tampa Bay team for granted just because they're Sappless. Let's not forget what happened to the Patriots after they won the Supber Bowl. They went 9-7, only to come back and win it all again.

I was just wondering why anyone is gonna watch the
game if you think we are gonna lose? My unwavering
support for MY team will not allow me to think that
way. I sure hope none of the players on sunday think
like this!!!!!!!!!! repeat after me... Spurrier is gone!

I see it this way. First, the Skins are going to be a good solid fundamental football team this year. We may start a bit slowly, but we will play pretty error free right away. This is Gibbs people!!!!
The Bucs on the other hand, are much worse for wear than last year, and they were not very good last year. Their starting WRs are Tim Brown and Joey Galloway. I mean, come on people =) They have a very suspect OLine with very average RBs. Alstott is a goal line stud when healthy, but you gotta get to the goal line first.
The defense will still be pretty good, but don't think that Sapp and Lynch weren't huge losses for Tampa. Sapp may not be as dominating as advertised, but his leadership was huge.
Our much improved defense will deal with the Tampa offense much easier than Tampa's will deal with our offense. We have the better team, and with Gibbs back at the helm, that will make a difference most of the time in the result. Unlike most of the seasons that he's been gone.
I still say Skins win 34-13
