If a past-his-prime DE could come in late and still be the best guy in the rotation, then he would certainly do more good than harm, right?

It's a start. Can he do that on a consistent basis, though?

An Eagle fan from another board said that Douglas and the Eagles are negotiating a contract right now. I don't know if it's true.

It really depends. If nobody else on the line steps up he could get knocked out of every play by two or maybe even three blockers. Or he could play well enough to help win a few games during the season but be out of gas by the time the playoffs roll around.

Last I heard is Hugh is "playing the field."

shoot - if he could come in and give PD a breather when he needs it and still apply a little pressure I doubt he would run outta gas...

Upshaw could spell Wynn on the left

And you think douglas would require 2 blockers? The only reason douglas would be useful is to supply us with insight into that iggles d.

You don't need 2 blockers for Douglas, one buffet would do it.

I'm going to say it one more time, Douglas is done.

I know the Jags very well. I said all along, it would be Brunell, I'm telling you now Douglas stinks, and for what it's worth Stacey Mack would be a decent pick-up.

By Monday afternoon, four teams -- the Redskins, Eagles, Bears and Giants -- had already indicated interest in Douglas. Agent Drew Rosenhaus said he hoped to have his client signed to a new team by the end of the week.

Skins and Eagles Interested

Most Defenitely! Take him him if he its a real bargain. Therefore, its really a no lose situation. Let's not get crazy with the purse strings too loose and give him too much. He has a lot to prove that he's still a force and money should not be an object to him this season.

A friend of mine, an Eagles fans, insists that Douglas will definitely sign with the Eagles.

My gut is that Douglas will sign with the highest bidder. If it's a tie among the Redskins and another team(s), if I were Douglas, I'd like to play for Joe Gibbs.

Having Gibbs (not Spurrier) will definitely be a draw for some talent...as a financial tie-breaker, I think.

Again, there may not be a tiebreaker at all. One team might cough up a ton of money. I just hope it's not the Skins.

He's worth a look at this point. I think Daniels will be fine - but he could help in a rotation.

If there's four teams interested, he won't be signing for the league minimum. If we can't sign him for the minimum, I say pass.

jaw32 wrote:As a Jaguar fan (now my 2nd team-I go with Brunell) who watched all their games last year...Douglas stunk it up, he was invisible all year (except for his salary).

HE IS NOT WORTH IT NO MATTER HOW CHEAP YOU GET HIM.

He admitted coming in out of shape last year, he vowed to be ready this year. He has shown nothing in pre-season thus far.

He will just be a distraction and P-off the current players who are working hard.

I have to agree with jaw32 Hugh was the talk of the town when he got here...
High expectation of a dominate outside pass rush, but he was overweight,so the talk turned to "wait until he's in game shape"($6 mil signing= he should have been ready when he landed at JIA).
3.5 sacks? after all the hype what explained away by the obvious "I should have came into camp in better shape"
Hugh Douglas trashed the Jaguar Fans and the Jacksonville people a few weeks ago complaining about their lack of football knowledge...Definately NOT a Joe Gibbs Type of player.
I think he'll me more trouble than he is worth regardless of the price tag

I guess it works out for everyone then. You don't have to deal with that evil, cancerous Hugh Douglas (who's a cheap shot artist, just ask the Bears fans). Jacksonville gets some cap space back. Philly gets a pass rushing specialist and a quality depth guy that's loved by the fans and guys in the locker room.

No, no, no.
Please.
Don't dismiss a player who may be a wonderful "Mr. Right Now". Who cares about next year ? That's for the Bengals. I like the Gardener-like possibilities. Hugh Douglas, for the right money, is a stop-gap answer. Screw all this "future" stuff. Give me a guy who can help us get it done right now.
Let's get him in for a pysical. Williams is nobody's fool. He'll know right off if we have a workable thing here.

Another positive about signing him would of been keeping him away from the eagles.

The positive IS that he signed with the Eagles. Now you can double Kearse and one OL can handle Douglas.

Don't be too optimistic about that jaw32. I firmly believe that both Trotter and Douglas will play much much better in Philly than they did for the Skins and Jags. They're back "home" (in their minds) and they're back to the place where they made names for themselves.

Trotter might, if he manages to get back on the field after his torn rib cartilege problem. Hugh won't. I think that was more a case of him passing you guys up instead of the other way around.
