Just one thing,
Brunell will start the season, Ramsey will finish it and will guide the redskins to the playoffs, Brunell is to fragile and eventually he will not finish the season.

It will take Ramsey 1-2 years to unlearn Spurrier and learn Gibbs. I believe he will and I believe Gibbs when he says: "Ramsey will stay a Redskin"

If Gibbs didn't like Ramsey he would have been more than happy to trade him to Dallas for their first round pick and would be able to see him twice a year. Or Tampa Bay, Miami, he likes Ramsey its just after getting nailed all last year he thinks he needs physcological recovering. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. "Ramsey has a great future hear." Joe Gibbs

i think ramsey is a good qb. after last season he proved to be a good one after taking all those sacks. plus he came back from an injury. give him time he'll come through..

I'm guessing he IS jumpy...he was killed every game last year....give him time...he will be good. I don't think it will be this season but next year...well...all we can do is wait and see.

Gibbs said the same thing about Champ Bailey. It's a different era in sports today, players can force a trade as easy as the organization.

Does anyone remember last year the first five games when PRam played fantastically. I'm not ready to give up on him this season, and I hope Gibbs isn't either. The chances of Brunell making it through this season are slim, very slim. We are going to need PRam. I just hope he knows that forgets the head games with not starting openning game and plays football like he can.

Yeah and great point about Farve

Welcome to the board pjp5...glad to have you.
Yes I remember the first 5 game, I also remember the last 11.
Why do so many of you say Brunell won't make it through the season but say we have a great line??? Also if Brunell can't make it through what make you think Ramsey can?? Brunell is more mobile than Ramsey sad but true.

Bailey had a lot of value in the market. Today Ramsey has didily squat.

Whoa...
As are many, I'm a little taken aback by Ramsey's rough start. I'm not ready to throw in the towel, though. He's got a terrific arm, and he's going to learn what to look for downfield. Right now, he's not checking off...he's looking for the long ball, hoping to win the starting job with big, booming scores. He's also looking like he's sure he's gonna get killed back there. His faith in the O-Line has yet to develop. Can't say I blame him. Jansen was his tightest buddy, and he's gone for a while.
I do agree that he needs to unlearn Spurrier. I've said so many times. He's young, though, and has at least as long as Brunell can stay healthy to learn all that.
I say give him a break. Right now, his closest competition at QB is Hasselbeck.

Probably not a popular opinion here, but I've never been much of a Joe T fan. Probably mostly because I thought he played a couple years too long, and I'm not much of a fan of his TV commentary. That being said, Ramsey is the best QB we've had since JT.

He is obviously not performing to his capabilities right now. He's got happy feet, and he's not handling the competition very well menatally. Mark will get the start and play most of the season if not the whole season. Just depends on Marks durability.

It's just my opinion, but I see a whole lot of Favre in Ramsey. I wouldn't count on seeing Ramsey leave the Redskins any time soon. Gibbs knows what he has in that kid =)

Brunell's durability is questionable at best. Why you ask? He is 32 years young, and was injured or playing 2nd string last year. PRam is 24 or 25, did get injured last year, but was playing behind a lackluster O line in an archaic system. I spoke of the first 5 games because thats when ramsey wasn't hurt, he didn't play in the last 11 remember. Hasselback started the last 5 or so.

PRam is not playing up to snuff, there's no doubt about that. He is not dealing well mentally with the QB controversy, Jansen getting hurt, a new Coach, or unlearning Spurrier's system. That said, he should be the quarterback of the future.
Glad to be part of the chat...look forward to seeing you all at FedEx this year.

Welcome to the board pjp5

I don't remember P-Ram not playing in the last 11 games I do remember him missing the 5 that Hass started
Brunell had surgery last year (after game 3) and his starting job was giving to the Jags #1 pick he didnt lose his spot. If anything that means he has a year of rest and recouperation

correct. In effect, Ramsey played the first 10 games. He went out early in the 11th game, and Hass finished the season out.

And nobody really knows when Ramsey got hurt. He later said he thought it may have been in preseason. So he likely played the whole season hurt, and it got progressively worse. Pretty amazing playing as well as he did being hurt and in a very unfriendly QB system.

Just hold your horses and wait and see. Ramsey I believe still has quite a future with this franchise. Remember, during those Super Bowl years Stan Humphries and Mark Rypien were understudies before getting their shots. Humphries, if memory serves me correctly appeared in a Super Bowl with the Chargers later on. Just give the staff time to work with Ramsey.

Exactly right.

In fact, if you have the tape from SB 22 (Denver...Doug W., 5 TD's in the 2nd quarter...) you will see Mark Rypien in a white Redskins sweater holding the clipboard for Joe Gibbs, standing just beside him on every play.

That offseason, Bobby B traded Schroeder for Jim Lachey, and Rpyien wound up starting most of the year...I think Willimas had appendicitis just before the season.

Humphries had a mysterious injury the next year, his rookie season, and stood with Gibbs studying.

Unfortunately, Humphries did not learn Rypien's dedication, and Gibbs used Jeff Rutledge, weak-armed Alabama Jeff, as the cleanup man during the SB 26 season.

Specific issue with Humphries and Gibbs, as best I recall, was that Gibbs had told Humphries: you're number one, now study and prepare for next season. Humphries ignored the playbook, arrived at camp about 20 pounds overweight, and spent camp chasing after groupies.

Rypien worked out, studied hard, and led the Redskins to the SB win.

*

Humphries had talent, so Bobby B traded to get him to San Diego. Humphries later said, well, yes, I kind of wish I had behaved the way Coach Gibbs asked.

*

One conclusion: Ramsey still has control of his own future. If he responds, if he studies, if he is patient, if he shows Mark Rypien's toughness, he can be a starter eventually.

It might not be this September, but if he shows progress, if he shows Gibbs he can be trusted, he will have his chance.

*

I hope that Boss is correct: that the complaining was entirely from Ramsey's agent.

I'm with you, Welch. Good history lesson, BTW. I think Humphries ailment was some kind of thin blood thing, if I recall correctly.

I thought Brunell got hurt two years ago and missed that season from the injury. Then lost the QB battle last year. Correct me if I'm mistaken =)

Got hurt 2 years ago (2002) but didn't have surgery until last year (2003) when it was clear that the Jags wanted him to be replaced by Leftwich. He started every game but the last one (D.Garard) in 2002

I think Ramsey got just what he needed last night. He actually had a pocket form around him. He will do better next week....
