I have to believe that Gibbs told Brunell that he (Gibbs) fully expected him (Brunell) to win the job. At the same time, I believe Gibbs told Ramsey that he would have a fair shake at winning the job. Brunell wouldn't have come here if he thought that wasn't the case (he wants to play, and had options in Miami, Dallas and San Diego). But regradless, it really doesn't matter who Gibbs thought was going to win the job in the beginning, because we know from his track record that he will play that guy that earns it on the field...

I didn't go too in depth with reading every reply to this, but I did hear a lot of "We'd be admitting a mistake by signing Brunnell!"
So what? We have to do what's best for the team and if Ramsey is the more effective QB then he should be the one we use!
Also, it would still be money well spent to have Brunell there teaching Ramsey and offering his experience.
I am a huge Ramsey fan but IMO it's win-win either way. We either get:
A- The veteran QB who's smart, accurate, can move around and make things happen with his legs with the young QB pressuring him to be on his best game...
or
B- The smart young QB with a cannon arm making the step to the next level with the guidence of an experienced veteran.

man, they both have stunk it up so far in camp. if you are basing it on camp performance, TH or hamden should start.

NikiH - I agree on both points - Joe will start whoever he thinks gives us the best chance to win and we are very lucky to have a good back up QB. This is what JG wanted.
This team seems to be made up to have quality depth at most every position and that is by design.
The posts this week seem to reflect a little hysteria from some fans - and I must admit to getting a little anxious with what is reported to be happening!
As JBF said "have patience!"
