Hom much does the tivo service cost? Doesn't it require a continuous phone line connection? I was told I didn't need to connect my phoneline unless I was going to order ppv. Is that true also? I just realized how off-thread we got.

Can anyone answer my question about tranferring or sending me their digital recordings of todays Skins shows?

Another option for you folks who haven't bought TiVo yet, is a DVD recorder with a harddrive. They are becoming less expensive all the time and they'll replace several pieces of equipment. It's not as "TiVo" as "TiVo", but it has some similar features. It will act as your TiVo, DVD player, and VCR. If you're interested in archiving Redskins victories, it's the ONLY way to go. You can digitally record the games, eliminate the commercails, or anything else you want, and then burn a nice DVD copy of the game. Or the stuff on NFL network today, the Sopranos, whatever.

It won't decide what you like, like TiVo does, but you can watch while you're recording, rewind while recording, etc. It also lets you make great backup copies of anything you've been saving on video tape. And it does so on a media that will not deteriorate, and there is no generational loss. I have one, and I'm SO glad that I do.

You have to buy the TIVO/DirecTV receiver which is $99. That will replace the one you have now - but is also Dolby Digital 5.1 if you have the audio system to make that rock.

RF stands for Radio Frequency - different from the standard infrared remote in that it uses RFs to activate the receiver. You can go through walls, etc - don't have to have the line of sight you need with infrared. Hence the TVs in separate rooms. Just need two RF remotes and one RF receiver.

That's as techie as I can get.
Thanks for the info. I went to directv.com just now and I saw an ad for the $99 tivo, but it said for new customers only. Do you or anyone else know if I can trade in my ordinary receiver for the tivo. I went to Best Buy today and their DVR Tivos were $299. I'm hoping to get one for $99. Thanks.

Call DirecTV, I think the $99 deal is also for current customers. Their site has a button for ordering as a new customer as well as current customers.

Worth a try.

When I had DirecTV, they had remote triangles. You put one in the second room and one on the receiver and you can use a regluar remote from a different room. I left DirecTV before purchansing them, but they were like 60 bucks at Radio Shack.

Hey - is the NFL Network replaying the Super Bowls discussed earlier? I was out of town last weekend and forgot to schedule my Tivo to record.

Thanks

Not that I'm aware of. I wish you luck in finding out though.
