Did I just offend 4 groups of people right there? I think everyone in this world needs to "lighten up"..... Chris Rock uses "Cracker, Honkey, or Redneck" almost everytime he's on stage.... I don't see anyone jumping on his back..... I've heard alot worse words for the Japaneese than "Japs"..... LIGHTEN UP!

True but Chris Rock is a comedian, and he talks about all races.
How do you know Parcells isn't a comedian?.... How do you know he doesn't talk about all races?.... and Please... I've seen the "Black Ambition" tour.... He's not equally talking about all races when he's cracking jokes..... how many white comedians do you know that use all the slang words for African Americans? NONE!!.... So don't sit here and tell me you get a free pass if your a comedian

.... I'm not tryin to turn this into a black or white issue.... I'm just saying

WHOA HOLD UP BUDDY, I THINK U MAY BE THE ONE TO LIGHTEN UP. I was just going off of your Chris Rock thread trying to get some funny stuff started, man and you came back at me serious. And your thread made it seem like Chris Rock only talks about white people. I was just trying to lighten the mood. COME ON NOW SHARE A CUP OF COFFEE WITH ME AND LETS DO SOME YOGA TO ENLIGHTEN OUR MINDS AND RELIEVE OUR TENSIONS....lol

but this is what you said...
True but Chris Rock is a comedian, and he talks about all races.
What part of this statement was i to "assume" was the joking part??
Did I say Chris Rock only makes fun of white people??
I'm tryin to tell everyone to lighten up.... I was using Chris Rock as an example, he obviously says worse stuff than Parcells does about people of another race (atleast publicly, I don't claim to know him personally).... I wish I could have used a "White Person" as an example so you wouldn't feel like you had to defend someone of your same ethnicity.... but I can't think of any "caucasian" comedian's who base the majority of there jokes on ethnicity.... for if they did.... they might as well call it a career
So drink your coffee... and read my posts for what there meaning is... not what you want to make out of them

Gambit, I can think of tons of good Chris Rock lines... but I suspect that none of them are appropriate for the Around the League forum... man that dude's funny

BTP,
It's not JUST the shortened version that's offensive, it's saying that Jap's (or Japanese people) are tricky, and they do sneaky things...
Also, what about the word 'spic. It's short for Hispanic but it's also offensive to some people. It's all about how these words were ONCE used.
Jap and Spic were/are used often times in a derogatory manner. I don't think Tuna meant any dis (he actually prefaced by saying "no disrespect to the orientals) but it's still a stupid thing for a man in his position to say.

You can't have it both ways, bub
either it's ignorant... or it's funny

Is every joke Chris Rock makes about race? Nope.
And like Gambit said, he pokes enough fun at his own race, among others to even it out.
Besides, ignorance IS funny sometimes

Whatever dude, Chris Rock makes racial statements to sell out concert halls and get movie parts... he does it with wit and style, he doesn't go out there to just insult one group of people.
There ARE special rules for what comedians do... if you can make people laugh at others AND themselves, then that's fine...
Besides, we all KNOW Chris Rock is "insensitive" who cares? It's what's won him so many fans... but he's not ignorant about race... and saying that japs are sneaky is dumb in the context Parcells used it.

I say about 80-90% of Chris Rocks jokes are racially motivated.... whichever race he's talking about....
and again, another person "assuming" what I'm thinking... I never said he wasn't funny.... I was just comparing what he says to what Parcells says.... and there's certainly nothing wrong with what Parcells said, If you agree with what Chris Rock says.... am I right? You can't have it both ways.... you can't be against the right to bare arms.... but have a gun at home.... You can't shout,"racism".... if you find racism funny....
If someone could tell me the entire point I was trying to get across... that would make my day... because I don't think I could explain it any better

I know what you mean, but I disagree, a professional football coach and the forum he was in is TOTALLY different from a professional comedian and the forum they are in.

Yeah... but it doesn't work for all ethnicity's..... "caucasian"'s have boundries... he has none

His best joke in my book is the "Black People Vs. N..."
"N... wants credit for something they suppose to do… A N... would say some stuff like, ‘I take care of my kid.’ You suppose to, you dumb mother"
Quote modified so as not to offend anyone and remove cusswords. Some of his jokes can be found
here.

Well I'm glad you know what I mean... Because I have no clue on your point of view.....
You can't have it both ways...... It can't be bad for a non-comedian to make a racial slur..... but ok for any comedian (white, black, red or yellow) to make a racial slur.....
Bill wasn't going out protesting the "Japaneese" ..... he just was just commenting on history.... The Japaneese did sneek up on America during Pearl Harbor......
would it been ok if he called trick plays, "Japaneese"... would that make you feel better..... it's crazy the lines that are built for different ethnicity's.... when one of a dark complex... can use the words "Cracker, Honkey, and Redneck"... but a person with a light complex, has trouble asking for a black pen without getting cross examined....
The message is... LIGHTEN UP!.... you can't end racism in America... by calling out every little racial overtone .... but still laugh at others..... you gotta either have it one way or the other.... not both...

I agree BTP....
Maybe we should just call it Pearl Harbor Plays so we can offend the guys that stood up for our country and died for our country instead of offending the guys that actually did this to us!
Hell let's just forgive what the Afghani Taliban guys did in New York, it's history now! Yes, I said Afghani instead of Afghanistans! Just like Japs for Japanese is no big deal to anyone that isn't a liberal soft heart who is afraid to piss anyone off. There was a Japanese American reporter in the audience and he had no problem with it, he said. He did say where he was sure some would though! I would have to ASSUME that the majority of those who thought it was offensive were not even Japanese.

..... that's the stupidest statement I've ever heard.... It's ok to make racial statements.... if your trying to get a movie part ...
That's not what I said, I said it's an entirely different forum than a PRESS CONFERENCE FOR A HEAD FOOTBALL COACH OF AN NFL TEAM. There's no denying that what Chris Rock does is socially acceptable, and what Tuna did was borderline.
Yeah... but it doesn't work for all ethnicity's..... "caucasian"'s have boundries... he has none
I see a lot of stand up comedy, and more white comics than you think are pushing the envelope... Sure, they can't use the "n-word" the rules on that (more on that later) but every comic makes jokes about other races, they just don't use slang terms that have been deemed offensive all the time.
I'm not saying Tuna should be fired, fined, suspended or any of that crap... just that what he said was a silly thing to say in front of a room full of reporters. Who would have thought someone would have so much trouble convincing a room full of Skins fans that the Dallas Cowboys coach was dumb??
----------
Richard Prior took a Vacation in Africa once later on in life, after his career simmered down. A man there asked him to look at all the native peoples, and tell him which one the "n-words" are... Prior realized that in the 3 weeks he'd been in Africa he hadn't used the word once, he broke down and cried, and swore never to use the word again. Sure, different people feel differently about the word's use. Paul Mooney a comic, and writer and friend of Prior's, jokes that he says the word 1,000 times every morning because "it makes his teeth white". But if the most profane man in America swore off the word as too profane for him, why do comics continue to use it, and why do rappers use it when they can't think of something to rhyme with "trigger." If it's to take power away from the word, as many people say and to make it something that it isn't... then why are white people not allowed to use it? What makes a word more powerful than making it forbidden?

Do you think the one Japanese-American reporter in the audience is going to stand up and say. "I object Mr. Parcells! You have offended me and my people! We will now crusade against you!!!"???
And yes, obviously SOME Japanese people aren't going to be offended, just as SOME people from other races ARE going to be offended for no reason (I'm not offended)... but it's STILL a dumb thing to say.

Exactly
If a comedian went out for a half hour special or whatever and JUST told "Jap jokes", that would be racist and insensitive...
If he goes out and scatters different jokes in his act it's TOTALLY different.

Hey... I find Chris Rock funny... I watch his shows on HBO.... I Crack up at some of his "White Jokes"... and I find some of them a little offensive.... yet, I know were he's coming from and I laugh it off.... but I don't go pointing fingers at Parcells when he abreviates a nationality.... and I don't go pointing fingers at Seau for saying "chicken and watermelon".... nor do I point fingers at Daymond John (CEO of FUBU) for his line of clothing......
why don't I.... because what does it fix?

BTP, here's the clue train... last stop you...
I could give less of a crap about Tuna abreviating the name, but it IS insensitive to imply that Japanese people are all sneaky tricksters by saying that a surprise play is a Jap Play...
It would have been equally offensive to say surprise plays were Japanese plays... the abbreviation has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT...

Speaking of FUBU, why make a clothing brand called "For Us By Us" and eliminate a good portion of the market right off the bat?
Also, FUBU does suck, didn't they stop being cool like 5 years ago?
