As far as I know, Iffy IS the incumbent starter, so, by your logic, HE should keep his number, until he's no longer there.

is there any doubt that Portis will start?
Manning #10

Eli Manning had to pay to send Jeff Feagles (and his wife and kids) on vacation to get jersey #10. Iffy just to needs to ask a hefty price and be done with it.

Well, it isn't like the jersey number is in Portis' contract. A guy that age, though...Well, they have a hard time keeping quiet, to say the least. Iffy won't give it up. He wants a chance to distinguish the number. Portis may have to settle. I hope he's mature enough to do so without making undue commotion during t/c.

I am thinking this whole argument is silly
It dont mean anything about your standard of play as to which number you wear

It's a number, not a name! Pick another jersey and show us what PORTIS can do in burgundy & gold!

All I am saying is that everything is suppose to be wide open, no favoritism, no matter how much money you make, no matter how long you have been here. Right. If iffy is starting on D then fine he should get first shot at retaining his #, but if he is riding the pine then Portis should get first shot at the #. I honestly would rather see the boxing match. Haven't seen a good whooping since Westbrook and Davis.

OUCH !!!

How many of you think that Ohalete will beat out Bowen at the FS spot. Taylor will definatly be the Strong Safety. Ohalete is better at coverage then Bowen and faster and more of a ball hawk. IMO

Taylor's going to be playing free saftey. My money is on Ohalete for the strong saftey spot, but many here would disagree...

I must say I do agree with the redskin fan in disguise that ohalete will beat out bowen. Ohalete was originaly a CB might fight for a position there. Bowen should be headhunter on special teams - kickoffs reminds me so much of steve taskner. He can knock himself silly all day long.

As long as he is a Redskin it is his number unless he wants to give it up.

Portis just needs to shut up and show us what he can do, no matter what number is on his back. Iffy has the # and it should be his until he either wants to change or leaves the team...period. Looking at what is going on in pro sports, Portis should be happy his numbers aren't just on the front of his jumper suit.

Go right ahead and cut Iffy.......If Ohalete got cut and became a cowboy I would sleep alot better. That way Roy could play SS and Iffy could be our future FS.......dont let him get away redskin fans.......i see star quality on him

Iffy should get to keep his #. Just as Gibbs said Iffy is the vet and his # belongs to him. Sean Taylor already has the #36 and he really does not care that he is not wearing 26.

Lost in all of this is that Brunell has number 8. Tim Hasselbeck wore it last season, and he's still (officially) on the roster. He now wears #4. Maybe they reached an agreement, but if that was reported, I missed it.
Interesting post earlier about Riggins wearing #29. I remember Denson wearing #44, but it would've seemed wrong for Riggo to wear anything but #44. Maybe I'll get a Riggins #29 jersey made, that'd be cool, but I'd be forever explaining it, so scratch that plan.
If anyone knows about how Brunell got #8, please post it.

Not that it matters all that much in real life, but doesn't Iffy always become a beast in Madden Franchise mode?
Just a thought. . .

Tim just gave up the number
WJLA
In Washington, third-stringer Hasselbeck yielded to Brunell without a price.
"I guess it's good for Mark that I've been on so many stinking teams that I haven't really become attached to anything," Hasselbeck said. "And I think he appreciates not having to dip into the bank account to wear a certain jersey number."

Hint to S.Taylor.... Eli is paying the the punter's vacation for the #10 and the issuse is DONE

didn't CP wear a different number in college and high school?
If Iffy wore 26 the whole time, I would call the issue settled... who is wearing CP's old #?

He wore #28 at Miami

Yes, Portis wore 28 at Miami. Nobody is wearing it now but I think everyone knows who used to. I have not seen it reported as being an unofficially retired number but it would be strange to see Portis wearing it.
That raises another question -- should Portis wear Daryl's #28?

No player is to wear #28!
