by the way - Iffy was a strong safety, but had been moved to free safety before we had Bowen due to Terrell not being good at free safety.
Bowen will move back and Iffy will basically be competing for both if you think about it.
But Williams has stated that there will be times they have 3 safeties on the field - imagine that - three guys who are all proven interceptors playing all at the same time - I wouldn't wanna be a QB... and on top of that Smoot and Springs playing CB - yeesh.
I have no problems with the d other than the line. Fix that and I will begin bowing and scraping the day after. This is shaping up to be a very bad year for a lot of offenses in the NFL.
I love listening to Williams talk - intensity incarnate. I would love to be 20 and ready to head to the NFL next year just to have a chance to play for him. Did you hear how he jumped that reporter? "Is this gonna be a negative article about Shawn?"
Tell me that man won't get loyalty for protecting his boys' backs like that. They'll go through the gates of Hades for a coach like that.

What? I love Iffy but Bowen is a better player. He is faster and is a harder hitter and better fundamental tackler. He has better coverage skills too. It was his speed and coverage skills that moved him to FS last year. Now Iffy may be a lot better this year and Bowen may be worse but barring that surely Bowen will play SS and Taylor FS.

Well that's a basic disagreement we have. I don't even think it is much of a debate as to who is the better player. He might be a harder hitter, but I seriously doubt he is faster than Ohalete (I can't find their 40 times), and I know he's not a better fundamental tackler, that might be his biggest weakness. Unfortunetly, we will have to wait until the season starts to see who is right...
I'm bored, I'm broke, and I'm back.
Bowen ran a 4.47 whereas Iffy only ran a 4.6 out of college (see http://www.the-hogs.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4447 ). That is a huge difference in the NFL.

I would say its 50 50 going in to training camp and the open competition will get the best out of the two quarterbacks. Looks like we wont be worrying about qb this year.

On the safeties argument; A lot of people are saying that Bowen is going to be turned into a great player under Williams. In that case, doesn't Iffy have the same coach? Iffy might turn into a good enough FS/SS under Williams that taylor has trouble winning the starting job.
Also, I'd trust Iffy more on obvious long passing downs.

Safety concerns
Go ahead and pencil Taylor in at FS. The competition (come July) is going to be hot and heavy between Iffy and Bowen for the SS spot. It is going to be tight. I think everyone can agree that Iffy and Bowen are very good players with upside and its going to be fun watching them duke it out.
Back to Ramsey/Brunell. One thing that has irked me on all the articles written by the Pasqarelli's of the world is that Brunell's contract (cap-wise) is not all that huge! Snyder tiered his bonus money so we would not take a huge cap-hit if Brunell is released. So, yeah, the top dollar figure averaged over the full length of the contract is a big number. But the bonus money comes in segments and the contract is back-loaded, so unless they keep Brunell with his existing contract for 4 years or more he isn't hitting the cap very hard over the next few years. In the end, what I'm saying is, the Redskins are paying less for two starting caliber QB's than the 75% of the other NFL teams. It is not a reason for controversy, simply smart team management. We all know Gibbs will play the best guy regardless.
