This is where I am. I look at perpetually successful teams like New England and Pittsburgh and they don't pay anyone out of fear they might lose a player who develops after he is gone. There has to be some rhyme or reason to that philosophy.

To that point... They let people who DO perform walk... And fill the need with a cheaper alternative nearly every year

Yeah man, I don't really disagree with anything you're saying. But just getting rid of Josh Doctson isn't really a plan. "I hope Simms will be good" isn't a plan. I know we've drafted some guys and we have a few guys in the pipeline, but its all just kind hopeful right now. I guess my question for everyone here is: who is the WR on this roster right now that we know for sure is better than Docston? He was our leading WR last year (sorry if anybody threw up in their mouth reading that!)

The thing that has bred mediocrity here is not developing our players the way we should. Just watch. We're always more than willing to grab somebody else's failed pick off the scrap heap, overpay him and say, "Yeah maybe we'll get more out of this guy". We're super quick to cut bait on our own draft picks. And not getting that fifth year out of a 1st round pick is a failure.

I'm just conversing here btw. Not really butt hurt that they didn't extend him. I get the sense that he's a "McCloughan pick" that they're not especially attached to.

Weird btw how many of those 2015 first rounders aren't being extended to the 5th year. Feels like I've seen a bunch.

Not to beat a dead horse but we'd have to come up about three steps to reach "awful" at drafting receivers. Whatever it is this team evaluates when they draft receivers it's the wrong thing(s).

Good decision to refuse the 5th year option. Doctson has been a nothing very season. Aside from Doctson's constant injuries, Boswell kept mentioning that Doctson does not run a route, or, at best, does not run his routes accurately. The 78 targets in a "good" year indicate that Doctson often is not where the QB expects him to be. He has been useless.

Almost forgot: good to see Justice Hog return. Maybe a good-sense draft has lifted everyone's feeling? A reasonable optimism returning after dismal years?

It would definitely be nice to see some of the old guard drop by but I've been hesitant to reach out to most of them. Unfortunately people move on with their lives and sometimes that means having no time for THN.

I, for one, miss the cup and straw.

Kinda the opposite. Cousins, Spencer Long, Trent Murphy, Bashad Breeland, Matt Jones, Ryan Grant... all guys we let go. Not sure any of them excelled elsewhere yet and a couple of them were just completely done.

Never quite understood switching picks with Houston. They then took Fuller and we got Achilles Man.
