Eeven the Browns

Post by fleetus »

I agree with Genuswine. Here's the list against Winslow:

1. On more than one occasion has stuck his foot in his mouth on national television (Taylor - not once)
2. Signed with Postons (expect a holdout from Winslow for more money)
3. Took all of 5 minutes to bring his character into question, AGAIN! when he should've been thanking Browns fans.
4. Even the Browns graded Taylor higher than Winslow (as evidenced by the Browns attempt to trade up to #4 with the Giants to getv Taylor)
5. Clinton Portis former teammate of both Taylor and Winslow has been campaigning for Taylor.
6. Skins traded their best DB away for an offensive player (Portis) and needed to fill one of the holes on defense more than offense.
7. Gibbs has always used unselfish TE's who blocked well, played special teams, etc. Winslow does not fit that mold, Chris Cooley does, and with much less of a price tag or headache associated.
Build through the draft!

Skinsfan55, Taylor is not a role-player. Was Ronnie Lott a role-player, how about Jack Tatum, Brian Dawkins, Roy Williams, Ed Reed... A Safety of Taylor's talent level controls the center of the field, gives out punishment to wide recievers, can make touchdown-(or even game)saving open field tackles, and he is a big play machine. How many role players make 10 interceptions, returning three for touchdowns (leading D1) playing one of the hardest college schedules in the country. A player like Taylor can get into the heads of not just the wide recievers but QB of the opposing team. And every time he makes an interception he has the chance to return it. His open field running is incredible. I guess returning an interception for a touchdown isn't an impact play and any role-player can do that. In an era when defenses rely on cover two, lots of blitzing, and loading up the box, the Safety is becoming more important than ever and the best are looked at as some of the premiere defensive players in the game. Taylor has the chance to be a dominating force in the very near future. He can cover Shockey and Winslow and even take on big recievers like TO. But then again he is a role player -- on specail teams! Last year he blocked two punts.

We may have all had different wants from the draft. I wanted Taylor, I'm happy. I think we needed an impact player on D more than on O. However, if we had taken Winslow I would be looking at how much he can do for us, and I'd be pleased.
Taylor might not be the pick some were after but no-one can say he's not going to help our team a lot. This is how we should be looking at our draft.

Taylor was the right pick and its a no brainer. Here is why... 1. Our offense is fine look at the offense we have Qb's -Brunell/Ramsey Rb-Portis WR-Coles, Garnder, DMAC, Oline-Samuels, Jansen, Friedman, Thomas and Dockery, TE-Koz, Rasby -- That is a top 5 offense right there! Look at our Defense now -- Safeties Iffy and Bowen - Now we start Iffy and Taylor along with CBS-Smoot and Springs and our secondary instantly becomes 5 times better atleast.. We needed our secondary to be improved because our D-line is the weakest part of our team!! Taylor is going to be an unbelieable safety and playmaker! Just watch his highlight clips! I have watched both Taylor and winslow play live! Taylor is incredible!
