That's fine but it doesn't make for very interesting discussion. Q: Hey who do you want the Skins to pick in the draft? A: Whoever they pick!:D
Actually - I will be fine with whomever they add - they did well last year and IMO they will not pick players that the media think we should pick
I LIKE THAT
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
I like those players, but not really buying the prediction. Its good to note though that if a guy like Michael Thomas is Scot's BPA at that point, we HAVE to take him. Even though fans will be crying, "But we need a safety! We need a corner!"
That's good because he likely will not be available that late. As you say, if he is then he is a must pick since ....

Interesting. "He is the guy the Redskins would most covet," Cole says, adding Thomas has "emerged" as one of the top receivers in this class along with Laquon Treadwell and Will Fuller (we wonder why Corey Coleman and Josh Doctson were not mentioned). It is worth noting that Cole says the Redskins feel that Thomas "likes football the most" out of the receiver group, hammering home his "competitiveness." Pierre Garcon and Desean Jackson both have huge cap hits this season along with cuttable contracts, if the Redskins think about going in that direction. We compare Thomas to Michael Crabtree, a comparison first delivered by Rumford Johnny.

Dude is Scot's highest ranked WR and is projected late first / early second.
How great would it be to trade back a hair and get him AND another stud for the price of the 21st pick? I wonder where he is on Scot's big board.
Hog Bowl III, V, X Champion (2011, 2013, 2018)

Scalp 'em, Swamp 'em, We will take 'em big score! Read 'em, Weep 'em Touchdown, We want heap more!
I want it to come out that Jalen Ramsey has a major hangnail, causing him to drop to 2-2 (pick 33), which we own after a trade with the Browns so they can get a quarterback as insurance, after Bob Griffin shattered his wrist while dialing his Mom (after signing his contract), and, in which they surrendered their the gave us the rest of their draft, plus their #2 in 2017. With our second round pick, we grab Thomas, who fell gracefully to us, as well, after he announces that he plans to vote for Donald Trump.
Bam!

When did Scot McCloughan become Jerry Jones and start announcing his draft board to everyone ahead of time? I'm thinking never. I have no issue if this is how it goes but I think the "reporter" is making it up as he goes along based upon who he thinks might still be on the board when the Redskins pick, if they pick with the 21st selection.

and here was I thinking that I was the only one who had access to 'inside information' btw - THAT is absolutely NOT true
Scot (& the FO) are going to continue making this franchise better
they certainly are not believing (or putting any value in) anything they read or hear from the DC media

I also expect Scott to trade down. Unless a top ten talent drops like Jaylon Ramsey or Myles Jack. I doubt it so I do expect Scott to trade down. He has already said he'd like 12 picks.
Honestly the Qb prospects suck this year. So I don't see teams trading up either. Ehhh you never know.

I think Ramsey is going to go very early. Maybe top 4.
Never know about trades, but at 21 its not impossible that a team like the Browns or the Broncos might trade up to get the guy they want.

fortunately for us there are a number of franchises that still don't have a clue (just like we were for so many years) anything can happen

Yeah I read this weekend that the Texans had signed Osweiler without Coach O'Brien meeting him first. Sounds brilliant.

Jack Conklin LT of MSU says he would like to block for Kirk Cousins. If I was OT prospect I'd like to get drafted to a team with quick release like Cousins also. Conklin totally stoned Joey Bosa of Ohio State the two times they met, During the their game in November Bosa got called for 3 offside penalty trying desparately to get a jump on Conklin. Conklin just consumed Bosa the whole game.
I love for the Skins to draft him but unfortunately his expected to go much earlier then 21. Here is the link to the story:
You seem very high on another o-line OldSchool. Good players no doubt. I'm just not seeing it as likely at 21. I think we'll be able to find quality o-line guys later especially w McCloughan picking.

If they can trade out of the first, seems like both of those positions would still be possibilities in the second round.

Scot has said he has a player in mind... if he gets to 21. Now, that could, of course, be some play to encourage offers... but I get the feeling he thinks there is a top 15 player on his list who will fall to him.
We will never know... but I like this guy.

I just have a feeling its Reggie Ragland. Seems to be checking off a lot of those boxes IMO. We'll see.
Scot is right to think a top 15 player could fall to him at 21. First off, you know that at least two QBs are going to be drafted early, regardless of their overall rankings. Another two or three left tackles will be drafted because some teams like the Titans, maybe the Chargers absolutely need those players, have to protect their QBs. Its not just possible Scot will have a top player at 21, its likely. This is why I'll be a little surprised if we trade out of that spot.
I see that the team is meeting with Christian Hackenberg today btw. I wouldn't be disappointed to see the team draft a QB in the 4-7 round range.

Having a top 10 or top 15 player fall to 21 would also give our guys a better 'chance' to trade down
it's really not a big deal - be great to have 1 V. good player but increasing our draft picks is also good - especially with this FO
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
SJ, these are some scenarios that I think you and I would both be happy with. Tandler writes about how the Josh Norman move and the Browns trade might open up some opportunities for us to trade down from 21 - but not so far down that we can't still get a top player.
There likely will be some interesting cornerback prospects on the board when the Redskins are on the clock at No. 21. But players like Eli Apple, Mackensie Alexander, and William Jackson III could be gone by the time the Panthers pick at No. 31.
The Panthers could send their third- and fourth-round picks to the Redskins to move up from No. 31 to No. 21. Such a deal would be a little tilted towards Carolina on the trade chart (Redskins would be sending 800 points, getting back 771) but McCloughan might like the extra picks enough to pull the trigger.
This is where the Redskins could come into play. Scot McCloughan has the “For Sale” sign on everyone one of his eight draft picks including the first-round pick. If the Browns call and want to move back up into the first round to take a quarterback like Paxton Lynch of Memphis or Connor Cook of Michigan state, McCloughan will listen.
In fact, it just so happens that a trade is there to be made if both sides want it. According to the draft trade chart the Redskins’ top pick (800 points) is worth about what the Browns second- (No. 32, 590 points) and third-round (No. 65, 265 points) picks are. The Redskins might have to send back a fifth round pick to even it out. But such a deal would give the Redskins four picks in the top 100 giving them a chance to either grab some top young talent or chips for more trades and a chance to accumulate more picks.

I agree riggofan - thankfully our FO is not making crazy decisions like the Rams and the Eagles just did - and both franchises look like they are taking players that most do not rate as the best players available
we know our guys will take a guy that is highly rated if he falls to the 21 spot, but, as you point out, they will also evaluate that against the fact that some other franchise might covet that player enough to make a trade that will benefit us more
I cannot believe those trades - that is crazy stuff - I'm especially glad that the Eagles decided to do that
the key is you have to have the talent evaluators that we seem to have here - that is not easy to do
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
It's looking to me like there will be 3 quarterbacks taken in the top 12... that's good, because none of them are high first round talent. That's 3 players who belong in the top 12 who will fall. I also think that a couple of teams will draft OL's who belong in the bottom of the first round or lower. Much like quarterbacks, these guys are often overvalued. So, that's another 2 players who will cause a domino effect resulting in some real quality and desirable talent on the board at 21. I don't think Scot will have any trouble finding a trading partner, if he wants. But, I also don't expect to be disappointed by whatever name is called if we keep that pick.

Yeah I was kind of seeing the same thing. Just curious where you see the third QB in the top 12 going?

So here's another hypothetical, what would you do question for you:
Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State Scout Inc's #8 player on the big board
Falls to #21.
You taking him?
