anyone want to bet that NY will clarify that it is him now that he's signed with us
NY...........you mean Mara?

I just think it's fair to think that 'someone in NY' will make sure that the guy in that video is 'clearly' a recent signee of the Redskins

The contract situation is what puts it over the top. It's like the Goldson situation but even sweeter: the Saints are paying big bucks for this guy to play somewhere else, so we can sign him to a pretty stringent prove-it deal. He's just hoping to catch on somewhere decent.

Skins have the right of first refusal. Meaning we can match whatever another team may offer in 2016.
Junior Galette has found a new home in the nation's capital.
The former Saints pass rusher, released less than a week ago by New Orleans, signed a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins on Friday, per the team. The contract comes one day after Galette took a physical and met with a host of Redskins officials.
NFL Media's Albert Breer reported that Galette signed for the veteran minimum, which is surprising considering his on-field production. It's not so surprising considering his toxic exit out of New Orleans. The deal also hands Washington something rare in NFL circles: right of first refusal for Galette's services in 2016, allowing them to match any deal he earns from another team.
Shed no tears for Galette's bank account. The locker-room headache squeezed the Saints for $18 million over the past 10 months.

Vet minimum and right of first refusal, can we please give Scott a golf clap. Talk about taking the risk out of the equation, landing a big time pass rusher, and giving yourself the opportunity to keep him beyond next year. I love having a real GM.

Don't we also need to give Bruce a clap as well considering he's the one that put the contract together? I know Scot is handling the personnel decisions, but I thought Bruce was still the numbers/cap guy. Could be wrong there.

We just spent 2 # 2’s on OLB, so is Galette going to take their reps? It’s not like we are on the cusp of winning the SB, I think I’d rather see the kids get the reps and developed. Also isn’t he going to get suspended…how many games??

It's plug and play man. We have starters and DEPTH. Something we were lacking for many years.
I'm excited about our D more than our O, to be honest. We shall see.

Not plug and play if he gets suspended...lets say he has a great year. Then what, you going to pay him Kerrigan $$$?

The guy acted like a complete idiot, unlike we've seen someone act before, especially as it relates to calling out his teammates. I don't think we have to worry about him receiving Kerrigan money offers next year. If the price does get too high, we turn to the 2nd or 3rd year players who get another year under their belt. As for the suspension, nothing is in stone yet because they can't confirm he was in the video.

In all honestly I dont think Galette will be here next year anyways, so it gives Murphy and Smith another year under there belt. The signing is a win-win for me.

Aren't they better off getting reps??

Everyone is always better off getting reps, but this guy was to good to pass up and at the vet min I think the Skins have protected themselves. If Galette was just an average player they would not have given him another thought. Galette improves your team while letting your draft picks learn the system. The NFL is about talent and depth, Skins just got both today at the LB position.

From watching the Seahawks D the past few years, I think Murphy and Smith will get on the field on 3rd downs. If the guys belong on the field, they will find a way to get them playing time.

It would not surprise me to see them toy with Murphy as an ILB, as well... Frankly, I think he has the speed, intelligence, talent, and drive to do it, and be pretty good... It would not be a bad thing to have a Linebacker you could use anywhere.

What is that "first right of refusal" thing? I'm on the beach today, couldn't get it to google for some reason...

I'm not paying him. Scot and Bruce can handle that....lol

Galette sounds like a respectful, well spoken young man. I think we scored on this one.

And look at what's just happened with Breeland btw. I was just starting to feel better about the CB situation with him, Hall, Culliver and Amerson, then boom he's out 8 weeks. Four quality guys at OLB is a much better situation than we had a week ago. Its certainly better than our OLB situation last year.

I am concerned about this acquisition because of the abuse allegations. SM drafted a guy thus year and abuse allegations surfaced and now he signs a guy with outstanding abuse issues. I don't like it.
The one things the Skins have done well prior to SM is keep the roster clear of miscreants and bums. I think Shanny tried to get former college captains to try to raise the character level on the roster. I don't like this move.

You really can't have too many good pass rushers. Given how little we are risking with this signing financially, it seems like a good move. Character is obviously a big question mark, but the players seem to be for it and I trust our new GM to have done his homework.
We're going to have two stud OLBs starting with high 2nd round picks backing them. Good stuff.

In SCOT we Trust.....!!!
"We did our investigation," McCloughan said. "We were thorough, thorough, thorough. We went to the league office and other players [and coaches] in the league. This guy, we feel very comfortable bringing him on board. Very comfortable.
"The decision was made because we really believe he's a Redskin and that's why I signed him."
Galette was released by the Saints less than a year after signing an extension worth up to $41 million. He remains under investigation by the NFL for various off-field issues and faces suspension.
Galette was arrested in January for domestic violence, but the charges were later dismissed. There's also a video from 2013 that shows a man who resembles Galette involved in a fracas on the beach during which the man strikes a woman. Galette's attorney has denied that the man was his client.
McCloughan said he spoke with Galette about the video and many other matters over the course of several hours.
"I did not like the video at all and as a matter of fact when I saw the video it was scary," McCloughan said. "That's why I wanted to meet with him face to face. That's why I had to sit down with him and ask him what happened. I got the real story and I'm fine with that."
McCloughan would not say what the real story was, other than "just the truth."
"I'm not trying to protect him at all," McCloughan said. "He's going to have to prove himself out with us to be with us. But just to talk to him and hear his story -- because I wanted to know it, too. It was very important to me."
Team president Bruce Allen and coach Jay Gruden also met with Galette and spoke to people they know around the league about him. McCloughan would not say if he spoke with anyone from New Orleans but Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters that he did not talk to anyone from the Redskins.
But the Redskins feel good about their research regardless. McCloughan said in April that he did not want "bad guys" in his locker room, a stance he reiterated Sunday.
"We all have some kind of issue," McCloughan said. "We've all made mistakes or something. I don't want the repeat offenders. I don't want the guy that I know is not going to be a good guy and be in our locker room."
McCloughan also made it clear: His job is to compile the best 53 players for the roster. Galette, who has a combined 22 sacks the past two seasons, qualifies as a good talent.
"This is a 27-year-old pass rusher that has a lot of production that's had some issues in the past," McCloughan said. "He had other options, but for some reason we talked him into us being his first visit.
"I can tell you, when he left my room, the guy was crying, the guy was sweating. He was so excited to be a Redskin. That's passion. That's what I'm looking for: competitiveness, toughness. He has to walk the line and he knows that. If he doesn't, then he's gone."

It would be crazy to not be
concerned about this move. The Saints let him go for a reason, and they took a BIG hit in doing so.
Not
liking this move is another story. Its very low risk. McCloughan was satisfied with what he found out looking into the situation. If he was wrong in that, its not like we signed Galette to a $14m/yr contract. The guy is playing for the league minimum this year. We can cut him painlessly and move on.
Low risk, high reward. Not really sure what's not to like about this move.
I think we got a steal of a deal myself.
