That's true too. I forgot about that one.

I don't know why exactly, but the narrative this week seems to be that we were the dirty team trying to cheat our way to a win over the better team. I guess that's just going to be the case until we have the better record.

I was not impressed with Ryan Kerrigan's antics against Jacksonville. I know victories don't come around here often and I'm all for celebrating, but I was disappointed with his showboating and WWE-like "poses" after his sacks. I know excessive celebration is a part of the modern day NFL, but I liked it when guys did what they were paid to do and didn't feel the need to draw attention to themselves afterwards. It is bush league and not classy at all, no matter who does it, but it's especially ridiculous when a guy on a team with a two decade losing streak does it. He was a non-factor against Philly. Hopefully Haslett told him to tone it down and play ball.

While I don't want people to infer that I believe our D is bad, because I don't. 10 of our points @PHI were from ST and an INT (that our DEF kept to a FG). This is the best DEF we have had in a while. They put us in a position to win the game on sunday. I have always maintained that if a DEF holds their opponent to under 23, they have done their job --- but with an offense like PHI, those rules change. They held them to 27, which is not bad.

But, as far as those stats --- first, you also have to consider the fact 2 of our 3 games have been against HOU & JAC.... and a DEF is only as good as their total points scored against --- and we are a respectable 12th in that category.

What I am saying is that we are closer to that 12th number than 4.

There is a reason that defensive rankings are based on yardage, not score...

I'm sure you're right on all of that. What I am saying is that its moronic to pop up on here and start complaining that Jim Haslett should be fired. Even if you think we're only the 12th best defense in the league, any sane person knows how much better that is from where we finished last year.

Agree. That being said, Haslett should have been fired last year. I would have supported Wade Phillips getting hired as our DC. That being said, now is not the time for a coaching change..... and if our DEF stays were it is now, Haslett should remain the DC going into 2015.

After Sunday's game I'd have to say that is a bit of an OVER ranking...

I can't argue with either of those comments. Haz was the last coach I expected to see come back, and I'm a fan of Wade Philips as DC too. There may be something to be said though for not having to start completely from scratch this year on the defense.

So after the kick return and not counting the last possession (why did we call timeout on 4th down with the clock stopped???) we have Philly with 11 possessions.

We have 4 punts, 3 FGs (one on a 2 yard drive), and 3 TDs. At least one TD was a direct result of a drive continuing because a 3rd down stop was negated by a horrible PI call. Another was greatly aided by Baker being called for a personal foul.

This was against a truly prolific offense in a hostile environment while incurring multiple injuries after coming in hurt.

I think the premise of this thread is absurd.

I was worried in the first half. I was wondering where our defense went. I was pleasantly surprised to see adjustments in the second half with Haslett. The second half we showed mettle. We never quit and actually tightened up. No one can stop that offense but we managed to do well. It just wasn't good enough in the first half. How people can find our defense atrocious is beyond me. Last year was a pretty good indicator of
just that except for the run D. I see a huge improvement. Now that we lost DHall I expect things will get a little worse, but not worse than last year no way. We are getting pressure from our front seven. When we get our nose tackle back we can expect more sacs. We have always been decent run D.

They just gave up 37 points...and don't give me this garbage that Philly's offense is so good they can't be stopped....

Technically, the defense gave up 30 points, not 37. I don't think they get credited with a giving up the kick off return TD.

Fair enough. However, in response I offer the following scores given up by highly ranked defenses over an entire year:
2013- 4th Ranked defense (acc. to profootball reference) - New Orleans gave up 30 to Patriots, 34 to seattle, 27 to Rams
2013 - 2nd Ranked defense - Panthers gave up 31 to Saints
2013 - 3rd ranked Defense - 49ers gave up 28 to Packers and 29 to seahawks
2013 -5th Ranked defense - Chiefs- gave up 41 to San Diego; 35 to Denver; 27 to Denver and 31 to Oakland

Even More valid comparison to the Skins being ranked 4th right now (which by the way is 4th in yards allowed per ESPN)? Let's look at the other teams around them:
2nd Ranked - Jets: gave up 31 to the packers
3rd ranked - Patriots: gave up 33 to the dolphins
5th ranked - Titans: gave up 33 to the bengals and 26 to the Cowboys

In other words, it happens.
