No doubt!

Personally I'm amazed that guys in the NFL still MAKE that choice. Given how much money is on the line and knowing the NFL is testing them. Its just insane.

Is it easier to get away with smoking weed as a college athlete?

Much. But it's pretty easy as a pro too. The CBA only allows for testing once a year at the beginning of training camp, unless a previous offender. Once they've taken the test, most can use without worry for the rest of the season. Breeland just got caught holding.

I'm ONLY mad at him because he's had a decent camp and I would think that he would be all about making the roster and helping our secondary

when I heard about this stupid misdemeanor I wondered about his commitment to the team ... that's it - the coaches know him and if there's any doubt, he's hurting his chances because his priorities are misplaced

all I'm asking is .. why do that

Its obvious he made a mistake.. I will judge his character on how he rebounds. Does he go the Sleepy Davis route?

Or does he become a probowler who lived and learned like mr TW?

Guess we will see, and like Trent, I will be rooting for his success in burgundy and gold.

Dwayne Bowe suspended for Chiefs season opener

The Kansas City Chiefs have a more pressing issue with Dwayne Bowe than a finger that has been dislocated "about 15 times."

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, via two sources informed of the imminent suspension, the veteran wide receiver will be banned from the season opener after violating the NFL policy and program on substances of abuse. The NFL and the team later announced the suspension.

The evolution of the NFL:
Take a look at how the NFL has evolved from its humble roots, and the efforts being made to ensure it continues to grow.

The one-game suspension is in response to a November arrest for marijuana possession that was eventually bargained down to lesser charges of defective equipment and littering.

"I am extremely sorry that I can't be on the field for the first game of the 2014 season because I made an error in judgment," Bowe said Friday in a statement released by the team. "I take responsibility for my mistake, and it will not happen again. I hope that my teammates, coaches, and Chiefs fans accept my sincere apology. I will be supporting my teammates in week one, and I cannot wait to get back on the field to help us win in week two and beyond as we work towards our goal of winning the Super Bowl."

"We are disappointed in the situation and will miss him on the field, but we support the league's decision," the team said in its own statement.

Bowe was previously suspended four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances in 2009.

The suspension presents an intriguing option for the Chiefs front office. Bowe's base salary for 2015 remains $10.75 million, but it's no longer guaranteed, per Rapoport.

There's a strong argument to be made that Bowe is currently the NFL's most overpaid wide receiver. Moving like a tight end in 2013, he didn't put Kansas City at a competitive advantage on a weekly basis. Come next offseason, the team's brain trust might decide that his salary is a competitive disadvantage.

With Bowe out of the lineup versus the Titans, in the meantime, Junior Hemingway is the top candidate to join Donnie Avery in the starting lineup.

Keep an eye on undrafted rookie Albert Wilson, a playmaker out of Georgia State who has impressed in training camp as well as the preseason opener.

Alternatively, coach Andy Reid could opt for more two-tight-end sets, with breakout candidate Travis Kelce playing increased snaps.

Either way, the Chiefs will continue to lean heavily on Jamaal Charles to carry the offense.

Certainly sounds that way.

What the hell is a "defective equipment" charge?

It's definitely not Bowe's first offense. I'm optimistic for our rookie.

Breeland has not done anything to warrant missing ANY playing time - he made a bad choice but that's it ...

this kid is showing he can play well and providing he does not make any more stupid decisions, he will be playing on Sundays

if he makes another bad choice I hope the NFL (& Gruden) make an example of him but they will not do anything to him for this mistake

I have no idea why these athletes continue to do stuff as stupid as this and risk their opportunity to be a part of the NFL

Wait a second.... Are you the same guy who wrote: "IMO, he made a STUPID choice and he fully understood the consequences of that decision ... see ya!"

????

I guess you watched him PLAY last night! :)

All weed aside, I thought Breeland looked really good last night. There was a mention of some within the organization believes he would make a great safety. I don't know about that, but I really like the way he plays. Where was Philip Thomas?

Funny, I didn't notice Thomas out there at all last night. (Maybe not a bad thing, at least he wasn't getting burned.) Who would have guessed it would Bacarri Rambo making the plays at safety so far this preseason?

I've been a fan of his since last year. I thought he got an undeservedly horrible reputation from a couple of botched plays and actually did OK for us as a rookie, with flashes of potential. That said, even I have been surprised by his consistency this year. I think we have a guy who long-term can start for this team. And lots of good special teams play from him, too.

One of the announcers said last night, during the game, that some within the organization thought Breeland would make a great safety. I didn't read it, I do have it recorded though.

He was put in an AWFUL situation for a rookie last year, no question. I hope you're right about his potential. Either way, nice to see him making plays out there this preseason!

Good comment from Rich Tandler about the game Monday night and players who helped themselves:

Bashaud Breeland was in little danger of having his status affected by his marijuana arrest a week ago but he made sure of it on Monday night. He tied for the team lead in combined tackles with five, most of which delivered some pain to the ball carrier, knocked down two passes, and recovered a fumble.
