As of 8:33 AM Sunday, 15 players have not made their picks. You are all 0-1 from Thursday and the clock is ticking. If you don't make any picks you will get the worst score of the week minus 1.
Good luck.

I don't like this; is there any way to make it so that the late games don't lock at the same time the early ones do? Whether a player is active may determine who we pick, and that player's status may not be announced until after the early games have kicked off.

It doesn't seem to work on old posts and I'm thinking that was 2008 or so. I'm also thinking there's a little more to it than reading the thread but maybe not.
Thanks anyway.

For now, games lock just before the first game of the day. You can still change all your Sunday picks and you can change your Monday picks until tomorrow evening.
You might want to start a poll to see how many of us want a change.

But I thought CBS was supposed to be the best
ESPN doesn't lock the late games until 15 minutes before they start

Gimme a break.
We have options. Never said best ... I don't think. Just better than Yahoo! I can make it 5 minutes before each kickoff if that's what enough people want.
Start a poll.

PS - You can be commish if you want. Seriously.

In the beginning, Hognostications were entered in a thread on the message board. After a few seasons, Boss announced that there was a new app to record the picks and keep score, so picks were no longer entered in a thread, but in a new section of THN, that dealt solely with Hognostications. This was the way it went for a year or two. In 2008, about week six or seven of the NFL season, I entered my picks as I always have since Hognostications began, and for whatever reason, my picks were not recorded on the site. The next week the system crashed fully and never worked again. The picks were once again entered in a message board thread each week, using the app's last successful week's scores as a starting point. I kept track in the thread each week of what my score would have been had the missing picks been properly recorded. At the end of the season, SkinsJock's total, minus the missing picks, equaled mine. I have always contended that I made my picks that week, as I have the entire history of the game (I'm the only board member who has played every season). I have only not made my picks once, and that was the week that Sean Taylor was murdered. I congratulate SJ on a great year of Hognosticating, but I have always put an asterisk by his championship, because I know that I should have been co-champion along with him.

On to this year's Hognosticating:
Seems I will never learn my lesson. Yesterday morning I changed my pick of Atlanta to New Orleans. From the Redskins' Room at the bar (Taco Mac at Lindbergh Center, for those in Atlanta) I listened to the cheers of Falcons fans each time they came back to tighten the score. I got home just in time to watch them kick the game winning FG in OT. smh

Yes, I see and understand. I would have changed my pick
from BUC to CAR thinking all the CAR players would know they had to step up while all the BUC players relaxed slightly.
Also, we are all in the same boat.
I'll check the poll results.
PS - The original post in this thread emphasizes the lock time with this quote:
Five Minutes Before Days First Game - Games for each day will lock five minutes before the scheduled start of the day's first game. For example, if there is a Thursday night game and a member did not make a selection, they would still be able to make selections for the remaining games. Please note - pool member's selections will only be displayed in the "View All" picks section for games that have locked.
and you signed up without saying anything until Sunday morning.
Whaddup wit dat?

I think you should amend your poll choices as follows:
1) Leave it as it is, i.e., picks lock 5 minutes before first game of the day.
2) Picks lock 5 minutes before each kickoff.
Then, in the post, put this:
1)
Five Minutes Before Days First Game - Games for each day will lock five minutes before the scheduled start of the day's first game. For example, if there is a Thursday night game and a member did not make a selection, they would still be able to make selections for the remaining games.
2)
Five Minutes Before Each Game - Games will lock five minutes before the scheduled start of each specific game.
I actually prefer 2) but, as commish, I know a lot of guys have to carve out 15 minutes to make their picks mid-week and don't have time to go back in repeatedly after scouring the interwebs, etc. for last minute info. I'm trying to give the busy "working man" equal footing.

Um, the amount of belly aching in this thread is really quite astounding.

I could wax poetic about individual gripes, but instead i will stick to what I came here for in the first place, which was to try and help DarthMonk out because I appreciate his efforts greatly.
So... couple of things...
1) DarthMonk - should you choose to accept, I am making you a staff member as of immediately. If you choose to accept, I'm not looking for you to moderate or do anything other than what you're already doing - running the pool. Let me know.
2) You guys aren't obliged to, but what if for Hognostications, one of you posted a blog each week (like we used to), and then you can use the comments box underneath to have your back and forth smack? If you do it that way, you don't have to worry about threads getting 50 pages long etc etc. Some of you may have to wait for your initial comment to be approved until I okay the accounts (if they're new), but it would be a nice way to keep it all separate, and specific to the pool.
3) If we did it that way, then we would be able to put all the blogs in the Hognostications category, and I could put a separate dropdown menu item for Hognostications Blogs in the blogs button on the main page, so that you always had one touch access to the information.
4) I'm working on a little something to maybe "reward" the winners - don't know about weekly - but maybe we will do something for the end of the year - I think we have to start at least giving a t-shirt to the winner or something - but I will work on something a little more sexy.
I am looking for help in a couple of other areas, but I will make a post about that soon. But if you are so inclined, or have any ideas or inspirations, hit me up by private message and let me know.
My time is limited, my burgundy and gold love is not. Peace.
Check back later. Sound off with thoughts. DM, let me know if there's anything I can do to help. How many players did you end up with?

Some people have multiple accounts. Among those, I am deleting (gonna try anyway) the ones that were not used to make picks.
PS - Not changing lock time yet as there has been minimal response to the poll. As I said before, I actually agree with ACW in principle but made the choice I did to create the most equal footing for the most players. If response stays minimal, I will keep the current setting THIS year.
PPS - SJ is in and had 5 points since the worst picker had 6.
