NikiH had good point to ask why it's taken him so long to realize that he didn't agree to all this? shut up lavar!

I believe it was NikiH who raised another good point. Lavar appeared in super bowl commercials last year to promote NFL Marketing and Merchandise right after he settled with the NFLPA. I still like the guy a lot as well but you have to question who is guiding him through the business aspects of his life. This is the second time this offseason that off the field news has come out of Lavar's corner. As Mike Wilbon stated today in the Chat House, his agents are more to blame than the Redskins or himself for any of this offseason nonsense. He needs to either start taking advise from other sources or completely change agents b/c what's coming out of his mouth is making him look like an idiot.

Come on Lavar - you're going to be a great player and seem like a good person - get it together man!

if you're thinking of the 'tomorrow' commercials, that was for the nfl network, not for merchandise.

so I don't expect a guy who did not finish college to know either. I think LaVar needs to go back to Penn St. and take a public speaking and contract law class before he continues to alienate fans with his immature remarks and childish rants.

Maybe he needs a nice piece of stinky cheese. A ghastly, pungent, stinky piece of cheese to go with that WHINE! :-#

Your right... I'm 27, and I never finished college.... so I must not know anything

I can't believe one of the only guys to bring any excitement to this team in the past 4 years.... you guys are ragging on for something thats happening off the field...

Not to offend, but you guys are telling Lavar to shut up and stop whinning.... but it sounds like you guys are whinning because he doesn't want to put his face/name on everything assoiciated with the NFL... :hmm:

I mean it says he only gets a 6 percent cut on the WHOLESALE price... not the Retail price... so that means when they buy those jersey's for $20-30 and then sell them to you the consumer for $79.99.... he's only making about $1.80 on that jersey.

maybe that $1.80 in his pocket, but he benefits in other ways. the nflpa has a killer retirement package, post-football career counseling, injury pay, etc. some of that cashola from the shirt & video game sales goes towards those as well. sure, there are people who are making bundles of money from his name. but it's not like he's getting screwed.

if you want to take it a step further, one could argue that the sale of shirts, video games, etc. increases the number of viewers who watch football. that means higher ratings, which means more money from sponsers to advertise during games, which means networks are willing to bid more money to broadcast the nfl. that inturn means a higher salary cap, which means, you guessed it, higher salaries for the players (including lavar). it's a long line of 'which means', but i think it's a straight line.

well maybe having his face and name plastered on everything is not worth the money to him..... did anybody think of that?

i would agree with him. the nfl wanted me to sign a lucrative endorsement deal, but i turned them down. plus, 'joebagadonuts' is difficult to fit on the back of a jersey :-)

my point was simply that i don't think lavar is a financial victim here. which would lead one to believe that, as you suggest btp, it's more about values than money to lavar.

i don't think anyone is questioning his on field ability, most just feel that he's been acting like a jackA this offseason. and if lavar was right here i'd tell him to shut his mouth

It has nothing to do with merchandise to me. It has to do with off the field news that takes away from the team. He is a key player for our franchise. A locker room and on the field leader - this will carry over if it's not settled. I am solely concerned with the team winning and when one of its leaders is unhappy then it will trickle down unless something is done about it.

I'm a major fan of Lavar on the field. I just think he needs to start getting guidence from other sources b/c his agents are not helping him.

if you're thinking of the 'tomorrow' commercials, that was for the nfl network, not for merchandise.

If it is the same commercial the network is owned by the NFL, no? Therefore that commercial was not only to market the NFL Network but also the NFL as a league. If I can find it, there was an article right before the super bowl about Lavar appearing in the commercial as a result of his recent settlement with the NFLPA. The article indicated that Lavar as soon as Lavar agreed with the NFLPA, he agreed to appear in the commercial since they had the right to market him as a player.

i would agree. it would seem that his advertising for the nfl in any way could be construed as hypocracy.

Right, I wasn't saying that players were getting screwed by the NFLPA... I just think he said the 6%, plus all those incentives you added.... just isn't worth his values....

It's not like the dude is going out and doing Nike, Arm & Hammer, or Gatorade Commercials on the side... i really think he values his name and his image... He's always stated that he wants to be with one team, and not tossed from team to team like so many other money grubbing players around the league... I think the game and winning is more important to him than him being recoginized on a video game.... yes he hasn't had the greatest PR offseason... I don't think fans should be turning on him so quickly....

And he said that he likes to see us wearing his jersey, but maybe he doesn't want his face and name thrown all over trading cards, video games, and posters... and anything else the NFLPA helps market, I don't think you can specify where they put your name when you check that little box.... I mean you got to give the guy a little respect for respecting himself and his name....

Plus, Lavar has gone through a carousel of coachs, players, positions.... and every year ends with his team not progressing..... and HE STILL WANTS TO STAY HERE?!?!?!? I could name 100 players right now that would jump ship already...

The guys full of character... and class..... and so what if i can't grab his jersey..... or play him in a video game.... I thought that when he's on that field, that was the reason we loved him being on this team?

$1.80 x 100,000 (jersey's), I'll take it for doing nothing! Obviously that's not accurate but he's going to make extra money that he doesn't even need. I'm 25, if I had the chance to have my name on a jersey or be in a video game AND I just signed that contract, I would pay them money! I can name 1000 players that would LOVE to jump on Ship and would keep there mouths shut. This is BS! Grow Up Lavar!

He did repeat alot of what the others where saying, but I think he did ad stuff at times.

The others are in that business though.. of sports news/broadcasting... Lavar is not.... he's just a viewer, like you or I..... So he just gave the opinion you or I would have given... of course he's not gonna sound as professional as the others around him who are in the business.... but I don't think, it hurt his image.

Guess I will buy his jersey tomorrow. I just wrote him a nasty-gram asking him "why is he being so petty, with linbackers like Ray Lewis and Derrick Brooks not giving a damn?"

He is starting to get on my nerves and this is not the type of crap Joe need to worry about from one of his "Star players."

don't do it redskincity! I think that's exactly what he wants you to do. If he doesn't get his money one way, he'll just get it another, even if that means screwing us fans. I am so sick of this crap. I don't remember Champ whining about every little thing. He just wanted to be paid and had an agent that could get the job done effectively without "confusion."

Ok wait a sec. Don't jump on Bailey here. In my opinion the crap Arrington is pulling is 10 times worse then anything Champ Bailey ever did. Lavar signed this contract, like it or not a contract with your signature on it, binds you to the terms. Champ never tried to weasle his way out of anything.
My other issue is this, was it not Lavar in those cheesy McDonald's commercials' last year?? I think it was. Funny how making a penny was fine when it came to big macs but forget his fans being able to support him by wearing his number. Hailskins I think you are right, Crack it is!
