Can't help but think your response would have been different if it had been the Braves who had gotten the broom.

Probably not.
Especially since I wasn't even aware that they played each other until i saw your and LPJ's messages pop up as new entries today, then went and looked online to figure out what in the hell you were talking about.
I actually hate baseball. Any trash talking from me re: baseball is done for the love of trash talking in and of itself.

Which is why I'm talking trash now. The Braves will probably be the ones trailing come September.

The Nationals placed third baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring and called up top prospect Anthony Rendon to take his roster spot, a temporary swap of their franchise pillar for the 22-year-old who may one day replace him.

Bryce Harper is wall-shy, after his collision last week.

The Nats look stronger, even without Harper...who I expect to return in about a month.
- Relief pitching is better just losing HRod and Duke
- Kroll is superb. Ababd is OK.
- Soriano's expression looks like his "war face"...an Army term I learned from my son, who is a big teddy bear underneath it. However, BCT taught him to put on this war face when necessary, and he can look ferocious. Soriano's expression reminds me of Cordero, who pitched his last inning with an 80 mph fastball and an attitude that seemed to intimidate he hitters.
- Lineup is settling in. Lombo 2-for-4 tonight. Rendon even better.
- I hear the DC FAN mid-day guys repeat: "The Nats suck. They suck. Nothing but suckitude". No content. "Have to win 100 of their next 200 games to finsih with 105 wins" blah blah.
No team plays 162 games at once. Just win the next game. Zimmermann was not bad, and Strasburg pitches tomorrow. Haren? Maybe they give him plane tickets to Anchorage in the next road-trip.

This certainly bites the wang:
Entering Thursday’s game, Strasburg was ranked last in the MLB in run support with just 2.7 runs per start.

The only ML team with fewer runs per game is Miami.
The only NL team with fewer total bases per game is Miami.
We make 7 errors every 10 games. Baltimore makes 3.
By ERA we have the 7th best staff in MLB but we can't hit and we can't field.

Did it!
The wild card is almost definitely out of the question. Thus, the key games are the 9 against ATL and the 9 against PHI. Going 7-2 against ATL would give us a real shot. To win these we must play sound baseball. Fingers crossed.

Hard to predict this team. We went to the Satirday night, Sunday day games last week...Saturday saw the Nats get runners on third three time with less than two outs...saw a bases loaded strikeout by Hairston, another by Harper. Sellout crowd seemed to lose all energy. Extra innings, and the Nats lost.
On Sunday, Zimmermann started and got bombed. First time I have ever left a Senators (as I call 'em) game before the final out.
Weird.
(I did get to show off my geographic memory by finding my way to North Capitol Street, Michigan Avenue, past Catholic U, over the "new" bridge over the B&) tracks , past Turkey Thicket, past Bunker Hill Elementary...which looks solid and inviting up on its hill, just as it was when CT and I went there (with a third wing...I went to kindergarten in what was the "new" wing in the olden dayes), down Ager Road, out 23rd Avenue in Lewisdale, University Blvd, just beside the world-famous Tick Tock, and so on.)

Yes, indeed. Partly to see Northest , which was my area, and to see the edge of PG County that borders Northeast.
Amazing to see that Old Soldiers Home has become a planned community, but the water treatment plant (?) still exists at North Capitol and Michigan Avenue. Nice to see all the green along Michigan Av between Turkey Thicket and Avondale. Shopping center is still there...had the liqour store where we bought Reingold "chug-a-mug" six-packs, since the drinking age in DC was 18 for beer and wine.
And the Tick Tock hasn't changed!
