And per Mikey Shan, Kirk ain't going nowhere. He stays in DC.
“Trade him?” Coach Mike Shanahan told me recently, with surprise evident in his voice. “It doesn’t happen very often where you’ve got a chance to have a very special player that you [draft in the fourth round]. When you’re trying to build what we are with your football team, those aren’t the type of guys you trade.”

I don't agree with that. We already have a great rookie QB and Kirk is definitely starting material. We could trade him away for a great player at a different position who will actually be a starter. I think it would have been a good idea to keep him if the whole RG3 thing didn't work out, but now that we know RG3 is going to be our long term guy, we have know need for Kirk anymore. I think we could upgrade our team greatly if we traded him away.

Remember MN..........we play HC on the sofa.
Shanny has had a LONG RUN in the NFL, so he might know a thing or two.

I know, he is probably right. If I was a head coach I would probably say the same thing. Just giving my take on what I think with my small amount of knowledge I have about this team.I grew up a vikings fan and haven't been exposed to this team to much. I pretty much came on this board to give you guys a minnesotans point of view on this team.

ANYTHING that Mike says is probably not quite a lie but 'calculated' to give the least amount of information about what he really means
this guy's a protege and good friend of Bill Belicheat ...
I'd love it if Cousins were able to be our back up QB for a while but i think he's to valuable to keep ...

This is the issue. If a team were to offer first round value for Cousins... he's gone. I don't see that happening... so Cousins will be with the Redskins into training camp, at least. The rookie quarterback crop for next year looks a bit thin... so, Cousins' value will likely go up at that time.
I won't be surprized to see a trade... but, I also won't be surprized to see him backing up RG3 next year, either.

Respectfully, this is just silly.
1) We're talking about the quarterback position, not depth at running back or linebacker or something.
and
2) We are 1st place in the NFC east with a shot to make the playoffs because our backup QB came in off the bench to beat Baltimore and filled in for our injured starter to beat Cleveland. How in the world can anybody say we "don't need Kirk anymore"?
I don't see how we can be so dismissive of this. Somebody should go ask the Chicago Bears how important that #2 QB is.

Has everyone forgotten the great drop-off in skill from Shane Matthews to Danny Wuerffel??
(or was it the other way around??)

+1.
Kirk should be here for no less than 3 years.

I don't see a trade this year. If we get a first rounder, then sure, we take it. But we seriously need a quality backup a QB who plays the game RG3 does. I hope we don't take less. And like you I don't see us getting a #1 this year.
