Personally I would have a good dose of nickel packages for this game. This would mean Rak and Kerrigan lining up as DEs. I would have Fletch and Chris wilson as the two middle Lbs. Chris Wilson would be chipping Graham and blitzing most of the time to utilize his rushing skills. Fletcher would mostly be in coverage and blitz the middle from time to time.

So that would be a strategy of using 5 guys rushing the QB most of the time with six in coverage. So Rak and Kerrigan lining up as DEs Cofield, Carriker, Bowen and Jenkins rotating at DT for just this game. With Chris Wilson rushing the QB as the second ILB even though he is an OLB. Thats ok though. Even against the Run I think our front can hold up well in a nickel package for most of the game.

Perry Riley will be the other ILB on most snaps.

Yeah I know. I still would rather put in Wilson for his pass rushing skills. I like Riley but I dont know if he could cover a guy like Graham or rush the passer. Which is why I would opt the have Chris Wilson and use him primarily to disrupt the backfield full time.

Doughty troubles me because of the offense we're playing. His coverage skills are his biggest liability. Well, that and not being athletic enough to make up for his lack of coverage skills. Rumor is that Drew Brees is really good at throwing to receivers.

;furious;

Doughty is a strong safety. His responsibilities are mainly run support. I'm not that concerned about him. Free safety on the other hand...

I know. And I'm not worried at all about him in that capacity, but there is no way the saints don't specifically target him the moment he has to cover. That's when I'm worried. If its only 3 times, that's 3 potential TDs!

I get what you're saying but Daughty is a much better coverage guy than most give him credit for. He is physically limited, but has very solid coverage skills.

Other than Graham, the Saints don't have another elite receiver. Colston is good, but he certainly isn't special. The rest of the receivers are just guys. Sproles causes match up problem, but he will probably be covered by a LB.

I agree Daughty is always around the ball if he's in coverage, he doesn't always make the play but he is there. Colston missed practice again yesterday

We just picked up Butler from AZ. Maybe he can "cover" as SS for a little bit.

Butler says ankle is 100 percent healed

After getting released by the Cardinals on Friday, Crezdon Butler did not remain unemployed long.

The Redskins claimed him off waivers Saturday, giving the team five cornerbacks and Butler the second chance he had been seeking.

Drafted out of Clemson in the fifth round by Pittsburgh in 2010, Butler played sparingly in four games his rookie season. He was waived by the Steelers the following preseason and claimed by Arizona a few days later.

Butler, however, appeared in only one regular season game with the Cardinals before a gruesome ankle suffered in practice cut his season short.

“I need my speed, and that was the first thing that went when I broke my ankle,” Butler said. “Sometimes it gets a little bit sore after practice, which is normal any time you break a bone. But once I’m loose, it’s loose. It’s 100-percent healed.”

Well, I have Jimmy Graham in my fantasy league so... Reed covering him is a double edged sword for me. LOLOL

Reed is garbage in coverage, it is what it is. Sure, he's in the right place but he lacks the athleticism to act on it. lol

No doubt we are in trouble at safety this year. And what if one of our now-starters gets hurt?

The Giants were short on healthy, capable defenders yesterday, and it showed.

I can't wait for our offense to pick up, so that someday we're capable of beating another team in a shootout. I'm sick of seeing: "One of our defensive starters is out? DOOOOOOOM!!!"

Aren't the Saints missing like four starters from the suspension? People (not you guys specifically, but people generally) act like we're the only team out there missing an injured guy or with questions on the o-line or whatever. I want to see our guys go out there and just get it done this weekend, not make excuses. HTTR!

Depends on if the judge issues an injunction or not.

Saints fan here. I promise I come in peace...

But no, the Saints aren't missing 4 starters. They aren't even missing 4 players. They are missing one: Will Smith at DE. He is a good but not great player. I've never been high on him, and our backups aren't that much of a drop off as he isn't an elite player.

Vilma wasn't even the starter this year: that would be Curtis Lofton who we got in FA. David Hawthorne, who we also acquired in FA, could also backup at MLB. Vilma was a non-factor last year and is not the same player. His absence has no impact on this team whatsoever, contrary to the ridiculously clueless national media's assertions.

The other players suspended don't even play for the Saints any more.

The only appreciable penalty from Pay for Performance Gate was Payton for a whole year.

Good luck on Sunday, hope its a great game.

Saints on Defense were ranked 24th in Yards and 20th in Scoring in 2011. They could not get pressure on the QB (understatement, it was anemic) and had a very hard time getting off the field on 3rd down as a result. Still finished 13-3.

This year's Defense is "better" on paper. Much better players in a lot of areas. Much better DC, imo.

But paper never means anything once the bullets start flying. We'll see.

An improvement in DC I can't agree with.. especially his first year.

I'll admit I thought more D players were going to miss a few games at least.

Vilma may or may not be good, but he's probably the first name the comes to mind when the Saints D is mentioned.

I think the game should be pretty good.. obviously we need some sparks on O and some stops on D... Like any team/game

Yeah, the media has pumped up the so-called bounty thing into something cataclysmic, which it isn't.

The Saints only had two current players suspended: Will Smith and Vilma. Vilma was injured for almost the entire year last year and the Saints went 13-3. When he came back he was ineffective. He's still hurt actually and if his suspension was overturned, he would go on the PUP. They brought in Curtis Lofton to replace him, who is a better player at this point in their careers. They also brought in David Hawthorne to play SAM or WILL (he played MLB for the Seahawks last year and had over 100 tackles).

Fujita and Hargrove were also suspended but neither have played for the Saints in a few years.

The only appreciable loss is obviously Sean Payton. We'll see how big a loss it is...they are following his detailed system, its an experienced, great coaching staff, and Carmichael is an excellent, excellent play-caller. I think they can weather the loss of Payton for a year and still win the division and make a playoff run. If it was more than one year, well...that would be a massive problem (more so).

As for the Skins., I'm worried about playing RG3 in his first game...I really don't know what to expect there. The Saints have a long history of getting completely owned by athletic QBs in their first start (outside of 2009, where they ate young QBs alive, almost as if there was some kind of incentive to do so...).

Gomes has been practicing with first team and Wilson is probable and practiced with stomach injury.
