Hightower.

I voted for Hightower, because he is the veteran. Morris gets the most carries, though.

Well, the first premise is all 4 rb's will make the 53, and be available for the first game.

I would think if everything was equal, and all were ready to go, shanny would go with tht first. Just a gut feeling there based on who i percieve the coaches think may be the better all around back between the 4.

However, royster, tht and helu all have some type of injury that they r striving to recover from. That would leave morris as the lone uninjured rb....and so morris is who i selected to start. However i wouldn't shed to many tears if royster or helu started the first game....

I go with Morris, against NO i want to send the ball straight up the middle, no juking, no end around, no finesse, i don't care what NO puts up for defense i will run over them. Morris will do exactly that, he goes straight. This is a statement of dominance.
Then you rotate helu in and ht in 3rd down, mabe banks on a reverse but it'll all begin with morris busting them in the chops.

I don't understand the liking for Hightower here. He's shown very little. Has he had a good game? When? I say this in spite of the fact he and I played at the same University, so I'm naturally inclined to support him.

I am with you on Hightower. But is seems as if the FO likes what he brings to the table. I am still open minded WRT him, as he came in here last season without pre season to work with the team, and defenses were basically lining up to stop our running attack and make Rex (or Beck) beat them through the air....we saw the result of that.

That said, I still think he will be the starter IF both he and Shanny think he is healthy enough to go. I just don't think a RB can come back so quickly from ACL tear and be effective/back to where he was prior to the ACL tear. Feel same way about AP up in Minn.

I guess Hightower won't be the starter.

But before everyone jumps onboard and wants him to be the starter let's take a look at facts.
Yes he put up 107 yards on 14 carries on a pretty weak Colts D.
But, he also put up only 54 yards on 15 carries and 34 on 10 carries vs the stingy Ds of Buffalo and Chicago- so he's far from being the savior here.
Also I wouldn't want to put that kind of pressure on a rookie to help our investment at qb..
I wouldn't mind seeing him but not starting, at least until mid season like helu last year.
Yes that's 5 ypc, but mostly against a turrable colts D transitioning to a new D under a new coach.. I'm not sold, Yet!
THANK YOU. I like Alfred Morris too, and I'm glad he made the team. But he still has a lot to prove.

Anybody remember Marcus Mason killing it in preseason?

Yeah, so I guess I take back my hightower vote. Switch it to Morris, I guess.

I really don't think it matters who actually "starts", because I think all three running backs will see plenty of carries this season. Now that Hightower's cut I think he can be removed from the list of potential starters though...

I read a rumor that we were interested in getting him, didn't know if it was etched in stone or just the rumor mill spinning.

Now that Hightower has dropped out of the race, I want to throw my support to the new kid in town - Alfred Morris.

Start with Helu, finish with Morris.

Or the other way around, either way I like these two backs for sure.

I agree with ATX on this one with the other way around. Start with the bruiser and pound them. When they gear up for the pounding his them with some speed.

One thing that also figures into who starts is the match up. Which style of back fits best agains N.O.'s D? Last year, Spags was with the Rams. It was Torain, the bigger back who had the "hot hand." Royster's vision might also prove to be the better asset against Spag's D. (Granted - this not a scientific eval. Lots of variables come into play, but as a fan, I don't have access to those variables).

But then again, I just gave Hogster some ammo here. In the Rams game, Shanny started with the small backs and then changed the pace with the bigger back.

For a game last year (I believe San Fran), Hightower was the announced starter and ran through the tunnel, but Helu actually got the start, so Shanny does understand the symbolic meaning of "starting." This would be the main reason that I am still sticking with Morris because he earned the start in preseason.

I'm kind of old school. So, I like Helu early for his explosiveness. Get a big lead. Then grind the clock out with the power back who can punish & tire out the defense.

The thing about Helu to me is that he seems more of a complete back. He's got more quickness & speed, and he is more fluid catching the ball out of the backfield.

Royster is more of a steady, vision type back--he's adequate and efficient. But, doesn't offer much in the passing game.

Either way, these guys can all be successful in this system.

Wouldn't "old school" be more starting with the power back?

Also, did we re-sign Hightower? I thought we cut him.

No objection to your choice of Helu though. I voted Royster, but I could see it either way. I doubt Morris starts game one, but I could see him start at some point this season.

I haven't watched too much of these guys in the pre season but which one do you guys think is the best in pass blocking?

Morris started out bad in the Bears game, but the beat writers say that he has improved. Based on experience, I would give the edge to Royster based on what I read from beat writers, but I have seen nothing stating that one is better than the other in pass blocking. I think that we have all read that Morris has publicly said that he loves pass blocking and it has been noted that he was good in college.

Helu was pretty good last year, but I remember Hogs Haven showing demonstrating how he missed blocks in the Buffalo game. He hasn't played much for the writers two comment on his blocking.

In other words, we don't have much to go on.

Evan Royster is listed first on Redskins' depth chart at RB, for whatever that's worth. Helu second, Morris third
