(In my Obama voice) Listen, you can check my record. I have trademarked the name "Bobblehead Banks". He looks like a bobblehead and as long as I think it's funny, it's inevitably hilarious.

I have always been critical of kick returners. They have to really impress me. If Banks returns 2 to 3 this year in the REGULAR season and with no penalties I may change my opinion. I got a lot of flack for not wanting to keep Rock back there a few years ago despite the fact the dude didn't have enough speed to take it to the house. Well, he got the axe. I liked Cooley when he was here and he was exciting to watch a few years ago as well. I call it how I see it though and look what happened. There were even members (CLL) who wanted Cooley to make the team just to piss off irrational (?) members... Why? Why is what I am saying irrational? I already said I feel Banks will make the team. I know what he can do, and he is very solid at returning kicks. I do worry about him fumbling or botching the initial catch because he has a habit of that, but his upside is there. I personally do not like the guy because of his "oh man, I almost took it to the house" mannerisms after everytime he gets tripped up by the first tackler. I called for two players to be cut this year, Cooley and Hankerson. Hankerson sucks flat out. Briscoe should be either the #2 or #4 (Santana being the slot at #3. Fred Davis, Logan Paulsen and Niles Paul are all CURRENTLY better than Cooley. As loyal as he has been to the Redskins and especially the fans he does not fit into the big picture here. Did the organization do him dirty? possibly, and probably. Don't think this guy is going on to struggle though. He has great rapport (sp?) with the fans and fans of the NFL in general. He will go on to be just fine with his millions of dollars and promising broadcasting future. At no point will anybody be seeing Cooley with a salvation army bucket asking rush hour traffic for change (do they do that in NOVA?).

My feeling towards this team is "best man for the job". I love this team and Cooley was not the best man for the job. No one player is bigger than the team. This could very well be based on my job in particular. If you do not perform, than you are fired. My company is not loyal to me nor do they favor my loyalty over performance. I am cold hearted, up and down. Sean Taylor was my favorite Redskin, his attitude was nothing short of amazing. However, if he were to lose a couple steps and no longer be the player we expected I wouldn't shed a tear if he had left.

I love how this team is evolving, getting faster and younger! I trust the coaches and the front office.

Gano, Gano should be a non issue for fans. The guy has done nothing to rate or retain his spot.

I'm not a big Gano fan, but he was getting better each year, and kicked the longest FG in team history. Two reasons he might have retained his spot.

So he had a big inaccurate leg and in 5 years he would eventually be a good kicker. Two reasons to cut him.

Cundiff, the guy we replaced him with was on a playoff team last year and although he DID miss a big kick (A HUGE KICK), he's used to a winning atmosphere. Something I expect he will revisit with this team soon.

Shanahan says Brandon Banks made the team as a football player and playmaker, not only as a receiver or returner. "He helps you win games."

As a receiver? When you think inside the box, receivers run routes and get separation, but Shanny thinks outside the box with Banks - a weapon from the receiver postion - expect to see the unexpected. C'mon, who saw that end around TD pass from Banks coming? Playmaker - that's what he is.

Brandon Banks: “He’s done a good job throughout training camp. He proved that he can play at the wide receiver position. And the one thing about Brandon, he can make plays. Like we ran him around on a reverse and not many people can make a corner miss like that and get a forty-something yard gain. And if you have to put him in the backfield, you can run him as a tailback because he has such great quickness. He’s a guy that’s a playmaker, and he’s proved that since he’s been here. And we’re going to find ways to get him the football.”

If Banks made it as a returner or all-around playmaker: “Now remember, as a punt returner or a kickoff returner, you don’t have to punt to a returner. With these kicks from the 35-yard line, they don’t get a whole lot of reps. So if a guy’s going to make your football team, he’s going to make your football team because he’s a playmaker. And like I said, if he’s a wide receiver and if he’s catching a bubble screen or a reverse, he’s got a chance to make plays. So he made our football team because he’s a football player, and I think he can add to winning games for us in the future

Here it is more clear- Banks had to make the team AT the wide receiver position. Shanny was quoted as saying AS a wide receiver. These are the deceptive ways of Shanny. You have to look at his actions along with his words (and do look at his words carefully)

They'd all be covering kicks if they would even be active for games. And if that's all they'd be doing then why is it ok to say the kick returner's position has been devalued because of the KO rule but nobody really mentions the kick coverage people. same should apply to them as well.

I didn't want Banks on the roster last season, mostly for the same or a combination of the reasons given by those that didn't want him this year.

I change my mind about him (more than once) being on the roster at some point doing this training camp as my final 53 predictions will show. Banks really didn't do much to change my mind, looked at reasons others gave for him making the team.

In the end it came down to a few things...

1. The new kick off rules had absolutely no effect on Banks as a punt returner

2. Most anti-Banks augments (mine included) points out Banks lack of production at WR as a reason he shouldn't take up a roster spot... it was generally met with a Devin Hester comparison, that mostly held little weight for me until a kid on the beach made the same comparison but pointed out Hester when to his first Pro Bowl while playing DB for the Bears. The following year Lovie (a defensive minded coach) said Hester was a return man that would more than likely be able to contribute more to the team on the offensive side of the ball than as a CB. Prior to that statement Hester had played two (at the most) downs as a WR.

A team needs the best it can get at every position. Banks is the best return, kickoff guy. Special teams can make a huge difference. In years past the dynasties all had every facet of the game covered for the most part. We are still building so it makes no sense to get rid of Banks unless you can find someone better or equal.

Actually, if you consider Bank's two half games at WR only and forget about ST performances, you come up with pretty good WR stats, enough to make the team, as Shanny says. In the first game, he beat his defender deep (badly) and failed to score only because of a bad pass. In the second game as WR, he caught a 40+ yard pass to set up a score, and ran a reverse for 40+plus more to set up a second score. In Shanny's eyes: Banks as WR = three scores in less than two games. If all of our first team receivers do as well in the regular season, we'll be in the playoffs. Some of you guys should pinch yourselves awake when it comes to Mr. Banks.

Banks' Position is Playmaker

After four preseason games, though, Banks claimed one of the 53 jobs at a position not listed on the roster: Playmaker ...

“He can make plays,” Shanahan said. "We ran him around on a reverse [against the Buccaneers] and not many people can make a cornerback miss like that and get a [43] yard game.”

“He’s a playmaker,” the coach added. “He’s proved that since he’s been here, and we’re going to find ways to get him the football." ...

“If a guy’s going to make your football team, he’s going to make your football team because he’s a playmaker,” Shanahan said. “And like I said, if he’s a wide receiver and he’s catching a bubble screen or a [running] a reverse, he’s got a chance to make plays.”

“So,” the coach continued, “he made our football team because he’s a football player, and I think he can add to winning games for us in the future."

That's what I have been saying.

That's what Shanny has been saying all along. Can't just look at one statement and can't add stuff like size when it has never been a factor in Shanny's eyes. Size? He lines the guy in the wildcat and now tailback.

The factors that Shanny cares about concerning Banks:
1. Protecting the football
2. Being one of the 53 that gives us the best chance to win

Your right, I just wanted to point out the main reason I think Banks makes the team. He is a threat to take it all the way everytime he touches the ball. He is that fast and shifty.

To me whatever we can get out of him as a WR on certain plays. Well that is just whip cream on the pie.

Just think if he can give the offense a starting point at the 35 yard line consistently. Well that is enough to make the team in my eyes. All the extras are great as well.
