I was wondering... They gotta have plenty of gatorade, in every make and model. So why aren't these guys slamming it?

If you wait till you're thirsty to start drinking fluids, or even just before, it's already too late. Especially if you're exerting yourself in the hot sun. Could be that these guys didn't start hydrating early enough in the day and it caught up to them.
I was a volunteer firefighter, and had to get a big head start start drinking water early in the day if we had any burn building training later on. There's no amount you can drink that will rehydrate you "on the run" once you start feeling it.
Assuming this is the case, I hope they learned their lesson.
