No, they weren't, bu they still were better than any othe rWR on our team with the exception of Garcon (they were nearly identicle to his)! So that being said, how do you just casually get rid of him?cowboykillerzRED wrote:Gaffney has never even had a 1k yard season... Hes a good number 3 but we got a better one in Morgan/Hankerson.
His stats last year are nothing amazing.
Your point is what?cowboykillerzRED wrote: He caught a lot of passes when our go to guy, Davis, was drawing defenders. And on top of that had Davis played the last four games then our leading receiver would have been a TE not Gaffney.
He was never on the practice squad in Philly, but I'm not intereseted in ancient history. All I know is each of the past three years he has posted his personal best, meaning he is improving not declining! I also know his production is nearly identicle to Garcon, so net-net we gain nothing buy signing Garcon and releasing Gaffney!cowboykillerzRED wrote: Look at his history, if hes so good why does he bounce around from team to team? I said I would let them duke it out in training camp and then choose. but J.I Holsell (sp?) just said if he had gotten hurt in training camp his entire $2.6M would have counted against the cap, that is a good reason to let him go.cowboykillerzRED wrote: Who's your five?
I was just hoping to add Garcon and Morgan to Hankerson, Moss, and Gaffney (I would have cut Moss before Gaffney). I just don't see how this helps us on the football field!

I feel like we should have kept him since he was already under contract and if he couldn't win a 1,2, or 3 job before preseason then cut him.
I wouldn't have even signed Josh Morgan. Thats pretty much his replacement right there, but I would have let some of the other youngins on the team develop like Austin and Hankerson
Does it look like this now?
1. Garcon
2. Moss
3. Morgan
4. Hankerson (I'm assuming he's probably not going to be in great football shape until season starts due to injury)
5. Armstrong
6. Paul
7. Banks

Edited:
My point was he put up decent numbers with Tanja hurt and Davis missing for games. Had they both played every game his numbers go down greatly and isn't worth the money. He was pretty much the number one receiver and put up his best numbers and didn't even break 1k. With the guys we added we are would have paid to much for a 4-6 hundred yard year and q couple Tds. We have that kind of performance on the bench IMO.
Yes he was signed by Philly nd released befor the year started. I guess not ps but camp fodder is any better?
The main point is Garçon has his best years ahead of him and gafney had an inflated year and is on the decline.
His quote above leaves one thing to say, kick rocks *%#$!

To be fair, I don't really see anything out of order in that statement. Probably better advised to just keep quiet, but nothing unreasonable in those words.Chris Luva Luva wrote:Yea, I want this guy in our locker room. [/sarcasm]Jabbar wrote:I just heard. I just talked to Mike Shanahan. He said I was going to be making too much, and that they wanted to see what the other players can do. He said there is a chance I can come back, but he said it would be for around the minimum because I wouldn't be the starter anymore. I am not interested in going from being their leading receiver to being third-string, and having my number taken from me. That is pretty much telling me that I am not going to be making the team. Now Drew (Rosenhaus) can start talking to other teams to find me a new home.
Especially in light of what we witnessed on Twitter a while ago, lol.

Yeah... considering the recent twitter debacle, it looks like he held his tongue a bit... (or is that bit his tongue a held?)

their best receiver? the redskins dont have a best receiver. They have a bunch of non-descript, average, mediocre wide receivers.
gaffney is one of the older ones.
do u think really think there's a difference in winning/losing with Jabar Friggin Gaffney on or off the roster? Dude, take Gaffney OFF your personal pedastal.
If people OUTSIDE of this website were ranking the 50 (fifty!) top receivers in the game, I would guess that Gaffney would not even register on that list.
To me, Gaffney is the epitome of the Washington Redskins. He's average at everything, doesnt stand out, he's NOT terrible, he's NOT bad, he's NOT good either. He's simply middle of the road. Average. Boring. Blah.
Him going or staying has no effect at all on the Redskins. He's best fit is on a team that already has good receivers and he can go in as a 3rd receiver, like for example, Dallas would be a nice fit for him, I would think. There's nothing wrong with the guy, I dont dislike him or his game. But he is what he is: plain and average.

Funny to see people getting worked up about freaking Gaffney. I almost have to agree with our local troll about him. Saying he was the best of our WRs last year isn't really saying much.
This move frees up needed money, and hopefully gives one of these other guys a chance to step in and prove himself.

Why even include that? Your post is just fine without it.riggofan wrote:Funny to see people getting worked up about freaking Gaffney. I almost have to agree with our local troll about him. Saying he was the best of our WRs last year isn't really saying much.

Let's grant for the sake of your point (ONLY) that all skins WRs are garbage. Mustn't there still be a best piece of garbage among them? Logically, a statement that the skins have no best receiver is dumb and necessarily wrong. SO, since we're discussing the impact of losing Gaffney from the Redskins roster, the universe of receivers is . . . the receivers on our roster. Their relative worth compared to other receivers on other teams is. . .riggofan wrote:Funny to see people getting worked up about freaking Gaffney. IRRELEVANT
Oh, and I think you're spot on that losing him frees up a chance for one of the other guys. My guess is Shanahan agrees with you, too.
-Santana Moss on Our QBI know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

I'm going to keep this simple. The West Coast Offense is structure for run after the catch. Gaffney was one of the worst in the NFL even with those yards.
What Gaffney did VERY well was dissect the defense and when they were in zone, he would sit right down in the open space. Problem was, he would then fall down and get no YAC (Yards after Catch).

Oh, he has the speed still or gas; he just has suspect hands. The Patriots game comes to my mind. I like him though he is a real Redskin as Joe would say.
I think cutting Gafney saves a lot more cap space than cutting Moss.skinsfan#33 wrote:No, they weren't, bu they still were better than any othe rWR on our team with the exception of Garcon (they were nearly identicle to his)! You have a point. He wasn't very good with YAC and fell down fir 184 yards. Sure that is roughly 3 yards of YAC per catch. Not very good, Garcon was almost double that.
But their overall production was still the same. In fact, Gaffney had more catches and yards than any Cowturd WR and more catches than any EGirls WR.
I'm not saying he was great, but football outsiders did rank him as the 33rd best WR last year (Gatcon was 81st). The year before Garcon was 61st and Gaffney was 44th with more YAC than Garcon.
I just think there really isn't that much of a difference between the two and would have liked to have both but se la vie!

The fact is ... Gaffney did well for us but this offense is looking a lot different and he apparently was not going to be a player
If the boys here thought that he would be a contributor this season - he'd be here - he's not = time to move on
the train is moving on ... some players that think they should be on it are going to be looking for another ride

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
