No one wants Jabar enough to trade for him, that says a lot. I thought Gaffney tanked it on John beck to get his buddy rex back out there

That's because Jabar is a 3rd or 4th WR at this point in his career. He was our best WR... He was OUR best WR. Just because he was OUR best WR, doesn't mean that he'd be anyone elses best.
Garcon, was the 3rd option in Indy. Behind Reggie Wayne, and Dallas Clark. Our BEST WR, has comparable stats to a 3rd option WR with Peyton Manning. Our BEST WR had comparable stats to Garcon with Painter throwing him the ball, no offensive line and no run game....

I agree Chris
there is no way that Gaffney is going to be available for long if another franchise thinks that he could help
Gaffney will most likely get cut BECAUSE he's not considered to be good enough by anyone
c'mon guys - this guy would not be in this position if the Redskins thought he could be a factor here - it's over

Maybe we can re-sign him after the arbitration.

If we weren't loaded at WR, I could see keeping him. He was productive and clutch for us last year. But here's a list of receivers that heavily used in this offense.
Fullback
HalfBacks
Davis

ey
Moss
Garcon
The 49er lol, can't remember his name
Hankerson
Aldrick
Mike wanted to get something in return for Gaffney. Maybe a 4th or 5th round pick to increase our odds of finding a gem after all we gave up to get the #2 pick. Gaffney screwed that up by running his mouth to the press. So nobody is gonna offer a thing, knowing we'll let him go. It was a smart move for a guy who's gonna see decreased time.
My projected 2012 starters.
WR - Garcon
WR - Hankerson
WR - Moss/Davis

I think Gaffney did well for this franchise last year
Gaffney does not figure to be a part of what these guys want on the field - we all knew that something needed to be done at WR
He's not seen as being a part of what these guys want to get done
can you imagine that? - we are looking at not needing our 'best' WR because the guys think we'll be better without him
we are going to see better production from the passing game this season

I wonder if this is a cap issue, the twitter issue, a surplus of WR issue, or a locker room issue. Probably a mixture.
IF we had the cap space, it would be good to see how camp progresses and who is most productive. A plus for Gaffney is that he knows the playbook. He did a decent job for us last year. How much better would he have been if the pieces around him were better? It's a guess, just like the 'potential' for someone who has not played in 'your' system, behind your 'QB' is often higher than the results.
I find it frustrating to see players we let leave/go from here do great elsewhere. I believe in keeping the best players, and coaching up those who have the talent to be among the best. We have had too much of a revolving door these last dozen years or so.
Shopping Gaffney around at this point in time tells me that there is probably more to this story than we are being told - usually is.
If Gaffney were to move on - I wish him well. If he were to stay, it will be interesting to see how he fares in camp.

If we cut Beck, would we be able to keep Gaffney?

The cap penalty really screws us because until it's decided they can't even decide
how to create cap. If we don't get it back, we probably want to restructure. But if we do it's hard to spend at this point so we don't want to restructure. Goodman really screwed us doing it the way he did.

we don't need players that can do well elsewhere - we ONLY need players that can do well here and make the other players here better
We don't want players that think they'll play well elsewhere we ONLY want players that want to play well here AND make the other players here better
bye bye
I cannot understand why so many fans think that players abilities or talents are the same no matter where they play
THIS IS A TEAM GAME PEOPLE - sometimes players need to be with other players that help them be better
There is NO WAY this franchise should keep players UNLESS they know they fit what the coaches want to do
Gaffney apparently does NOT
Be great if another franchise wants to trade for him - I DOUBT IT

he's being traded or released because he's not that good....he's just "another guy" playing wr in the NFL. you could name 20 wide receivers easily that you'd rather have than him.
and the redskins replaced the average gaffney with a pair of average, younger receivers. they have like 34 average to nobody wide receivers..they don't need a 35th.

Might want to check your math there Jeremy. You just said he'd be the best receiver on over a third of the teams in the NFL and the second best on the rest. That's actually a good receiver.

Men who can't figure out that gaffney is a third wide receiver and thus should be compared only to other #3 WRs are just dense. They are in fact blind for the sake of being blind.
Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with.

According to Pods, Gaffney is one of if not the best #2 receiver in the league. Jeremy's obviously a big fan of Gaffney.

Mike Shanahan says Jabar Gaffney could remain with Redskins
Coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday he has not ruled out the possibility of wide receiver Jabar Gaffney remaining with the Washington Redskins.
“I can’t tell you at this time what’s going to happen,” Shanahan said at his pre-draft news conference at Redskins Park.
Gaffney said last week that he expected to be traded or released by the Redskins. But Shanahan said Wednesday it’s possible that Gaffney will stay with the Redskins to compete for playing time.
Shanahan said he gave Gaffney the option to explore opportunities with other teams after the Redskins added free agent wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan .
“I believe I owe it to him to give him a chance to look around the league and check his options,” Shanahan said.

maybe ... they did not get any offers and thought they'd back pedal
maybe ... get the other receivers to think that Gaffney might be taking a roster spot
who knows

I'm confused. I thought Shannahan was ego maniac that was only interested in making himself look like the smartest guy in the room? /sarcasm

as I've said before - I don't like the person but ....
I do like Mike Shanahan the HC
and
I do like Mike Shanahan the FO guy
this franchise is in better shape because we have one of the best HCs in the NFC East ... I know that the record is 12-20, the main reason for that is not Mike Shanahan
we are a lot better off because of Mike Shanahan
We do not have all the details about Gaffney but it would not surprise me if Mike maybe was trying to help him out and thought that there was still a chance that Gaffney might not get picked up
Gaffney helped here last season but he might find it a little more difficult to get on this roster this season

I'm not sure about this "mike is trying to do the right thing" stuff. Why is keeping Gaffney an issue of "doing the right thing" in the first place?
I'd say he's telling the world we might keep Gaffney so other teams might be willing to trade a late pick for him instead of just waiting for us to release him.
