Landry is too talented to let walk, and in the 3-4, you need a playmaker at Safety to really set your defense apart.
I say more power to him. I offer a two year deal with a small signing bonus, average base salary, roster bonuses paid based on games played, incentive laden upgrades that would increase his base salary and a very nice roster bonus in 2013. but, I do agree with your conclusion. Give him a one year, incentive laden deal that gets him back here... and then let's see what happens.
If Laron really thinks he's going to heal up, and light it up this coming season, why would he give up the leverage he'd gain if he were a true free agent next year? Rogers is going to get that payday he's been wanting this off-season because he is getting a "do over" in free agency because of a one year deal turned out to be a pro bowl year. He'll get a lot more in a long term deal now than he would have if he had signed one last off-season.

well .... yes and no - like 1niksder alluded to - Landry actually takes the 2 year deal because he thinks he's going to be able to play well and he likes it here
